Wales Online are reporting that both Swansea City and Newcastle are in a race to sign Las Palmas attacking midfielder Jonathan Viera.
This is the first time we seem to have been linked with this Spanish winger/attacking midfielder player, which seems surprising since we’ve been linked with so many players already this summer.
The other club said to be interested in the player are Everton FC who seem to want to become the new Manchester City as they spend big bucks on their players this summer and have brought in lots of players in this particular transfer window.
27 year-old Las Palmas attacking midfielder Jonathan Viera
Of course, it helps when Everton can sell one player – striker Romelu Lukaku – to Manchester United for a whopping £75M as the transfer market goes crazy this summer.
Viera started his career at his home town club Las Palmas but then moved to Valencia in 2012 for two years and then Standard Liege for one year before returning to Las Palmas two years ago.
Last season in 31 La Liga games he scored 7 goals and had 8 assists.
The once capped Spanish U21 International would not come cheap with the release clause in his Las Palmas contract said to be set at €30M (about £26.3M).
If Swansea do sell their number 10 Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer they will have plenty of money to spend on a replacement and could easily afford the€30M if they want to meet the release contact in Viera’s contract.
We would be very surprised if Newcastle would be willing to pay out €30M for this player, although there is a possibility we could get Viera for less than that.
That’s always A\assuming this report is accurate and Rafa is interested in this Spanish forward, but at least he will have all the information he needs about Viera from his many Spanish contacts.
What do you think?

Yeah just wish Ashley was listening to the pundits that say we need to spend 100 million just to stay up!!
Our existing squad if fit could easily stay up in my opinion we will be hard working , physical and very organised which can get you lots of points in the premiership it might not be pretty mind you might be a few games where we sit tight and win from a set piece
The league wont be as frantic as the championship and teams wont be kicking us up and down the park so the likes of Shelvey , Perez and Richie will get more time on the ball as well so we could potentially be better to watch at times compared to last season although we did play some lovely stuff at times especially before January

Re the cricket… The internet is was full of people saying England should really go for it. I sometimes wonder if anyone understands test cricket anymore. If this collapse had happened under cooks captaincy, it would all have been his fault. To me, we play test cricket the way we play limited overs cricket, and when it doesn’t work, we panic. The correct mindset is not being coached into them in my opinion.

Comment #5Markaccus @3 – At the risk of getting my wrist slapped discussing cricket on a football blog you are spot on. We try to play test cricket like a one day game and attack from the onset. Whereas the subtlety of test cricket is to survive the new ball, wait till the bowlers tire a little and then attack.
