The last time we played Tottenham at home in the Premier League was a year ago last May when we took them apart 5-1.
And even though we were down to 10 men after 69 minutes (Mitro was sent off) when the score was 2-1 in our favor we still went on to score three more goals and win the game 5-1.
That’s the good news from the past.
But as Rafa has said this will be an entirely different game and we will do well to get a point off Tottenham – one of the best teams in the Premier League these days.
But here we go again on a new Premier League season which kicks off tonight with Arsenal playing Leicester City.
Let us know how you think we will fare against Spurs on Sunday.
Ans where will we finish this season?
Howay The Bonnie Lads!!

why don’t you rate any of the players Rafa brought in, its odd that you have no faith in a world class managers ability and have no trust in his judgment that’s whats odd

I think the fact we’ll be underdogs this season is a good thing. The psychological pressure should be off a little!

Comment #46I dont think rafas bought players with a view to sell on for profit. I think he has bought players he believes he can make better and who can put pressure on the lads who have the shirt atm. Yes some will be sold and the show will go on but hes not building a selling club hes building a squad that can hold its own in the best leauge in the world. Without a sugar daddie to bank roll us its hard to do but we have a winner doing it.

Thats a good point actually mate…as last year we seemed to struggle more when were favourites, especially at home… hopefully it works in our favour this season.

Yes, home form was relatively disappointing last season. Hope it’s different this year!

I said the players we have signed are a gamble. I’m not questioning Rafas ability to spot a player. Although he signed some duds last year.
Due to financial constraints etc, it’s not impossible to see how we might struggle this season. I mean Gayle is already battling with his Hammies.
Manquillo had been poor in epl
Atsu had bounced around on loan before having an average season for us last year. Will he be able to step up to EPL and perform consistently?
Merino to be fair not seen much of him, but didn’t play much last season. The chances of him adapting to the EPL before Xmas is maybe asking too much.
Lejuene again, is an unknown quantity in the EPL even though he was at Man City.
Hope I’m proved wrong.

Comment #55I wonder if we are looking at the Brentford LB Rico Henry – same club as Jota
Seems like we are the last one in for Lucas Perez at the moment. I think if we came in with a £12m offer for Perez we could be able to get him.

Comment #56I bet the delay for Kenedy is a negotiation over a loan fee. But it could also be for an option to buy. Or with Brazilian players tend have complex ownership / agents.

Comment #65I am guessing, based on the two spanish reports (newcastle have agreed to pay full amount and deportivo can’t afford 12m euros) that we offered arsenal 12m euros over a loan deal; and this being the best offer they’d got, went back to deportivo saying 12m up front and he’s yours. ie match the newcastle offer; hence the two spanish reports.
My little journey of wishful logic has me thinking he will be on his way to us if no one comes in to gazump. But also I believe it may drag on, whilest arsenal wait for better and the haggling over details continues.

Comment #70Spurs are there to be got at.
his Rose shenanigans won’t help especially if he’s a popular figure in the dressing room and is expressing a sentiment held by a few more of their players.
No signings must also be concerning them and affecting morale.
Sold Walker and Trippier injured.
Few more injuries to first team players.
Raucous crowd hopefully giving Sissoko both barrels if he plays.

Comment #77Bettyswollocks. Jibs link in english..
Benfica are still looking for a goalkeeper and Tim Krul is being singled out as the latest name linked to the ‘incarnate’ goal. The Newcastle guardian joins the range of options to find a successor to Ederson.
According to the newspaper A Bola, Benfica have already asked the English club what terms would be needed to free the guard who does not enter the front lines of Rafa Benitez in Newcastle.
However, the Dutch keeper only enters into the accounts if Lukas Hradecky gets in the way. The Finnish international continues to be the ‘A’ plan for the goal, but negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt have been dragging on.After a loan season in Holland, Tim Krul would welcome a transfer to Portugal where he would fight for titles and could play in the Champions League. The objective of the goalkeeper is to return to the Dutch accounts with a view to the 2018 World Cup. For now, the ‘orange’ team is fighting for a place in the World Championship that is disputed in Russia.
Benfica’s interest in Krul is not from now on and the guard has already been linked to the Light club in the past, but the interest did not result in negotiations for the Dutchman to go to Portugal. The option is now gaining momentum with potential business in the pipeline.
Benfica have three goalkeepers at the moment, but Júlio César is injured. Bruno Varela is the option to defend the networks while Paulo Lopes remains although it is still not certain that he stays in the club as a player since there is a proposal on the table to integrate the structure of the ‘incarnates’.

Comment #79The managers ability to assess someone and then try to improve them must have some versatilty attached.
This must be so when working on a list of players for the same role. The manager must be more confident with someone at the top of his list compared to someone way down in fifth place – if not they’d all be rated the same.
Fans appreciate this as well and can tailor their own assessments of the players – varying from I suppose a top class player to someone mediocre.
With one or two one here that is then translated into a fan being negative – when nothing is further from the truth it is just someone expressing an opinion. And again on here it is one or two harping on all the time about others opinions if they differ from those they hold.
Opinion drives football/football journalism/blogs/fans discussions etc etc – and also upsets some.
