Is Rafa Really Still After This Top Transfer Target – Maybe Not

With Newcastle being linked with so many central midfielders at once we cannot be signing them all.

A bolt from the blue yesterday saw Rafa move quickly for 21-year-old Spanish holding midfielder Mikel Merino – as reported in the Sun – and lo and behold the same day he was at Newcastle having a medical.

That move was met with some glee from Newcastle fan from what we can.

28-year-old Andreas Samaris of Benfica

And that very good performance and win 4-0 last night with the whole game is on nufcTV free of charge and the lads looked really sharp at Valley parade.

It also showed Rafa’s getting the team organized and as he would say – compact!

We reported yesterday morning that Portuguese newspaper, O Jogo, that Newcastle was closing in on a move for Benfica’s Andreas Samaris.

At that time the switch for around €15M (£13.3m) was imminent but with Mikel Merino almost signed and Newcastle also reported after 26-year-old Brazilian Allan of Benfica we wonder if Samaris is still top of Rafa’s list?

It’s a good question to ask and a good situation for Newcastle to be in.

It allows Rafa to choose between the targets he wants and given the caliber and experience of those we have already brought in – which players would be good for the manager now to sign for Newcastle.

Samaris has 28 caps and one goal for Greece but he didn’t get the playing time he wanted last season with the Portuguese powerhouse appearing 32 times but a lot of those were second half sub appearances.

The news is he wants to leave Benfica and would be keen to move to England’s top league.

But we wonder if he’s still at the top of Rafa’s list?

What do you think?

I’d still go after a defensive midfielder despite bringing Merino through the door.To be sure, Merino does look like a great signing and he is easily the most exciting signing for me. However, his age, relative lack of bulk (by PL standards) and the fact that even the most established non premier league players need time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the league puts any reliance on him to be our sole starting DM a little risky. Having Shelvey, Merino, Hayden and another good central midfielder like Samaris or Allan would greatly enhance our chances of survival and progress. But first, we need to clear out our ginger pirlo!

    Re. Hmrc

If the tax details taken in the raid cant be used as the warrent was illegel does that mean they cant be used against the club in a court of law ??

Im confused as we have also said the info is available elsewhere.

Whats the point in todays court hearing ?

What are we trying to prove ?

Its BENFICA who want him sold and are handling it atrociously.
Massively overpricing him. Not double his value. More like 3-4 times what hes worth.
Then lying Everton were in for him. Everton treated the comment with the contempt it deserved.
Now Newcastle have moved elsewhere they’re trying to claim they had a deal.
I’d be delighted if they told Benfica where to stick the Greek and signed the Brazilian – younger, and for less
