We played well but we were helped by some comical defending by them. I’m not sure how strong a team they put out but a win is good for confidence.

    Just to add some perspective
    Not pissing on anyone’s chips
The Bundesliga only has 18 teams
That is only 34 league games per season
Two teams go down and two go up
Last season Mainz were 15th and Wolfsburg 16th
    Both with 37 points
    Bayern had 82 points

    Just saying like.

Jib…much people don’t think the situation has changed since the Mainz game…we still need players in key positions and we still need a +15 goal striker…

…but as martoon says a win is good for the morale…for everyone’s I suppose

it was more about how we played yesterday a very good performance even with all the changes we still looked organized and held or shape reasonably well a good runout will give us a bit of confidence for the season ahead
we obviously still need reinforcements and upgrades but we also have to take the positives out of the game the new signing all looked decent and seemed to fit in well which at this stage is a big plus

    JIB, man, how could you?
I was expecting a Champions’ League spot after watching that game and hearing what Russian and German Ando said 😮

With Kelechi Iheanacho on the verge of signing for Leicester City
Newcastle are clear to go for their former striking target Islam Slimani

The starting line up yesterday was a lot more coherrent compared to Saturdays. Personally I expected as much. If, as jib says, the two german teams were similarly ranked, to me it proves that the “occasionals” were getting thier final run out last weekend. We still could do with a goal scorer imo, and a no.10 would be useful, but asside from that we probably have enough to do the required job. Merino by all accoints looks like a hell of a find.

I thought we looked much better than against Mainz (which I vaguely recall through a German beer-fuelled haze)
If we can up our levels by the same margin against Verona (who got promoted to Serie A with a decent 74 points) we should give Spurs a game on Sunday lunchtime August 13th

You say that wolfsburg/mainz finished 15th/16th in the bundesliga but with our squad would we finish any higher? By the way did anyone get a chance to see Correa last night, I missed the game and was he any good?
