Once Kenedy Is Signed On Loan – Newcastle Need Just Two More Players Brought In

Note – my apologies for putting Anderson in headline initially – must be the chemo getting to my damned brain – sorry – this article is about Kenedy.

If we assume that we sign Chelsea’s 21-year-old Kenedy soon and that he can challenge Paul Dummett for the starting left-back spot at Newcastle, then we think Rafa has only two players to sign this summer.

We still need a striker, and we need a playmaker, and that’s in case we lose Jonjo Shelvey to injury or suspension.

When we lost Shelvey last season, Newcastle did not look the same team so we need another creative playmaker who can stand in and come to the fore if Jonjo is out for any reason.

We have signed Mikel Merino on loan from Borussia Dortmund, and he has enough talent to play in the advanced central midfield position.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – must keep this player for next season

That would be if Jonjo is out and remember Isaac Hayden proved last season he is a rapidly improving holding midfielder himself under the guidance of Rafa.

To some extent, Mikel Merino can fill in for Jonjo, but we still think it would be terrific to get in another creative central midfield player.

The other player we need is a striker – an out-and-out striker who can score goals.

Our latest target Lucas Perez would be a great signing for us if we can get him into the club – either on loan or permanently.

That would give us three out-and-out strikers in the squad – the new signing, Mitro, and Dwight Gayle.

But we also know that Dwight is rarely available for a full season because of his hamstring problems, and indeed he has missed the last two friendlies with Rafa protecting him hoping he can play against Spurs on Sunday afternoon.

If Dwight did suffer an injury, it would mean we need to bring in two strikers – not just one.

So Newcastle may still have a decent transfer window if we can get Kenedy, Perez and a creative midfielder in by the end of the month.

What do you think?

Rafa Benitez & NUFC are like a terrible marriage, and Rafa’s just muttering to himself ‘stay together for the kids’ (us fans)

Mashley you fool, don’t let her walk away, she’s the best thing to happen to NUFC for a long time, and you’re lucky to have her.

Get some flowers from an all night service station, come home earlier, light candles, cook for her..

    Bit of effort man.

Or I’ll slap the face of ya myself

Rafa hasn’t faced a relegation battle in 20 years, but that’s what he’s gearing up for, with his CV he deserves better, and he might tolerate it this year, first yeat back in, loss of tv money last year.. etc

But next season he better have a proper budget, or he’s leaving and taking the kids.

I hope Kenedy is being brought in to play left back, as the prospect of Kenedy and Yedlin overlappin is tasty.

But I have a feeling he’s being brought in as a winger.

Which may free Matt Ritchie up to play a position I’ve always wanted to see him in, and where he spent the last half hour of the last friendly, number 10.

So Atsu / Murphy / Rolando (please stay fit) / Kenedy.. as our wingers

Ritchie as number 10 along with Perez, if Siem is moved on to pastures new..

Or along with Siem, and Perez becomes the 3rd striking option.. that’s the scenario if noone else comes in.

It all depends on how much money Rafa really has, if Kenedy is being signed as a winger, and Ritchie moves to 10, it points to not having enough of a budget to get a quality 10 and striker.. which it seems we don’t.

To be fair, if we could only get one, I’d rather spend it on a striker this window too.

Just need to clear some space ; Krul, Haidara, Lazaar, Hanley, Saviet, Colback, Riviere

That’s 7 that definitely have no place in Rafa’s plans, and the lowest of those wages is 15,000 a week

If we could get 15 million for them, and clear enough wages for 2 big signings, we might see more incomings.. but these players are in the position of earning too much to go to the clubs that they would be useful for

Kennedy is a right winger who Chelsea have tried to convert to a RB/ wing back- he’s not a left back and I don’t think he’s ever played on that side.

does anyone know how many loan players are allowed ….thought it may have been two …if so any future will be on a permanent deal….rafa seems to be going down charlie mitten route on left wingers so could be perez he can play left wing…

Not sure where you’re getting that from? Majority of games I have seen him play he has been either left back or left wing.

GONUFC #4 – He’s played as a left forward primarily in the Brazil youth teams, and for Fluminense.

He played 20 games for Chelsea, 10 at left back, 10 at left wing.

He’s played everywhere in his career from centre mid, to centre forward.

But he’s spent 95% of his career to date on the left.. most of it as a winger.

I’ve been watching him since Fluminense always reminded me of Alexis Sanchez in the way he scraps, and the hunger to win the ball, there’s a fight there.

Wherever he plays, it’s good business, and preserving our limited budget to hopefully land a big fish.

Dummett’s place is in no danger with the squad at hand – including Kenedy. In my estimation, Dummett is coming back to the Premier League a much more seasoned defender, than when he left. LB isn’t a position that I am personally concerned about (unless Dummett gets injured).

there are not many better at pulling raw potential out of players than rafa !
we cant afford lukaku’s or silvas and neither will they come to a team thats just been promoted and has no guarentees of being in the prem next season.
murphy/rola/manquillo/lescalles/merino/woodman are hopefully these sort of players in a very raw form that we can get and do want to join us so i’m very happy with benny and his signings so far and looking forward to the new season.

The thing is though we need 2 players for every position..

Even if Dummett has left back nailed down, Rafa wants rid of Lazaar and Haidara. Which leaves us with one left back.

And whilst Gamez and Manquilo can both play there, either would be a stop gap, and are happier on the right.

He was disappointed sure , but just because a fancied target doesn’t materialise,it doesn’t particularly mean someone has been incompetent.

It’s not one target though Jib.

It’s 2 windows in a row, you’re right in that it might not be Charnley, it might be Ashley not giving him the tools to do what Rafa wants done.

But out of all the managers under Ashley’s tenure at the club, for once we can feel that the footballing side is under control.. from under 15s up.. every aspect.

It’s the other side that needs to catch up.

toon kk…personally I think he decided to stay because he saw challenge and if Ashley would back him then you could do great things (maybe he was a bid too gullible…but maybe that’s just our luck in a way), and he wants to stay in England where his family are.

The job is perfect for him…it’s just a shame those running the club are more or less incompetent…or just really don’t care!

PAUL MERSON prediction for Sunday Newcastle v Tottenham Sky Sports

Newcastle simply haven’t signed enough players. Rafa Benitez has managed at the top of European football and I’m sure he doesn’t have plans to stay in the Premier League by the skin of his teeth following promotion.
I can see this whole affair at Newcastle coming to an end soon if Rafa continues not to be backed in the transfer market. They haven’t spent enough and if it wasn’t for the fans I’d tip them to go down.

Spurs are as good as anybody in the league and against a Newcastle side, who will have to attack in front of their own fans, this could be a cricket score.

Rafa has been let down and knows along with every honest fan it’s going to be a tough season.
