As we expected there are a lot of clubs wanting 29-year-old Arsenal striker Lucas Perez this summer after he had a disappointing season at Arsenal – but that was because he wasn’t given much of a chance at the Gunners.
Lucas still managed 7 goals and 5 assists in just 21 appearances for the Gunners – most of which were sub appearances.
In the two and a half years he was at Deportivo before moving to Arsenal last summer he scored 24 goals and had 14 assists in 59 total appearances for the Spanish club.
29-year-old Lucas Perez – would be great signing for us
It seems there is interest in him from several European leagues now and his agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle had this to say today – as reported in the Chronicle:
“Lucas Perez is calm, he has to train and worry about preparing for the season. He wants to play, he has said he wants to leave, but we also know that he has a three-year contract with a club that he signed 11 months ago.”
“At least we already have that asking price.”
“We consider it high and disproportionate because in the end he is a player who cost Arsenal €21M (£18.7M) and now comes after a year in which he has not played much and with a repayment of €5m per year to be distributed over four years.”
“It’s important to be clear – it’s impossible that Lucas Perez can go to Deportivo today.”
“To this day the best offer is from Deportivo. There is a lot of interest in the French league, the Turkish league, the Premier League, the Bundesliga.”
“It’s normal, we’re talking about an Arsenal player who did not play a lot there but he’s the only one who scored in four competitions.”
Newcastle seems to be hesitant in this transfer market although we did well to sign two Spanish players – Javier Manquillo and Mikel Merino in the last couple of weeks – and they both came right out of the blue.
We did well to sign them both so quickly and it would be nice if we can do the same thing with three other good players – starting with Lucas Perez – who would seem to be a very popular signing with the fans – if we can get him.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Even his agent is saying hes not worth his price tag yet i bet the minnies will call fattie for not buying him..
Hes not worth it and rafa knows it penfold will be told what value rafa puts on him and if we cant buy for we will move on and find someone that fits.
Simple really. Hwtl

Comment #2The club must actually enjoy torturing the fans. It’s clear as day what rafa wants and what’s needed. We have potential all over the park but 4 more experienced top quality players are needed for us to have a pop at having a good rather than tortured season. Rafa even said he wanted 4 or 5 more in his talk in. Before we signed Merino.
So I just hope we get in players in these positions and soon.

It’s clear the budget is tight but for pitty sake this is painfully slow progress.
On another note I assumed Merino would play next to Shelvey as competition for Hayden or in a 3. But I’m aware he can play in a few positions including centre back which he came on to do in the last match but I was hoping he’d relegate colback from the side. We need more pace and passing in midfield and battling qualities not colback the liability.
I noted his long range pass that only just fell short to the defender that was great vision and could well have put us in on goal…more of that please lad.

Comment #3I’m happy if rafa is happy but being the thorough professional he is I can’t see that being the case without 3 or 4 key players coming in.

Comment #4Magspuggy – Completely agree. Mitro has a better scoring record and he’s six or seven years younger. I’d rather try and get Remy in. Chuck Correa in the mix and it’s a good window for me.

Whats the options mate ??
Blow what little we have on someone over priced or hang on and find the players we need within budget.
Its painfully slow but theres no need to panic buy.
The market will change as others need to sell or stump up wages for another half season.
I bet we have offers for several players on the tables at clubs atm we are just waiting for them to drop the pricetags so we can talk to the players.
Agents milk the system as well and that could be a big part of it..
In rafa we trust fattie not so much

Comment #6See Leicester just paid 25 mill for a player and Watford 13mill. Be nice if we can sign a new striker before the season starts but I think we are baulking at the inflated prices.

Comment #7Where’s the problem ? If Rafa thinks Lucas can do a job and wants him at £13M then Ashley has to buy him ( as promised )why is he f???ing about .? I can honestly see Rafa doing one and the old story ( it wasn’t me ) from the c??t himself leading everyone to believe he tried his best to keep him , not this time though you b????rd , your playing with fire now and I for one won’t blame Rafa if he does walk .raffa could be in charge of big big players at other clubs so why does he want to hang around 2nd rate penny pinchers ? My guess is he won’t and as I said previously , that will be me done with NUFC . I just don’t need it any more . Sad but finished with them

Comment #8Fine if Rafa thinks he’s not worth it
Then don’t buy him . I go with that , but if Rafa does walk then he has done for a reason and we all know what that reason will be

Comment #9Ah yes Watford who finished 17th in the PL for £109 million
And Leicester who finished 12th for £121 million
vs
NUFC who won the Championship for £7 million

Comment #10We’ve only got £7m earnings to play with? No pl TV revenue to come this year? No billionaire owner who can comfortably afford to advance his own business? What a shame. Looks like we won’t be buying any more players then (pulls roller shutters down)

Comment #11I’m still hopefull that Rafa is hanging back and will get 2 in before the deadline. However, if Rafa walks because he hasn’t got the paultry amount needed, then I’m totally finished with the Toon until Ashley sells up!
