Newcastle Striker Finally Completes Loan Move

The Mail is reporting that Newcastle’s 21-year-old striker Ivan Toney is all set to move to League One club Wigan Athletic and is currently having a medical at Wigan.

Newcastle is ready to loan out Toney, so he gets first team games next season which will help greatly in his development.

Toney has been impressive for the U23 side at Newcastle, and he could yet have a future at the club, but he must bang those goals in while he’s on loan.

Toney was not surprisingly in high demand, and Scunthorpe United wanted to sign him on loan again this season, but it looks like Wigan have won the race to sign him.

Toney joined us back in the summer of 2015 when we signed him from Northampton Town, and he has so far made four appearances for the Newcastle first team.

But Ivan is not part of Rafa Benitez’ plans for the coming season with the first team.

Here are the ins and outs at Newcastle so far this summer.

May be better to be first choice striker at a top club in league one than second choice striker in a lower championship team. For confidence at any rate

    came across this
At a recent Tyne Wear derby, Rafa Benitez goes into the changing room to find all his squad looking a bit glum. “What’s up?” he asks.

“Well, we’re having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it’s important but it’s only Sunderland and we can’t be bothered, we always beat them”.

Rafa looks at them and says, “Well, I reckon I can beat these by myself, you lads go down the pub.”

So Rafa goes out to play for Newcastle by himself and the rest of the team go off for a few beers. After a few pints they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the television on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads “Newcastle 1-0 Sunderland (Benitez 10 minutes).” He is beating Sunderland all by himself!

Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers “It must be full time now, let’s see how he got on.”

They put the TV on. “Result from St James’ Park: Newcastle 1 (Benitez 10 minutes) – Sunderland 1 (Cattermole 89 minutes).”

They can’t believe it; he has single-handedly gotten a draw!! They rush back to St James’ Park to congratulate him. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in his hands. He refuses to look at them. He says, “I’ve let you down, I’ve let you down.”

“Don’t be daft, you got a draw, all by yourself. And they only scored at the very very end!” the players say.

To which Rafa replies: “No, No, I have, I’ve let you down… I got sent off after 12 minutes”

From much earlier. Terribly boring but here it is.
To respond. I am not sure on the question of fairness. Though the football industry by design has a lack of financial transparency. The average fan on here to suit their argument constantly talks of net spend. It’s somewhat irrelevant as WW indicated because clubs almost invariably look at individual player costs over the term of contract.
    NUFC under Ashley
have often paid the entire fee up front or by a limited number of instalments of short duration. This reduces the overall cost of the transfer and is favoured by selling clubs.
A club in buying a player is required to follow accounting practice which is termed player amortisation.( I’m not an accountant and apologise if you are) . It’s by this means that football clubs view individual player costs. The transfer fee is spread over the length, term of the contract. The same treatment is adopted to the players wages and also any agent fees or any costs to be incurred by the player( over term of contract) which the club has contractually agreed to meet. This on an annual cost basis. The actual overall cost of buying an individual player is determined. I have not mentioned image rights etc.

In short it clearly exceeds the average fans view of just considering the transfer fee and free transfers are not free. WW was right in distinguishing player costs in the way he did.

Fans often rush to judgement because of a lack of transparency. NUFC communication has improved under Rafa but having an hostile fan base doesn’t help.
