Darlow, Colback, Murphy, de Jong And Mitrovic Start At Mainz – Merino On Bench

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has just named his side for the fourth pre-season friendly of pre-season against Mainz 04 in Germany this afternoon.

We now have three friendlies coming up in a short eight days, and then the lads have a rest of eight days as we prepare for our first Premier League game of the season two weeks tomorrow against Tottenham at home.

It would be good to win this game this afternoon to get the lads into that winning mentality.

Here is the team as just reported on the Newcastle United Twitter account.

After his excellent showing last week at Bradford, Jacob Murphy gets a start, and it’s a big chance for him to further impress.

It looks like Rob Elliot has the day off today so probably 45 minutes each for Karl Darlow and young Freddie Woodman in goal, who played well at Bradford City last week.

We also expect there to be changes at half time although maybe not as many as usual in this game?

It would be good to get the win this afternoon against the Bundesliga side.

Howay The Lads!!

Comments welcome.

Why don’t you actually name the team and not just the subs?

    From previous:

    @Custurd/99
Except Ed’s list is wrong as well.

He shows Murphy as £10m and doesn’t include the £2m extras we’re going to have to pay but yet he shows Gibson going out as £6m when in fact we are getting £1m up front with another £5m based on future achievements (we all know that 17 year old prospects can often fail to turn into the real deal).

He shows Merino as £6m pending (fair enough if we don’t have to pay that until next season but he doesn’t mention the £2.5m loan fee.

A year in the championship with premier league wages will have eaten into last years transfer profit and who knows how much we are paying to offload some of last season’s signings? I would imagine players like Hanley will need a little financial persuasion to half their wages at Notts Forest or wherever it is he ends up.

If he stays fit, he will be crucial for us this season, still needs competition though

Interesting to see players starting that Rafa is supposed to be trying to offload or who many see as not being good enough for the EPL.

EGB, Colback and Diame in the middle!
Never have got that bingo line up.
I have spent 2 hours playing with kodi for streams and though not the IT whizz, my heed hurts! 😮
Add to that cannot ever get the commentary on the NUFC.co.uk tv channel.
Seems crackers that people in Serbia, Norway and Croatia can watch us live!
    No wonder Mitro’s starting.

chicousa, the team looked OK in the 2nd half against Bradford without him.

He’ll for sure be our main man in most of the games but I reckon Rafa is looking at the alternatives just in case he gets injured or suspended.

I have to go out anyway so wouldn’t be able to watch even if there was a good stream.

Look forward to seeing it on NUFC TV even if I do know the result.

We can’t all be as jammy as Jib, enjoy the match.

What’s everyone else’s views on Bojan after being sent out on loan to Mainz back end of last year. I think he is a quality little player in the 10, PL experience and wouldn’t be that big a fee if he was cast aside last year to a smallish bundesliga side. I think he would be ideal for us!

Found a way around kodi issues 🙂

    Install source as this http://repo.ares-project.com/magic

Then you need to go to program addons and install ares wizard

Takes while to load up but you can install all addons like sports devil, zem (now known as Elysium) etc

Going to download some and see if they work but looks promising which is good as I was about to smash up my TV and firestick!

Reckon you are right mate. Looks as Diame now being played exclusively in the deeper CM role, where he seems more comfortable and effective than as a #10.

I like that Rafa seems to rate Dummett, I think most know he has his limitations, but Always give a good defensive display and puts in 100%, only lacking in the attacking front. well done Dummett
