Elliot, Mbemba, Hanley, Lejeune, Mitrovic Start At Preston – Manquillo, Murphy On Bench

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has named his side for the second pre-season friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale this afternoon and Preston now have former Norwich manager Alex Neil (shown above) in charge, replacing Simon Grayson who joined Championship club Sunderland.

Here is the team as just reported on the Newcastle United Twitter account.

So there is another start for Mbemba at right back (Rafa may be trying to make a right back out of him?) and Grant Hanley is at center-back and the Scottish International is expected to leave the club this summer.

We also expect it to be all change at half time, as Rafa gives as many players a run-out as possible this afternoon including new signings Murphy and Manquillo.

Rafa will also want to keep a winning attitude with his players and even though it’s only another friendly he will still want a win this afternoon

It would be really good to win this game and start a winning streak going – even though it’s only pre-season.

Howay The Lads!!

Mitrovic scored 4 goals against Preston last season; Benitez being merciless I see.

I believe this is going to be Mitro’s season – should he be staying on.

Interesting that Hanley is getting a game. I would like to see him kept on. He is still relatively young… there’s no reason why he cannot push the others for a starting berth.

Looking at this Preston link, are we going to be able to watch it? You can’t even watch some reruns without the Premium Pass, which costs a cool £45. I’m hoping this free pass is a one off thing or we may be disappointed.

So are you saying it’s not worth signing up to PNE Ifollow thingy?
Also no Lascelles – has he recovered from his hernia op and I can’t remember if he played against Hearts?

They should’ve cashed in then and done a one off deal like Hearts did. Just like we should and charge a small fee that allows fans across the world to watch U18+23 games live, as well as friendlies. £5 a month from 200,000 fans is another million quid a month towards transfers. Anything above that even better.

martoon – It doesn’t look like it is available, click on the match preview link and it says premium subscribers can watch it. Maybe I am missing something but it doesn’t look freely available to me

bobby – The sooner they start officially streaming matches the better. Charge a low fee of a fiver a game for a perfect stream and lots of people would pay. Can’t believe that they twist on about the dodgy streams and not realise the massive market there is for watching games.

Re. Clucas: I don’t get it. He’s an improvement on Colback, no doubt about that but I can’t see replacing a backup midfielder as our top priority. Average backups is what we actually have in our squad already!

It was Lee Ryder who first claimed that there is 70m to spend in this window. If they had that in the kitty, we would have seen some proven qualities by now.
Ryder himself doesn’t have a clue.Just guessing like anyone else.
