Nine Players Out And Four Players In So Far This Summer – Still A Low Net Spend

We finally got 23-year-old Javier Manquillo over the line today after there had been some delays in his signing due to some paperwork problems.

The Chronicle is estimating his fee was around £4.5M and that’s half of what Sunderland’s option to buy him was for last season while he was on loan at the Black Cats.

Of course, he didn’t play well last season on loan at Sunderland under manager David Moyes but it wouldn’t surprise us in the least if Javier plays really well for Newcastle with his Spanish compatriot Rafa Benitez coaching him.

Rafa Benitez – Newcastle manager

And Rafa is a much better manager and motivator than David Moyes will ever be – let’s tell the truth about that.

So Newcastle have now allowed 9 players to leave the club this summer with a couple of deals looking close to being completed.

A £2M transfer of 34-year-old Daryl Murphy to Nottingham Forest and a£6M transfer of 17-year-old Lewis Gibson to Everton are pending, although Spurs are still in there trying to do a deal for the teenager.

We’ve put these two latter deals down as “pending” in our table and if they go through it shows we have only spent a net of  £10.5M so far this season.

That’s not much.

And if the Chronicle estimate of £70M in cash plus whatever Rafa can get from outgoing transfers is accurate for the amount Rafa has to spend – then there’s still a lot of money to spend this summer.

I’m not surprised at our low net spend it’s how Newcastle tics
I’m not sure preparing for another season in the championship works in the premier league though.
    Time yet it suppose.

Such a varied opinion, some say midtable some say relegation battle and some even have us doomed to the outer reaches of the EFL fgs!!!

The main point here is the jigsaw is slowly but surely coming together and with a world class manager in charge it gives a big bonus and will mean we will be greater as a force than the sum of the parts, if we want top players then we need to wait until the big teams upset current stars by bringing in competition. What about rashford at man utd… Surely he can’t be happy going further down the pecking order with Lukaku and the thought of Ibrahim coming back later in the year… Problems like this will unfold throughout world football… That’s when the real business commences… as Confucius once said… Slowly slowly catchy monkey!

We’ve just been promoted and need several top quality signings just to compete.
I know there’s time yet, I just expected more but not surprised the way things are going.

We have to assume that some of the £70 million will be held back until January when Rafa will have a better idea how things are panning out. So I reckon we will spend another £40 million before the end of August. Like most, I would like a marquee striker and a strong DM to take up most of that. There’ll be a couple of other Rafa bargain specials to bring us up to 8 new imports come the end of the window!

Apart from Everton, nobody else outside the top 6 has done anything special in the window so far so I’m pretty sure we will be well safe with what we’ve got. But £40 million well spent will see us nearer the top of the rest rather than the bottom. I’d settle for that this year.

Forty points by 2nd January 2018 would be nice.
    22 games 1.8 points
His last six games in the PL Rafa averaged 2 points with games against Man City and Spurs plus Liverpool away.

Basically the squad you see now
Will be the squad Newcastle will play in the championship in the event we are relagated
Which TBH is low wages and should bounce straight back up in the event
I think you will now see up to 5 key players signed
2 centre forwards a left back and 2 centre midfielders
Players who will hold there value or double in value who can be sold at a profit in the event of relagation
Big time players I like to call them
Your wallcotts or sturridges if ya like
Players who can take us from been a very good championship squad or relagation contenders to European contenders i.e. Champions League
If we get 5 players of significant quality I think we will be able to hold our own with anyone in the division
    For example if we added
    Justin klievert and Walcott upfront
And jack wilshire with Say Jordan Henderson
    And a solid left back
    Say Robertson from hull
If we are relagated we would get at least our money back on these players in 12 months
But I think these types of players is what is needed to stay in the division
If we end up with say the likes of rolan am a shit striker
Or the crap players I have seen us linked with it’s a knocking bet we will be relagated and we will then struggle to off load these players and find our selves with another marvaux or Marcelino
    Players we can’t shift
It make total sense to me to push the boat out because
Worst case scenario we will get all the money back on players if the worst was to happen
Now am no brain scientist but can someone please explain this to fat Ashley
And tell him to get his finger out

If all the other non top 6 teams did that then you might be right but they don’t and won’t. We’ll be just fine.
