Mikel Merino Already Spotted In Newcastle – Photo

The Chronicle is reporting that Mikel Merino, the 21-year-old Spaniard we are trying to sign on a season long loan deal, has already been spotted in Newcastle.

He has been sighted outside the Freeman Hospital in High Heaton and the club seems to be moving extremely quickly to get this deal finalized.

That’s good.

It is said Newcastle have an option to buy the player in the loan deal at the end of the season for €7M – £6.2M.

However, there’s an update in the Express that Newcastle must buy him next summer – but we cannot confirm that – usually that;s an obligation to buy after he plays a certain number of games.

Rafa is reported to be a big fan of the player who usually plays as a holding midfielder but can also play at center-back – at 6ft 2ins tall so he seems to be versatile too.

Here’s our initial report on the move we produced about 30 minutes ago.

What do you think?

I like this type of loan system where we have an option to buy at the end, not like the Ojo or Tammy ones without option to buy

It’s self explanatory Dortmund do not let good players go unless the fee is to good to turn down Henrik Mkhitaryan springs to mind

I’m not keen on Clucas but if he’s available for 3m or 4m as was being reported recently then I’d bring him in……only to sell him next season for more money

You also need you consider the quality of Dortmund and weigh it up to what we have, I’d say most if not all of there bench would get into our starting XI.

This lad hasn’t made it at Dortmund isn’t such a bad thing, do you ppl know just how good that Dortmund side is? We aren’t talking about stoke or hull, Dortmund are a million miles ahead of us.

So as on a loan we can’t lose if turns out to be less than a£7m player we don’t buy. Still think we could be after añother CDM anyway and Colback and/or Diame could be away.

Im optimistic about this lad. People saying he struggled to get games at dortmund forget that Mikhitaryan sat on the bench so much that he was no longer needed. Also, you have Gotze, Rode and Kagawa sitting on the dortmund bench so of course his chances to shine were limited. Dortmund saw something in this lad, and so does Rafa, HWTL

I agree clucas has prem experience but so does colback, doesn’t really mean much if you don’t have enough quality to go with that experience.

I’d like to think we are to good for clucas and if he was any good then others would be lining up for him to snap him at what can only be considered a bargain price.

If these players turn out ok, we have a seriously young and exciting team on our hands, lads who are actually proud to wear the shirt, you can stick your Cabaye, Remy, Sissoko et al where the sun don’t shine.

Haven’t seen much of this lad, but don’t see any problems with the signing at all. He clearly has potential and wants to play, that’s why he has left Dortmund.

Would Rafa really sign him If he was s**t he is clearly better than colback and will give us some depth.

Overall, I like how the long overdue squad rehaul is taking place and we are getting eager players who want to shine for us while getting rid of eead wood or just players who are not good enough. I understand all the hate Colback is getting but did people forget how terrible Diame was? With that said, im hoping we really spring a surprise striker signing.

Get in there Rafa, I thought.
Aubameyang signs for the Toon plastered across every back page tomorrow, sprung to mind.
Feel a little gutted now 😀

Goes to show that none if the papers know our next move. This is now two players who’ve come under the radar.

might as well sit back and relax because the papers don’t know who we’re after until they’re seen in Newcastle, and we don’t need to panic when there’s silence.

Rafa moves in mysterious ways. When he’s silent, it’s because he’s working. His ways aren’t our own. Hopefully he sends off a few more dead wood to a better place.

Looks like this is one of our new chief scout Nickson recommendations, he is reported to have watched him in a under 21s tournament recently. Possibly under the instruction of Rafa. As reported in the Miiror.

Hopefully this might make posters who go into meltdown every time players we’re linked to sign for somebody else, think first.
That two players Rafa has brought in without even a hint until they were on their way here.
The media lie. Always have, nothing new. If headlines catch your attention what do they care? They also take the word of agents as gospel, when the reality is that they’re simply trying to attract bids. It happens every season, you should know better by now.

Thanks for posting that link. As others have said, not the most accurate way to tell if a player is any good. But he definitely looks the part off these clips. Playing very high up for a defensive midfielder though.

I think blaseuser uses those little plastic knifes that children use so the don’t cut themselves. It’s the only kind I could think his parents would possibly let him have.
