Poll – Where Will Newcastle Finish This Season In Premier League?

Now that we are only a matter of days from the start of the Premier League season we will launch our poll on where Newcastle can finish in the league table next May.

We had been waiting a little bit hoping we may get some additional players through the door but no such luck – not yet anyway.

It’s not only because of owner Mike Ashley’s thriftiness this summer that has caused Rafa not to get the players he wanted but also the fact we have less money than other PL clubs to spend having been down below for a season.

Florian Lejeune – could be big player for us this season

You cannot get away from that.

We also have seen some ridiculous prices and loan fees being asked for our top targets.

It’s not only Mike’s unwillingness to spend money this summer but in truth, he hasn’t helped much either.

Call us daft and stupid (what again?) but we still think we’ll finish in the top ten next season – simply because of Rafa’s brilliance and the unbridled passion of our fans.

Let us know how you think we can fare this coming season.

I think ‘onest Mike has been talking baloney and Rafa is subtly telling us it’s going to be a slog, I hope everything works out

I think it’ll be a keeper, with Woodman out on loan.
A striker, with Rivierelinho promoted to cellar manager.
And, unless any ‘bargains’ suddenly appear, nowt else.
Assuming RAFA has identified 23 squad players, that’s 25 and job done.

    NEW, Elliott, Darlow
    Yedlin Manquillo Jesus Dummett
    Lascalles Lejeune Mbemba Clark
    Hayden Merino Colback Shelvey Diame
    Ritchie Murphy Aarons Atsu
    De Jong Perez
    Gayle Mitro NEW

Not ideal but Clark, Mbemba, Colback can all play full back.
If young Freddie satys, guess that frees up one more slot, either the bargain basement signing or one of our deadwoods to get a squad number – lease not Rivi 😮

At the end of last season I predicted we wouldn’t spend much this summer, but readjust come January…mainly because of MAs attitude. I Really hoped I would be wrong…

I think it will be a tough old slog this season. Could it be that Rafa is less worried about winning things and just happy to keep plodding away in a steady job so he can maintain his UK lifestyle? Maybe he is OK with Mike’s way and can live with it?

looking at the problems we’re having offloading the “dead wood” I don’t think we will buy a keeper. Might as well keep Krul on the books till his contract runs out. Any money available could be better spent elsewhere.

People asking who won last year and the general consensus was Budge123 was closest:

    Budge123 1 92 5 4 Ritchie Gayle 23
    Actual 1 94 5 4 Ritchie Gayle 23

Clinath, bringing Krul back in to the fold would leave us with just the 1 spot, ready for Bas Dost 💡

Ideally we need three players, ST, CM and LB. For now, I will keep Krul and prioritize the other three positions. If we buy CM, we need to sell a CM, who will it be? Coldback or Diame or even De Jong.
My favourite buys will be Perez, Delph and Gibbs and sell Coldback. Thats it. We can even try to get Delph on loan.

We have far too many deadwoods and cant really judge MA ambition until we sell them. From business perspective, we need to cut down cost. He is doing exactly that although I am not a fan of him.

m.a. – my list was the assumed 23 from The Mag, posted yesterday.
That list assumes the deadwood/sales will include:

    Krul (6/2018)
    Lazaar (6/2021)
    Haidara (6/2018)
    Good (6/2018)
    Hanley (6/2021)
    Saivet (6/2021)
    Rivierre (6/2020)

    Sels (6/2021) Loaned to Anderlecht.
    Left out the under 21s.

Cannot see Ashley sanctioning purchases of players when there are already 4 or more players already on the books who can do that roll. HE sees quantity not quality. He has done this repeatedly over the last few years now.

    I know we’d like to shift Colback/Diame/others
    but these:
Krul Haidara Good – last year of contract – value, very little
Rivierre – nearly 3 years left on contract – value ?????
    Lazaar Hanley Saivet – nearly 4 years left on contract- maybe 2 + 5 + ???

We need to get rid of these 7, all on decent wages and we’d really struggle to get 10 million.

    2. Was that 6 in a row chap BladeSpewer?

Partly Benitez fault as well. He bought Lazaar, Gamez(not in the list actually) and Selz for no solid reason.
Had he kept Krul last season without extending his contract and got a LB on loan, we wouldnt have four players by now ( Lazaar, Gamez, Krul and Selz).

Last time Rafa made comments on transfers within 48 HRS we had a signing. So if nothing happens today, there won’t be a transfer in this week.
However, if we do sell someone we may get someone in.

Still think that Lewis Baker we be a good loan signing. He can play cm and AMC.

Charlie is that 1 away win in the season?
    Seems optimistic!

Quite a few going for Lejuene for POS.
Hope he is that good. The mood on here when he signed was general deflation so either the rest of the team isn’t fancied or he’s looked a world beater in preseason?

    .

Matt Richie just interviewed on 5 Live.
Asked, of course, if the feeling in the dressing room was that Rafa would still be at NUFC at the end of the season, to which he replied yes.
For me, wherever we end up in the PL this season, unless we get relegated, I won’t care provided Rafa is still with us when the season finishes.
Without him and his inspiration to all connected and not connected to the club, hope of better things to come will disappear.

We need a striker and another defensive midfielder

I agree that Rafa is not without blame either. 2 dismal full backs Gamez and Lazaar who we can’t shift and contributed nowt last season, a decent centre half, but not good enough for Prem in Hanley who we can’t get rid of for same reason we can’t get rid of the wastes of space Riviere Saivez and Haidara – they’re overpaid and no-one is daft enough to pay a third of what they’re paid here. But they were Carr’s fault.
But Rafas made some poor signings too and will again.
But thats what happens with footballers. Most when they’ve got full bank balances (like the Frenchies) don’t feel the need to justify their worthlessness
Some knuckle down from the off. Ritchie and Gayle for instance

But Rafa is not without a small amount of blame, true

I think 14/15th is achievable, if we get Perez, top 10, but 10th is still a disgrace for a club of our stature
