Report – Newcastle Could Get This Championship Midfielder At A Bargain Basement Price

There’s news in the Sun today that not only is Rafa Benitez still interested in signing 26-year-old left-sided midfielder Sam Clucas from Hull City – but that Newcastle could possibly be launching a bid soon and get the Tigers’ midfielder for as low as £4M.

Previously, when we have been linked with the midfielder a transfer fee of between £8M and £12M has been talked about – so this is a really low figure.

Certainly, after Sam had one of his best seasons ever last season and in the Premier League too – he was one of Hull’s few stars in their relegation season and he would seem worth every penny of that.

26-year-old Hull midfielder Sam Clucas

The report is that Rafa is now keen to sign the midfielder especially when he could be available at a bargain basement price.

Sam is also reported to be keen to stay playing in the Premier League next season and an England cap may even be in his future after the England manager Gareth Southgate recently said that Sam was an interesting player he was keeping tabs on.

Rafa is keen to bring in a number of players this summer – as many as eight first team players – and if he’s to do that successfully with our limited transfer budget – then we need to make some bargain buys.

But the manager will also need to pay out in excess of £20M for maybe two or even three players (> £20M each) if Rafa is to have the class and experience he wants in the Newcastle squad for our reentry into the Premier League.

Clucas is a versatile player who usually plays as a left-sided midfielder but he can also play in central midfield and under the guidance of Rafa, this lad could become a much better player than he is today.

Certainly, he is motivated and has something to prove in the Premier League after he has spent most of his career in the lower leagues of England.

Let’s hope he wants to come to Newcastle – because if he does – he would seem the perfect player Rafa is searching for this summer.

Not to Rafa and Lee – go get this player and soon too!

What do you think?

Rafa better get started then if he wants 8 first team players in because he hasn’t started yet.

The list of who we might even get on loan has shrunk.

    Right now hmmm what’s left..

    I’d be looking at

    Carroll …yes I know
Don’t think we can get baysuayi however you spell it
I can see Long being a target
I like Slimani but think we are priced out of that
    Iheanacho looks Leicester bound
    Hernandez looks west ham bound
Rolando looks realistic but scarily low in stats.
    Gray …possible
King….not sure as spurs were interested but I’d want him.
    Giroud …unlikely
I’m personally hoping rafa has 4 or 5 top players lined up.

I think Rafa will do the business he wants before August ends, we always knew it would be a difficult wind given that we don’t have the spending power of the other clubs for this year, and maybe we have to deal with cheaper players to consolidate our position in the prem.

A steady mid table campaign this year will allow us to build a team for the future. and for the first time in a long time, we can look forward to a helter skelter ride in the Premiership, but without the worry of relegation.

Welshie you might want to keep your powder dry. I’m not expecting anything momentous myself but there’s always a possibility a decent signing or two could make it “over the line” any day now :). Then you’ll be sorry. It will teach you a lesson you won’t forget in a hurry. You watch. Etc.

Let me be perfectly clear. Belfast is light years ahead of you when it comes to having a good understanding and knowledge of football. You would never have identified Tom Cairney because you’re not a good judge of a player.
You constantly struggle to hold your own with hapless jesper for heavens sake. You were a great source of amusement in our car group yesterday. You going to a gym well you could sing a duet on your aan. At FF way back and buying extra large gear in club shop. Just bugger off waad yee?

Not sure about anyone else but I really like the possibility of signing clucas. Not a household name at all but as a player he is really good. I never saw him on the left as he’s played mostly cm for hull this year but would be a great upgrade on colback and provide good competition for Hayden. Great engine, good tackler, good with the ball and a decent dribbler and passer. Clever too as he is a big reason as to why Robertson has been able to get up the pitch so much. What makes it even better is his background and story of how he has arrived to the premier league. If we sign him for £4million then that’s a bargain that would improve our squad.

How about a break from slagging each other off and get back to our football club and chat about what happening there.

We are less that 3 weeks away from the start of our season back in the Premier League, and up to now our activity in the Transfer Market is less than impressive, buys appear to be castoffs from other clubs, or at best from a club in a league below where we will be playing, OK they may come good – here’s hoping. It would appear as if we have lost out on a fair few others with the same criteria.

At the end of last season, the talk was about a Transfer Kitty of £75 million or there abouts, then we had the ‘every last penny’ statement, up to now the net spend is roughly £10 million and we have Rafa trying to generate cash by sales to help in out pursuit of players.

Things are looking pretty glum because we all know that the squad is not good enough for anything other than a relegation battle in the PL, but because its RAFA in chargewe say very little or if we do its to blame Ashley or Charnley, but its Rafa that wants to get rid Mitro and Krul for example, he wants to bring in another keeper (Was going to be West Hams cast off until Boro beat us to him) now its another left back when we have 4 on the books.

If things continue as they are we may end up with a PL squad of the stipulated 25 but with another 5 or 6 getting paid to stay at home for example why should the likes of Tim Krul who lives here in the North East, is married to a local girl, has a family, up sticks and move somewhere else ust to satisfy Rafa, who has not even given him a chance.

Maybe as Stan Collymore said recently Rafa is a control freak, its his way or not at all, but we are the true fans of NUFC, and that bright horizon seems to be slipping back into the darkness. Just my thoughts at present.

We could look to bring that kid Kent from Liverpool on loan. Looks a real prospect. And since I am talking about Liverpool I would love to have Sturridge in for Riviere- now that’s an upgrade alright! He may be injury prone but beggars can’t be choosers. If I could choose I would love to see Bas Dost here too, I would sell Mitro to bring him here too. Never going to happen though. Has Chicharito already signed for West Ham? Always been a fan of his, great player and natural goalscorer, just what we need.
