Newcastle seems to have switched their attentions from Arsenal striker Lucas Perez to the cheaper striker – Joselu.
Joselu has not had a good time of it with Stoke City over the last two years, but he has had a decent pre-season scoring four goals so far.
In any case, if Rafa thinks Joselu can do a job for us at Newcastle – then so be it.
Rafa must see things in the player that he can bring out at Newcastle and have Joselu be able to do a job for us next season.
With Joselu not having had the best of times at Stoke they could be willing to sell fairly quickly, and Newcastle may be in the driver’s seat on this one.
27-year-old Stoke striker Joselu
The 27-year-old cost Stoke only £5.75M when he signed on from Bundesliga club Hannover 96 just two years ago you wouldn’t think he’s worth too much more than that now.
The fact that both strikers – Lucas Perez and Joselu – are Spanish tells us that Rafa thinks he can get his two countrymen playing a lot better at Newcastle with Rafa doing the coaching.
Rafa is one of the best managers in football, but we have struggled this summer to get the players in we wanted.
But we are short now of maybe only three players – one of whom is a goalkeeper and one a striker; the other is probably a specialist left-back or playmaker.
We’d be relatively happy if we can sign goalkeeper Adrian from West Ham United (who is also Spanish) and Joselu or Perez for the striker position.
There again, maybe Rafa wants to sign both Perez and Joselu?
We also expected that Rafa would bring some Spanish players into the club and there’s nothing wrong with that.
We don’t really care where they come from as long as they are good and want to join Newcastle United – that’s the only requirements to be part of the Rafa revolution.
