Report – Newcastle Now Pursuing New 23-Year-Old Transfer Target

The Mail is reporting today that Newcastle is now interested in signing the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper 23-year-old Lukas Raeder.

Lukas stands just short of 6ft 5ins tall and was German International Manuel Neuer’s understudy at Bayern Munich for two seasons from 2012.

He was a member of the 2013 Bayern squad who won the Champions League by beating Borrusia Dortmund 2-1 in the final and then were the FIFA Club World Cup Champions in the same year by beating Raja Casablanca of Morocco 2-0 in the final.

Raeder is now a free agent after spending the last three years with Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal after leaving Bayern back in 2014.

23-year-old free agent German goalkeeper Lukas Raeder

He is currently training at Southampton and the Saints are looking at possibly signing him to offer some competition to former Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

But the news is they have failed to agree on terms for the German goalkeeper but Borussia Dortmund is also said to be interested in signing the player.

Newcastle is in the market for a third goalkeeper this season with 20-year-old top prospect Freddie Woodman going out on a season long loan to get first team games – probably to a League One club.

It’s fitting we don’t spend much money at all on a third goalkeeper this summer because both Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow can certainly get the job done for Newcastle in the coming season.

Both goalkeepers continue to improve under the adept coaching of Rafa Benitez.

And if we do sign Raeder he has a chance to improve with Rafa coaching him and he’s young for a goalkeeper too.

What do you think?

He hasn’t played many games over the last couple of years. If Southampton don’t rate him……

what is our best team with our current squad.

would Lascelles make anyone’s stating 11?.
should he start just because he is captain?.
we are a few days away from the start of the season and i think this is the most important question no one is asking.

Some may see that as a good summary by the lovely !? Louise Taylor – lifelong Sunderland supporter and shitstirrer supreme.
A nicely veiled article by a clever wordsmith who knows which buttons to push with the hysterical end of the NUFC spectrum.
Expect the wind-ups by certain of the NE press to get more severe as Sunderland sink deeper into the mire.

Surely if we are going to get a keeper it needs to be a starting keeper otherwise what is the point.

A 6’5″ keeper who could take out crosses must be worth investigating – it certainly negates many attacking situations and reduces goals against.
We should keep him on our Raedar

    @Mr Funk.
Lewis Baker on loan with obligation to buy would be an outstanding deal. It would sort our number 10 position out. But I think we’d want to shift Diame, DeJong or Perez first otherwise we’ll have 4 players on big wages for that one position. If we get rid of one or two of them, then I expect we will see someone come in.

Also people keep saying our net spend is 18m, but we have an obligation to buy Merino and expect that to happen so our net spend is odds on to be £24m, if we get Perez as I expect then our spend is £37m which is pretty decent compared to other teams.

The article could have been written by a 13 year old bairn. No insight and no facts in the article. How did they come to the conclusion we will finish 13th? Who knows? The article does not tell us, other than it is an average of their writers tips. It’s obviously not Whey’s keys Louise’s opinion given the disclaimer. Given that some of their tipsters would have predicted we will finish fairly low, possibly in a relegation spot, (Louise?) some baffoon must have us finishing in the top six to have an average position of 13th.
She just spouts out some worn out stories and theories without any clear foundations. If she has some sources she does not mention them, I would suggest it is all hypotheses albeit being based on past experiences. I suppose she was in Sainsbury’s at the time a supporter had the conversation with Rafa.
The whole article is absolute garbage.

It would be canny if we signed Perez and he scored the winner against Spurs, with him being ex Arsenal.
Not sure about the goalkeeper, I don’t see it as being a priority area although Rafa obviously does.

Good question. My answer would be that Lascelles should not start against Spurs, and that Shelvey should be captain for that game.
I do think that Rafa’s rotation policy will see him getting plenty of playing time, probably as captain, as the season progresses.
My team v Spurs, failing any new signings between now and Sunday, would be :
Elliot, Manquillo, Lejeune, Clarke, Dummett, Shelvey, Merino, Ritchie, Perez, Atsu, Mitro.

I suspect we still have some money left in the transfer kitty but the problem is the wages budget. Ashley has probably set some kind of ceiling on this and I guess we are close to it. That’s why they are desperate to get rid of the likes of Haidara & Riviere even if they have to give them away on a free transfer!

This penny pinching has been going on for long enough, surely something is going on behind the scenes if we can’t afford 13 million for a player, am I correct in saying that before the season ended Benitez was promised 80 million to spend, if so where is it? we have a net spend a grand total of 20m FFS, We Need a striker, it really is as simple as that, if mitro or gayle get injured we have literally no goalscorer in the team.

Why has this saga been allowed to go on for so long?

Why can’t Ashley see that if you don’t spend money we won’t stay up and we will lose alot more money than if we stayed up? its just mind blowing and im sick to death of this penny pinching.

There’s literally less than a week to go until the premiership starts and we still haven’t signed an out and out goalscorer when it’s blatantly obvious to everyone that it is a striker what we badly need.

Mitrovic, as much as I like him as a player is only young and still not quite good enough for premiership level, he is a good player to have on the bench as he always brings something different, but I can’t see him leading the line banging in goals consistently, the same must be said for Gayle, he is only proven at championship level, he might be able to chip in a goal or 2 every once in a while but again, is not the goalscorer we so badly need.

Sign a striker or suffer the consequences.

Dean, the problem we have is we have too many players that we can’t get rid of. I’m not sure if it is possible to pay off 4 or 5 players contracts in one go, but even that will run up in to the millions

It’s funny how you won’t have a word against Ashley. I agree some hysteria, some may call it football supporter passion, certainly does exist at times. Yet you would seem to condone Ashley on every level and choose to overlook any number of indiscretions Ashley has perpetrated over the last 10 years. I am merely asking why that is.

Just wondering… Maybe Rafa will switch his prefered formation of a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3.

We don’t have a number 10 good enough for the league but we have invested in another defensive midfielder and a fee more wingers.

Maybe we’ll see this verses Spurs.

This would obviously become a 4-5-1 when defending.

Shelvey as captain? The lad is almost as much a liability as Mitro. He’s so easy to wind up and I don’t think he could handle the responsibility to be honest. Ritchie would be my captain all day long. Committed, energetic, passionate and whole-hearted.

On another note, Clark & Lejeune could just be one hell of a pairing. Been a long time since we’ve had two central defenders who are both comfortable on the ball.

the question is a season long question, not who should start against spurs, although i like the team you have picked. I like the CM players, both seem to be able to spray the ball about, and whilst i like Hayden he a 1-2 type of player always on the move wanting the ball.
our number 10 all depends on our CF, Mitro doesn’t have any speed so he needs Perez to offer that. where as Gayle has speed but would benifit from someone like SDJ to play clever balls through, it’s why gayle/perez don’t work, both looking to do the same thing.

this rotation thing is only for some of the squad, not the whole squad, and that’s why i posed the question. a teams Capt, should play when fit, and i know this is only my opinion , but i think it’s questionable whether Lascelles is even our 3rd choice CB i personally think Mbemba is better than him in every aspect other than talking to the papers selling out other players, a good captain or leader only tries get the best out of the players on the pitch.
