Fans Flock To Twitter to Comment On The Signing Of Mikel Merino

Newcastle has made their third summer signing in 9 days in getting in Mikel Merino on loan for the season from German club Borussia Dortmund.

There are different news stories on whether the loan deal comes with an option to buy or an obligation to buy at the end of the loan agreement.

The one that we have heard the most comes from the Mail, and it says we have agreed to sign the tall holding midfielder who can also play at center-back next year for £6M.

Rafa doesn’t like a loan deal when we cannot buy the player who comes in on loan at the end of the season depending on how he plays.

But if Rafa believes in this player then he will have no problem with the obligation to buy, and that has saved us the transfer fee this summer but we don’t know how much the loan fee is and we’ll probably have to pay Mikel’s wages too.

Here are some typical tweets about the newcomer today.

Yeah Baby, love that Rafa is getting the players he wants. I also like the deals, getting players from European clubs and then putting them in the premiership has not faired well in the past for our club. But looking at the goods before we sign is perfect, why spend all that money and then finding out they cannot make the cut after one season. Perfect scenario for me as long as the clause is written on the contract and knowing Rafa is should be.

My experience with Bet365 is their idea of a stream isn’t ours! Might be different for a friendly but I’ve found in the past that they stick a picture of a pitch up and just show where the ball is.

Looks like this is loan with a fee agreed if he plays a certain number of games, this from the BVB site:

“Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mikel Merino, 21, is set to complete a loan switch to newly-promoted Premier League outfit Newcastle United. A binding purchase option was agreed with the English club for the event that the player features in a certain number of competitive matches.”

I’m surprised you’re surprised the lad speaks good English. Most western Europeans do and more often than not, better than many Brits!

If anyone wants to know the pinnacle of what this guy could become look no further than Javi Martinez, same academy, same style, same region and same position, hopefully he comes good

How much do we have left in the transfer kitty Rafa mate? If we sell Haidara for 1M and Krul for 4M that would double the kitty wouldn’t it? Then we could go after a top, top striker…. as long as he doesn’t want an actual cash wage. Let’s see, what top striker is available for no wage and a 10M or less transfer fee? Hmmmm. I’ll get back to you lot…..

    Welcome aboard tommotoon.

Mr T, Aye, made an account just to watch a game. Once was enough for me. 🙂 I might have just been unlucky and maybe they have the rights for this friendly, but like I say, turned out to be a picture of a pitch with where the ball was. Technically a stream I suppose, but not what I had in mind. Maybe others have had similar experiences or have been able to watch the game. Pretty sure it was in the season though and not just a friendly. Probably worth depositing a fiver to find out but don’t get your hopes up mate.
