Newcastle Bid £12M For Striker But It’s Turned Down

There’s a Mirror report out today that is both short and explosive.

It says that Newcastle will not pursue a deal to bring Andros Townsend back to Newcastle and that we have also had a £12M bid for Stoke City striker Joselu tuned down.

Rafa is said to be furious at the state of affairs.

It’s a surprise that Stoke would quickly turn down Newcastle’s second offer for Joselu and £12M seems a decent deal for the Potters given he was signed for less than half that from Hannover two years ago.

Joselu was signed for £5.75M, and he hasn’t exactly had a fantastic time of things at Stoke City, so it seems that £12M is a good offer from the Magpies.

Stoke City striker Joselu

The question now is whether Newcastle will go back in with an increased offer, but Joselu’s almost as expensive as our top striker target – Lucas Perez of Arsenal – who is available for £13.4M.

In fact, Perez could turn out to be cheaper than Joselu.

The common sense thing to do for Newcastle now would be to bid £12M for Lucas Perez (maybe even less) and see what the response we get from Arsene Wenger – that’s very nearly the fee the Gunners are asking for Perez.

And Perez showed last season he can play very well in the Premier League when he gets a chance.

The 28-year-old Spaniard scored 7 goals and had 5 assists in 21 games for Arsenal in all competitions.

What do you think?

Been saying that as has likes of Bobby but it just goes on and on …

Roll on end of window. Agree with Rafa that it’s ridiculous to have new season start whilst transfer window is still open. Log jam might start to free itself after next weekend?

Oh should add that someof the “logs” we have are Rafa’s eg Hanley and Lazaar. Not griping just being accurate and showing how easy it is for a player we fought over for a long time last season (Hanley,) to become unwanted so quick and on good wages and long contract. That’s football.

If rafa is not happy with this there could be trouble ahead this week but we need for rafa to come out and say what’s happening with the transfers only he knows but it does look like ashley f@cking him around nothing changes at our club .

I am sure Rafa will be feeling unhappy at how market is working (or not) at moment. If he is wanting to speak with Ashley it may well be to persuade him that given the state of play and though happy with budget discussed in May more funds injected now would help or even to argue that some hits might have to be taken on players he wants to let go.

I know as much as these journalists looking for stories!

Find it hard to believe we would bid 12m for that pile of sh1t when we could ad 1.5m and buy Perez

Not everything you read in the press is gospel. and remember Rafa said (out of his own mouth) he is not leaving. Apart from this story in the press, there is nothing to suggest Rafa is any more upset than any other manager. He will be frustrated with this transfer window, we all are, but the asking prices and players wage demands are not the faults of the club.

The clubs faults lie in the stupid contracts handed out to mediocre players, that we are stuck with.

If Rafa did come out as you suggest then he would be doing it most weeks. You cannot keep responding to speculation.
He has spoken recently and seemed happy to be here.

There have been transfers and most under the radar so for now I am not going to react to Press mutterings – they gain traction by repetition on the Internet etc and become more plausible only because of it.

I wonder if wages are the reason we ain’t getting the Arsenal lad. Seems £13 .4 million is not too bad but if he is on huge wages (we are experiencing the same) maybe this is causing the stalemate.

That Joselu doesn’t look too bad, although you can never tell from denniswisetube.

I still think we will get better players before window ends. You can understand to an extent that Rafa wants them early hence pay the asking fee but powers that be know if wait til last minute they will save some money which they like to do.

    Bombshell coming up though….

If we don’t get the players Rafa needs I genuinely can see him giving this season only and then moving on to an ambitious owner at another club. Rafa sold this club to players as his project….

    Time will tell.

Find it hard to believe Charnley would sanction a £12m bid for Joselu, and rightly so. Hopefully the lads are working hard behind the scenes to get a deal thrashed out for Lucas Perez. The power lies with the selling club for the most part this window. But 1 or 2 quality buys will be enough for us. Quality does not equal Joselu…

Not panicking over season ticket yet as club have said give it until Wednesday before contacting them and they go out in batches I understand. As I am at end of alphabet I am putting it down to that.

If not here by Wednesday I won’t be happy though as if I need to go to box office or something for 1st game it will have to be on Sunday just before game as I live away.

Doubt this story is true, why bid double what Stoke paid a season later when Joselu had a terrible season last term – smacks of paper talk and highly unlikely Rafa cares that much – he might care about Perez but this guy … no chance

5 year deals are part and parcel of football – agents and players sometimes want them and it suits clubs at times. It is only when transfer doesn’t work out that you see the problems.

For us it is usually wages being the problem with players not attracting PL interest and Championship or most French clubs not able to match even if player wants the move.

Don’t see much truth in either of these links.

The Merino signing came from nowhere and I think other signings will follow suit. Although Perez for 13mill does seem like a no brainer.

Not bothered about a new keeper, let Elliot and Darlow fight it out until Jan then buy if needed.

It’s a striker, no.10 and a left back we need.

Go get Bertrand, Tadic and Gabbiadini in a triple swoop….just kidding!

It would be an idea to have wage contracts that are adjusted to first team appearances. That way a player who lacks form, gets injured a lot of just doesn’t work out would be paid half of his contracted earnings & will be motivated to move on to get his earnings back up. Or to pull his finger out. Would stop all this hanging round like an expired fart for years on ‘what if he becomes great’ pay.

Whilst Rafa will leave at some stage as all managers (and owners) do unlike most of us (!) I think as he seems personally happy to be here he will give it until it is absolutely clear that the gulf between his aspirations for club and Ashley’s are unbridgeable.

Could be next season (for either one or both) but I am hoping it is the trials of the first season back up and the stupidity of the market (Neymar – what!!!) that is the main issue and staying up will have us in clearer waters next year.

Trouble with contracts is that these agents keep wanting the best (some might say the impossible) for their clients.

Trick for clubs is to calculate that if agreeing to demands but the worst happens they can get out when they want without too much of a hit. Not only us but others have found this to be easier said than done.

when pogba moved to Manchester United last summer earned the player’s agent Mino Raiola £23 million in agent fees.and it could raise to double that
    http://uk.businessinsider.com/manchester-united-pay-paul-pogba-agent-2017-5

how can that be good for football
I read that if neymars didn’t sign for another club before 31/7/17 he was due 23 mill from barca
