The Sun is reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in signing Arsenal’s 28-year-old Spanish striker Lucas Perez.
Perez had a difficult first season at Arsenal, and he didn’t get the playing time he expected last season.
But in 21 appearances for the Gunners, he still managed to score 7 goals with 5 assists, and that was a very good return from the 6ft tall striker.
Perez seems a little fed up with England and has said he would like to return to Spain and his former club Deportivo La Coruna are just one of a number of clubs interested in taking him back.
The Sun is reporting that Newcastle is a possible destination for the Arsenal striker who is hardly a happy camper at the Emirates at the moment.
Newcastle wants Perez in a straight transfer, and it will be interesting to see how much Arsenal would want for their striker who they paid £17.1M to Deportivo for last summer.
Perez will now be further down the pecking order at the Gunners since Arsenal signed Alexandre Lacazette and the Spaniard will leave Arsenal this summer.
Perez wants first team football next season, so he has a chance of making Spain’s World Cup squad for the tournament in Russia next summer.
Rafa will be hoping that Perez wants to join him at Newcastle and he will definitely get a lot more playing time at Newcastle next season and he’ll be used as an out-and-out striker up front along with Dwight Gayle.
But if Newcastle signs Perez this summer it’s odds on that we would sell 22-year-old Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
