We had reported earlier today that with more teams being interested in signing Lucas Perez it may be difficult to get this player through the door at Newcastle.
But the Chronicle is reporting today on a piece in the London Evening Standard which says that Newcastle could well turn out to be the best fit for the Spanish striker.
Certainly, if we can manage to get this 28-year-old through the door this month, he would be a big signing as far as our fans are concerned.
The Evening Standard is reporting there will not be any shortage of clubs interested in the talented Spanish striker and that his former club Deportivo has already put in a £9M bid.
Lucas Perez in Deportivo’s colors
However, Newcastle should be able to meet the £13.4M price but (as usual) we have balked at that price even though it’s around £4M less than Arsenal paid Deportivo for him last summer.
After a tough year in London, it’s not too surprising Lucas wants to return to Deportivo., but with Newcastle having a world-class Spanish manager maybe he would consider staying in the Premier League where he would be a starter for Newcastle next season.

Lucas is an excellent player with a terrific left foot, and Rafa Benitez could get the best out of him and therefore maximize his chances of making the Spanish squad for the World Cup in Russia next summer.
Maybe that’s why the Standard is reporting that Newcastle could prove to be the best fit for Lucas if he cannot return to Spain.
Newcastle prefers a loan move, but we are still hoping the club will show some real ambition and sign this player who could fill a gaping hole in the Newcastle squad.
He’s a gifted player who can score goals for us if he gets playing time and Arsene Wenger has said today that Perez will be sold this summer.
Over to you Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley – please show some real ambition and sign this player.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #41I’m pretty sure Mr Ashley has a “The buck stops here” placard on his desk. Surely the previous three incumbents could have at least tested that placard by warning Mr Ashley about his Chief Scouts profligacy?
carl, your agenda smacks down your logic.

Comment #42I wonder would we be happy with Welbeck at Newcastle? This guy in the vid clearly rates Perez far higher than Welbeck and from the comments it’s obvious he wasn’t given a chance

I got blasted on here for saying I’d take 15th spot now if offered. I’m not massively optimistic with regards to our chances this season but doesn’t mean I don’t want us to do well. Unfortunately any kind of comment which highlights shortcomings or concerns is addressed as mackem, wum, arm chair fan etc etc etc. We get responses like…..we have rafa etc, when I reality I believe rafa exceeds in cups and not leagues but he’s still class especially for where we are.
I’m fully prepared for what I’m expecting this season and if we finish higher than 15th I’ll be chuffed, if we end up having a season of flirting with danger those with high hopes and aspirations will be panicking more than me as they aren’t expecting it.

it’s hardly tuff’s fault if he hasn’t got as many ”ins” at the club as you do.

Comment #46carl (the little “c”) interesting that both you and Jack Root think I need a holiday – well not interesting as you are both the same person. Also both making reference to baldness – as I recall similar comments by both – and of course Ian Toon – all the same person.
Interested to see where I blame Mr Tubbs for the lack of transfer activity – never said such a thing – just made up to have a pop -in pursuit of old scores.
Can your time not be better spend apologising to the blog for your multiple deceptions, tall stories about Cabaye telling you about his contract. And after that why not spend some time at your car club – I can just imagine it – fighting over who is the driver.

I would take Perez in a heartbeat. Question is, would he want to come north to Newcastle?

Comment #48OT – time date now – I think our finishing spot would be 13th/14th/15th. Thus getting some nice PL cash for some better buys by Rafa – thus improving the season after that.
Few on here say exactly the same but do not get the abuse.
(Mind any superstar purchases and I will want to re-assess).

Comment #49I think he would definitely come to Newcastle if he was made the main striker and guaranteed first team football

Comment #51I am ever the optimist, Newcastle will finish around 11/12 place. Have that weird feeling, also possibly if we can get these signings in we need, pushing for top ten place. I know crazy right, but with the signings we still may get, it is possible. ( Let the onslaught begin ) lol

Don’t beat yourself up to much for receiving criticism about willing to Finish 15th in the Prem this season.
The season we were relegated under McClaren some bloggers on here were predicting TOP 6

Comment #53I think Peres could do a great job for us. If you try to make a comparison between Mitro and Peres , It’s a no brainer. Peres anticipates really well, he loves the early ball behind the back 4 splitting the defense. He’s just made for Shelvy.
