Breaking News – Spaniard Mikel Merino About To Sign For Newcastle

The Sun is reporting that 21-year-old Spaniard Mikel Merino of Borussia Dortmund is set to sign for Newcastle United and this one is right out of the blue.

The deal is for a season long loan and the report says the Borussia Dortmund midfielder has left the Dortmund training camp in Switzerland and is traveling to Newcastle to discuss the move with manager Rafa Benitez.

In fact, he has been pictured in Newcastle so the move is probably being discussed right now with Managing Director Lee Charnley.

Merino stands 6ft 2ins tall is a holding midfielder so it looks like we will not be signing a holding midfielder permanently this summer – but don’t bank on that.

21-year-old Spaniard Mikel Merino of Borussia Dortmund discussing loan move to Newcastle
There will be an option to buy for €7M

The midfielder joined Dortmund in the summer of last year from Osasuna for €3.85M but he has been disappointed to play only 8 times last season for Dortmund and wants to play more first team football this season and he will get that at Newcastle.

Merino is also interesting two Spanish clubs in Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad who are reported ready to pay up to pay up to €10M for him.

GOAL is reporting there will be an option to buy for Newcastle –  which we think Rafa would have insisted on – and the option price is a good €7M.

This looks like it will be an excellent signing for Newcastle.

We hope this will be an excellent signing for Newcastle.

🙂

Not keen on loan deals. If there is a agreed fee after the loan that isn’t too bad, it’s a win win for us. As he is 21 he will not be part of the squad of 25, I think.

Is it a season long loan with option to buy. Or are we trying to sign him on a permanent basis. That many different stories doing the rounds!

Like I said if this holding midfielder is partnering Shelvey and we have Hayden as his competition is this the end of Wear side Jack.

It is a football blog but as I have previously said there is no need for some of the language and terms on here. Doesn’t matter what time of day as we can all catch up (,just as I am now doing).

Now looking forward to others to be pulled up such as the foul mouthed fan in Liverpool who can barely post without crudity . Won’t happen though, at least hasn’t so far. Quelle surprise!

No idea sounds a good career path though, buying from Germany is always positive

Would of preferred a more senior experienced CM alongside Shelvey though but he will be good competition for Hayden…might still get a senior player in though supposedly still after 4 after he signs so who knows

Another young unknown through the door. Sounds like Ashley,s has,nt took a back seat after all. i guess the Samars rumour was total Bullshit in that case. We need a striker, lets hope its someone with a bit pedigree.

A promising body in, I hope.

What NUFC need is for DeJong/Perez be a more aggressive #10 or bring someone in who can hop into play, not just wait for a chance to come their way.

Mitro still seems clumsy on the ball and poor at holding it for others to come into attack. Rafa needs a reliable striker as he cannot completely depend on our current #9 to stay healthy.

He’s a got decent height, good box to box midfielder who can also pick out a pass, can play as DM if needs be and has filled in at CB at times. His biggest attribute was probably his reading on the game, it’s not worked out for him at Dortmund but he could become a favourite here.

He can also chip in with a couple of goals here and there if needed. He’s not quick but does have a good turn of pace from what I’ve seen, like most Spanish players he’s very comfortable on the ball.

The only area that we might have concern is that he did very well in the Spanish 2nd division and didn’t actually play in primera league. Dortmund saw enough potential to snap him up but he’s not fulfilled it for whatever reason. I do like the potential though, defo a step in the right direction if he can replicate what he did in Spain.

Sorry but that’s as much info as I provide

Is he a bit old for development squad? Can’t see him being any better than Hayden at this stage and odd that after so few games and Dortmund ready to let leave if we want to buy after loan.?

My biggest gripe with Mitro is his movement, I’d say he wants to get involved in build to much and not get into scoring positions. I actually think is hold up is one of his strengths and that a why he does a decent job in the assist column

    No probs buddy

To those who say it’ll be the end of colback, he might be competition for Shelvey more than colback, I think this is rafa making sure he has someone who can play both roles, Shelvey or DM. Keeps shelvey on his toes in case he goes of the boil and could mean the door for colback

This is a very good signing. Was very highly rated at Osasuna before joining a very strong Dortmund side. Seems like a no nonsense player who can handle himself so fair play to Rafa on this one.

Also Bladeuser (sounds like a sh*t superhero film title),
Do you even support Newcastle or you just always angry and negative about everything in general.

hibbit – That would be better, seems like he is a bit like Manquillo in that Benitez thinks he will be able to develop the player, but I’d like to get some solid players in too that we know will be able to hit the ground running

Another very young player with no experience in the Prem. And only on loan. Doesn’t seem likely he’ll play a lot either….. Hmmm……
