Rafa Benitez Now Close To Newcastle’s Sixth Signing Of The Summer

News today in the Chronicle that the signing of Chelsea’s 21-year-old winger/defender Kenedy on a season-long loan deal is very close and Lee Ryder of the Chronicle had tweeted a few days ago that it was now down to the paperwork – so fingers crossed the deal will go through soon – maybe this weekend.

Rafa had spoken to the player when he was in London on Wednesday attending the Premier League manager’s meeting, and we assume he got various opinions on the lad’s character by talking to his contacts at the south London club.

And since Rafa is willing to sign him on loan – probably with an option to buy him next year – tells us he is not too bad a character at all although he did make a terrible mistake on Chelsea’s China tour and was sent home for that.

He did apologize immediately and profusely when he realized he had made a big mistake.

Kenedy – expected to be Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer

But that’s part of life, and Kenedy should learn from that mistake which is easy to make in a foreign country that has vastly different cultures than he’s used to.

Rafa spoke at his upbeat press conference yesterday about what was happening in the transfer window and had this to say:

“We have some targets, but we also have a lot of players in this team.” “We need to find this balance.”

“We are progressing with some targets and we’ll see if we can bring them in.”

If we can get Kenedy signed we really need at least a third goalkeeper and a striker – or even two strikers – and then we should be OK – always depending on the quality of the players we sign.

But this is not what most fans expected this summer when we thought we had at least £70M to spend according to local reports.

But it is as it is and we just have to get on with it.

Comments welcome.

Where do people think kenedy is being signed for? #10, wing, full back?

Could even be a different option, maybe as striker? He played there in Brazil and there were talks through the summer that we wanted 2 strikers.

I suppose it was nice to read for once that it’s difficult to compete with the likes of Citeh instead of the old rhetoric where we were compared to the likes of Swansea and Bournemouth…

Well if this is the position Rafa has known about (and been resigned to) for some time then it looks like my scenario b where Rafa is going to see out the season, avoid relegation, craft a higher than mid-table finish out of another built-for-purpose bargain drawer team, then see if next year’s income is on the table. End of this season then for Rafa’s (possible) tipping point. It is what it is, so as long as Rafa brings the goods what more can we ask of him

But if we struggle to stay up this year Mike will be back in the spotlight as the owner who could have done something about it. He’s washing his hands of any ambition really by putting the absolute brake on any further personal investment and indeed any commercial input from his other interested business( whoever that is ha ha) and insisting on the club doing its own nose-wiping and horse bolting. Quote within his rights of course, but disappointing as a fan to see a full ownership with a completely and utterly distanced personal involvement. I’ll hand it to him though he’s been quite straight about that to be fair. No illusions.

Will Rafa really have this lad pegged at full back ? Only if he does what Dummett can’t – pick intelligent passes and deliver crosses consistently.

Hail. I agree mate its something the club could fix. Itssomething that annoys loads of fans and if rafa can have every penny then it makes sence to work hard to increase that amount any way we can.

The issue of renaming the park is also something that could be looked at again.
If it can raise as much as 20-40 mill per season can we afford not to change it ?.

The mancs get millions for adverts on even the training kit its going to be very very hard to get anywhere near that but we could do more than we do atm.

With the club being self sufficient you have to wonder what the point of Mr. Ashley being here is…

…it doesn’t benefit Newcastle…unless of course two relegations and the financial hell of it is seenu beneficial!

Just his name got mentioned about the same time as colback was apparently told he wouldn’t be involved, one for one replacement, and the lad can seem to play centrally from the clips ive seen, but just an assumption/guess by me though mate.

    Sissoko’s best seasons here:

    13/14 – 3036 mins – 3 goals and 6 assists

    15/16 – 3223 – 1 goal and 7 assists

Ritchie in his only season with Bournemouth in the PL:

    15/16 – 2979 – 4 goals and 6 assists

Ritchie will better those stats this season if he gets 3000 mins and he brings more to the team – passing ability, tactical intelligence, work ethic, passion, link-up play, set-pieces.

For me Ritchie is a much better player, Sissoko is just more striking to watch when he goes on a rampaging run so it gives the impression he’s much better than he is, because few possess that power, but he rarely does anything ultimately productive with it.

Think if he plays RWB for them tomorrow Atsu could have a lot of space!

If Watford could cross a decent ball they’d be dangerous. Some of the crosses have been woeful. Most of them in fact.
As much as everyone likes to see the big teams beaten, Watford are more competition to us than Liverpool and I won’t be upset to see them lose.

Magspuggy the problem is we do not have an internationally famous brand so huge money sponsorship isn’t going to happen any time soon. Walk into any sports shop in major European or North American city and you won’t find our merchandise anywhere.

This brings us on to SJP. It’s not really worth selling out a huge chunk of club identity for the paltry return of a petty sponsorship. The SD flagshipping patently did not sell that idea at all and even Wonga of all people saw the value in avoiding it like the plague. Much better that the brand building could start somewhere like boosting images like SJP

Like I said different types of players with their own styles, didn’t say I preferred sissoko. Just that it’s closer to say who was better. Not a fan of stats though mind.
