The Mail is reporting today that Newcastle is now interested in signing the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper 23-year-old Lukas Raeder.
Lukas stands just short of 6ft 5ins tall and was German International Manuel Neuer’s understudy at Bayern Munich for two seasons from 2012.
He was a member of the 2013 Bayern squad who won the Champions League by beating Borrusia Dortmund 2-1 in the final and then were the FIFA Club World Cup Champions in the same year by beating Raja Casablanca of Morocco 2-0 in the final.
Raeder is now a free agent after spending the last three years with Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal after leaving Bayern back in 2014.
23-year-old free agent German goalkeeper Lukas Raeder
He is currently training at Southampton and the Saints are looking at possibly signing him to offer some competition to former Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
But the news is they have failed to agree on terms for the German goalkeeper but Borussia Dortmund is also said to be interested in signing the player.
Newcastle is in the market for a third goalkeeper this season with 20-year-old top prospect Freddie Woodman going out on a season long loan to get first team games – probably to a League One club.
It’s fitting we don’t spend much money at all on a third goalkeeper this summer because both Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow can certainly get the job done for Newcastle in the coming season.
Both goalkeepers continue to improve under the adept coaching of Rafa Benitez.
And if we do sign Raeder he has a chance to improve with Rafa coaching him and he’s young for a goalkeeper too.
What do you think?

Imagine Perez and Vazquez (must be worth loads of points in Scrabble ) joining up with young Perez and Rafa – Fiesta time !
Newcastle handed huge boost as top target threatening to leave current club
According to reports from Spanish outlet Don Balon, Newcastle United target Lucas Vazquez has told friends he will look to leave Real Madrid if he is benched for the UEFA Super Cup Final.
Lucas Vazquez has been a loyal servant for Real Madrid for more than a decade now and he has managed to feature prominently for Los Blancos over the past two seasons after breaking into the first team back in 2015.
However, Vazquez has not been able to establish himself as first choice at the Santiago Bernabeu and with Madrid currently said to be looking to acquire Kylian Mbappe from Monaco; his chances of becoming a regular starter will be further decreased for sure.
As a result, Vazquez has been touted to leave Madrid this summer and Premier League outfit Newcastle United have expressed a desire to sign the 26-year-old over the past few weeks.
Now in a huge boost to Newcastle’s hopes of signing Vazquez, Spanish outlet Don Balon have gone on to claim that the 26-year-old is currently frustrated at Madrid and will be demanding to leave the club if he is benched for the UEFA Super Cup final against Manchester United on Tuesday.

Comment #45Do you guys experience an increase of in-town seagulls?
…it’s a pest here in Aarhus and expects no longer call them seagulls…they are referred to as urban gulls and rural gulls if they are by the water!
We have been infested the last few years where I live…what in irritating sound they make and on the most ungodly hours!

Comment #46Vazquez has to be the most outrageous link yet!
‘If I don’t play in the Super Cup final I am going to move to the cold and wet North East of England and play for a recently promoted team with an owner showing zero ambition ‘
File under not going to happen I think.

Comment #47Jesper, this is Newcastle my friend, not Brighton but 🙂
Anyway, ST’s arrived this morning. Back in my favourite old seat again. Lost it last season due to a mix up and thought though it was gone for good. Guy who took it missed the first game, came to the next few games, saw us lose, swore we were shite and never came back!! The one time I’ve been grateful to a plastic fan! 🙂

Just a reminder it’s that time of the year – its prediction time. I thought I’d keep the categories the same as last year which were:-
Final League Position
Final No of points
League Cup Round (7 = Final)
FA Cup Round (8 = Final)
Player of the season (Blog)
Top Goal Scorer
No of Goals for TGS.
Don’t forget to put MY name (not your name) in your prediction post so I can find it easily.
Also as the window doesn’t close until end of August we may get a new striker etc. Therefore I will allow changes to TGS & POTS to a new signing after the season kicks off until window closes!
So far I have predictions from:

Comment #50It will be interesting to see how Rafa copes with all the teams playing three at the back next season. Compared to 4-2-3-1, it really seems as a rock does to scissors in the game paper, scissors, stones. It’s very similar to when 4231 was introduced and tore apart 442. I think this will be our biggest problem, not which players we have. I don’t think Rafa has ever come up against this 352/343 high pressing style. Maybe Rafa will change also to play 3 at back although I doubt it. I’m not sure we’ve even got the wingbacks to be able to try it. I’d have like to seen it experimented with once during pre-season.

Comment #54Jesper I sympathise with your sky rat problem – here on the North east coast we know all too well the nuisance caused by local pests. They swarm all over the place looking for opportunities to swoop and snatch things, create a mess, root through garbage and generally defecate everywhere not to mention the awful shrieking din to the early hours of the morning. But thats mackems for you. What can you do?

Thanks for tallying the votes for this – it’s much appreciated.
Final League Position: 9th
Final No of points: 52
League Cup Round (7 = Final): 5 (quarterfinals)
FA Cup Round (8 = Final): 6 (quarterfinals)
Player of the season (Blog): Shelvey
Top Goal Scorer: Mitrovic
No of Goals for TGS: 18
I think Gayle will struggle for fitness and we’ll have lots of players who chip in with goals along the season but our starting striker will end up as Mitro (barring any new signings) and that will mean he gets the majority. Likely SDJ gets 10+ with Perez, Shelvey, Murphy and Ritchie (maybe Atsu, too) in the 6-12 category. Can’t wait!

Comment #56There has been a lot of speculation about his future. What are the issues there?
He was unhappy in January when the goalposts moved. He was unhappy at the start of the current transfer window, when the goalposts moved and he’s unhappy now. His hands have been tied in the transfer market. This is not how it was in the brochure, and that did for Keegan ultimately, in 2008, when he was outmanoeuvred by Ashley and his inner team and the club descended into acrimony and its first relegation for 20 years.
Benitez wanted two new players in January and was told no. He wanted four at the start of the current window, and got none. That’s half a team. He believed Newcastle had the potential to be a top-five side, but that momentum has gone.
He thought he had more to spend and more control over transfers. It has not happened. This is not what he thought was happening when he left his meeting with Ashley at Shirebrook a matter of days after leading Newcastle United to the Championship title.

Newcastle United fans will once again be handed the opportunity to watch Rafa Benitez conduct a first-team training session first hand for free.
The club has confirmed that its annual open day will take place at St James’ Park on Thursday, August 17
