Rafa Still Wants To Bring Top Players In On Loan For The Coming Season

We haven ‘t exactly had a good time of it trying to make loan deals for the coming season which would help the club make the transfer money for this summer go further and allow us to get more good players into the club.

We still expect Rafa to buy at least two players worth more than £20M each this summer – but they may not come in until later in the summer.

As usual, Rafa wants players in as quickly as possible and for good reason too – so they can get used to the way Rafa wants them to play and also to understand the way their team-mates play.

Rafa Benitez – seems happy enough

But we haven’t been too successful with loan deals for the season – not yet anyway.

We have failed to bring in Tammy Abraham who went to Swansea, Ruben Loftus-Cheek (what a name!) who went to Crystal Palace and it looks like Liverpool have blocked a loan move from Newcastle for a player Rafa rates very highly indeed – Sheyi Ojo.

But there’s news in the Chronicle today that Rafa is still hoping to get some good players in on loan from some of the top clubs – like Chelsea and Manchester City to name two of them.

Rafa apparently thought about trying to get striker Michy Batshuayi in earlier in the summer but Chelsea manager Antonio Conte still rates the striker and thinks the player can improve once he has another season of coaching at the Premier League Champions.

Antonio seems very much like Rafa Benitez in that he thinks he can improve every player in his first team squad and like Rafa – considers that part of his job.

Not a bad attitude to have when you are a coach.

So we could get a couple of good players in on loan and some players in via transfer fees that will have to exceed £20M each and we still have the money to do just that.

Edd you could easily add Zouma or Hart to that list. The truth is none of us know what is happening behind the scenes at Nufc.
regarding blowing 40 mill on two players seems a pipe dream at present, But I hope ya right pal.
Surely we could have competed with Stoke for Zouma who would have been in the starting 11, Yet we sign Lejuene who may or may not be a success .

Its been a strange and frustrating transfer window as yet

    From last post

Blofal – Rafa is known to believe in building from the back and appears to love wingers for sure but if they can play the ball into Mitro I don’t see why he wouldn’t be a fit. Perez already has pace down the flank and we have nobody else if Gayle can’t hit the net in the Prem in the way he did in Championship whereas Mitrovic (despite his temper and taking cards) has proven he can hit the net in the Prem so I can’t see why Rafa would ship Mitrovic out unless he’s got a replacement lined up and if that’s the case I hope it isn’t Rolans.

Bears remembering he did find the net last year when on the filed and that some players are better suited to the Prem than the lower leagues and I think the Serb is one of those.

“Here is a worrying statistic: if you combine the total number of top flight goals that the squad have scored in their entire careers, it does not break the 100-mark. Between them, they have 96 goals at the highest-level, and Mo Diame has the most (16). He has not scored more than four in a season either.

“After him it is Dwight Gayle on 15 (from a creditable 64 games), Ayoze Perez on 13 from 70 games for Newcastle and then Jonjo Shelvey’s 12 from midfield.

“For those who would welcome Newcastle cashing in on Aleksandar Mitrovic and spinning the transfer wheel, it’s worth remembering that his nine goals in the relegation season account for nearly 10% of the entire Premier League scoring from the Newcastle squad.” (Mark Douglas)

jazzyp – The only thing we know is going on is a search for a striker and midfield playmaker. But with a net spend of just 10.5 M I understand Ed’s anticipating at least 2 big signings. For 1 thing Ashley won’t want to go down again that would cost him again and make any potential sale of the team out of the question again. Why we haven’t made some signings, why this window’s been so awful is all speculation but my guess it not what bobby bee peddles about Rafa’s being in control of the signings and picking and choosing for reasons known only to him and more down to a number of factors including at least:

our being in the North East… some players actively don’t want to come here and will let their agents know it

institutional incompetence – face it even if Rafa clearly identified every target before the window was opened we are known for being beaten to players and failing to close the deal after negotiations begin – not Rafa’s fault but he’ll have to live with it unless management is completely overhauled

and of course that orders from on high will ask that we get the “best” deal meaning my guess being that means the cheapest of any targets on any list Rafa might produce simply because they are on his list regardless of how they might have been ranked (it’s very easy to make a half-hearted bid for a top target in order to lose so you can sign a lower rated target but say we delivered the goods Rafa).

Some combination of that would explain it and Rafa’s “frustration” because it limits what he can say in criticism.

Beginning to think that Mitro needs to stay.
There’s no doubt that he can keep defenders occupied and that allows space for those around him to exploit.
Somehow think that his physical and fearless play will be worth a good few goals as he’s one player prepared to throw his body on the line because he has the passion to do so and NUFC and Shearer are dear to his heart.
Maybe if Andy Carrol does come home then he and Mitro in rotation or even together at done point on some games will prove productive.

It’s an invested interest that has been long suffering that causes such argument on here

    Just a point on goalies.
Surely the number of goalies who Rafa is apparently interested in so far this window can’t all be the all singing all dancing, ball playing, dribbling, leaders in the changing room footballers that he seems to want in the team can they ?

Half time against Beijing and we’re winning 4-0! Got to say we’re playing some very nice football and these poor Chinese lads are getting battered. Should be five really because we had a blatant pen denied but hard to quibble.
Longstaff running the show from midfield. Dunno if he’s Sean Longstaff’s brother but he’s playing well.
Only 35mins each way, but they played last night and play tomorrow as well so fair do’s.
Very enjoyable and great credit to Dave Watson the coach. Nice to watch.

    Talking about a defeatist tone
Nufc will be near if not in the relegation area come May by that time rafa will be long gone the fans will protest to no avail and fat man will still be here organising an assault on the championship I hope I am wrong but come on a winger from the championship who most of you hadn’t heard of be truthful an ex scumberland loanee atsu who was slated on here and didn’t get picked by rafa many times and some other geezer none of you had heard of now we are looking for loan players give me a break
It’s the same old crap each year average signings who were ok in the championship but it just won’t wash in the big league
