Rafa Benitez spoke to the media yesterday and revealed after he has talked about Jacob Murphy arriving imminently at Newcastle that he ‘s also had a long-term interest in his twin brother Josh, who is a striker at Norwich.
We noticed a number of our readers were thinking whether Rafa would also try to sign Josh as well as Jacob and Rafa says that’s possible – but not this summer.
The twin brothers are very close and both of them are good players and it will be good to have brothers at the club again, since the Ameobi brothers have now both left with Sammy moving to Bolton this summer.
22 year-old Norwich City striker Josh Murphy
This is what Rafa told the Chronicle yesterday about having an interest in Josh Murphy:
“Last year here in Ireland we were talking about his brother Josh.”
“We liked him. I was following both of them.” “I received a lot of information about both.”
“In this case we were looking for this kind of player.”
“I think we will have to wait a little bit on possibly signing Josh.”
“One of them at the moment is fine!”
Whether Newcastle will eventually sign Josh as well will depend to a very large extent on how Jacob settles in and plays for Newcastle.
If he’s a smash hit you can bet your life that Rafa will go back for Josh because he should be able to settle in quickly with his twin brother and best friend Jacob already at the club.
It’s also interesting that Rafa mentioned yesterday that we were trying to sign the players we can this summer and not necessarily the best in the Premier League.
It is obvious with being down below for a year has crimped the Newcastle financials a little.
But it’s just for one summer and as long as we can put up a good show next season in the Premier League, we should be financially sound for next summer and even in January.
Especially if Mike Ashley can get some Chinese Investment into the club over the next six months or a year – that’s really Mike’s job to support Rafa – and it will give the club a big lift.
It would be great to have the Murphy brothers both at Newcastle.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #1It could be argued that Liecester won the title with lrss than we have now. Ok, i am not expecting to win it obviously, but a strong team structure, good team spirit and a well organised system would be enough to comfortably survive. I’d be happy with that for 1 season, considering we have had nothing like that for 10 years.

Comment #3The quick turnaround of manquillo from link to medical just shows that the press have no idea who we are in for really.
The manquillo link all came from one report in Spain. Basically one guy found out.
So. When is barnetta coming in?
