Rafa – Murphy Really Wanted To Play For Newcastle – His Desire Was There

It was a good day in the transfer market yesterday for Newcastle as we had two players fly into Dublin to take their medicals and sign on the dotted line for Newcastle.

22 year-old Norwich winger Jacob Murphy and 23 year-old Atletico Madrid Javier Manquillo were both completing their medicals in a Dublin city center hospital.

Hopefully, they will be both announced as Newcastle players today.

22 year-old Jacob Murphy – a Newcastle player today

So in one day – today – we should double our signings to four players this summer, which is a lot better than just two – but we still need at least three first team players brought in at a minimum.

That’s a lot better than just two – but we still need at least three first team players brought in at a minimum.

This is what the Newcastle manager had to say about new boy Jacob Murphy yesterday in the Chronicle:

“It’s the type of player we are looking for.”

“It’s not that we are signing the top class players of the Premier League, we are signing the players we can.”

“We are signing the players that can do a job for us.”  “I am really pleased with him because he has shown character and personality.”

“His desire to play for Newcastle United was there.”

“Sometimes when you are looking for players you are wondering if they are technically good enough.”

“Or if they have pace or score goals or what they are like technically or tactically.”

“In this case is the main thing is he has pace and can score goals and pass.”

“We’ll see if he can reproduce his performances from the Championship in the Premier League.”

“But he wants to play for Newcastle United and that is a huge advantage.”

“I am sure he will be working so hard in front of our fans in every single game.”

“He’ll help the team and help competition in the team.”

Jacob should become a popular player on Tyneside if only because he was a fan of Newcastle while growing up and he really wanted to play for Newcastle and he let his agents and Norwich know that quite clearly.

It was his determination to play for Newcastle that helped the deal go through over the last couple of days.

It will be great to have Jacob on board.

The quick turnaround of manquillo from link to medical just shows that the press have no idea who we are in for really.
The manquillo link all came from one report in Spain. Basically one guy found out.
So. When is barnetta coming in?

Even in this interview Rafa is sending a message that we need quality signings ‘we will see if he can do it in the pl’

I am sure he would of rather signed players he knows can cut it.

I hope this lad can do it, he already has my vote after speaking to a lad at work (Norwich fan) and he is a childhood toon fan.

Hopefully we are still cash aplenty and are looking at two or three players already proven.

I think we will be alright even now and won’t ‘struggle’ in the premier league. We have some good players and Rafa almost kept us up with a worse squad (imo).

What would we do if we got long-term injuries to Gayle or Shelvey or Ritchie. We need players as good or better to ensure we ain’t playing players out of position when they have to come in.

We still haven’t spent a fortune and more or less the £30 million profit from sissoko has covered or close to covering these four signings.

At least Charnley has found the office pen !

Their might be PL experience in the team but it’s basically a championship team at best with a few standout players…

…those bought so far does not raise the standard as I see it…the status quo is maintained.

I had hoped Rafa had aspired to more…I wonder if any of these players were identified before the summer as targets….somehow I hardly doubt they were our first or second choice.

Lilongwe…as far as I remember I never said anything about wanting PL experience before quality…I believe I said I wanted proven quality? Feel free to correct me if I forgot to mention that.

Some people are excited about this current plan and players coming in…others are not.
