Rafa Benitez Now Close To Newcastle’s Sixth Signing Of The Summer

News today in the Chronicle that the signing of Chelsea’s 21-year-old winger/defender Kenedy on a season-long loan deal is very close and Lee Ryder of the Chronicle had tweeted a few days ago that it was now down to the paperwork – so fingers crossed the deal will go through soon – maybe this weekend.

Rafa had spoken to the player when he was in London on Wednesday attending the Premier League manager’s meeting, and we assume he got various opinions on the lad’s character by talking to his contacts at the south London club.

And since Rafa is willing to sign him on loan – probably with an option to buy him next year – tells us he is not too bad a character at all although he did make a terrible mistake on Chelsea’s China tour and was sent home for that.

He did apologize immediately and profusely when he realized he had made a big mistake.

Kenedy – expected to be Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer

But that’s part of life, and Kenedy should learn from that mistake which is easy to make in a foreign country that has vastly different cultures than he’s used to.

Rafa spoke at his upbeat press conference yesterday about what was happening in the transfer window and had this to say:

“We have some targets, but we also have a lot of players in this team.” “We need to find this balance.”

“We are progressing with some targets and we’ll see if we can bring them in.”

If we can get Kenedy signed we really need at least a third goalkeeper and a striker – or even two strikers – and then we should be OK – always depending on the quality of the players we sign.

But this is not what most fans expected this summer when we thought we had at least £70M to spend according to local reports.

But it is as it is and we just have to get on with it.

Comments welcome.

Chelsea defence can’t handle Vokes, he could have had a hat trick if they hadn’t disallowed his other goal.

Stats in the West Brom vs Bournemouth match, West Brom lead 1-0

    Possession:

    WBA 30% – 70% Bourne

    Shots on target:

    WBA 4 – 0 Bourne

    Off target:

    WBA 6 – 1 Bourne

    All that possession for nothing.

Often wonder when the Ashley debate gets fresh legs how many of the haters are relatively new to supporting i.e only aware of Hall/Shepherd and Ashley. No lecture just an attempt at some insight into not just the split but the intensity of the viewpoint.

Those around since 60’s ( that’s right there was top Football before the PL) know we have had several dubious owners. Ashley may have renamed stadium but he never took the roof of THE place to be in the 60’s ground ” The Leazes”, failed to then redevelop ground and left us with a fading stadium and team for years – makes a man/woman of you 🙁

In the main but not exclusively those of a certain era can divorce themselves from the hysteria over Ashley, accept it as pretty much par for the course and concentrate their support on club. Others can’t or won’t do so rand there is a disconnect between a these groups.

There have been worse owners than Ashley and we came through it scarred but still fans. Only discussion was in pub before and after as I have previously touched on and no internet running sores back then. Sack the board chanted in ground and outside main stand after game was the way to let off steam and that was it until next match.

In each league only one club can win it. A certain extreme poster’s oft repeated views on here would mean that unless you are one of the 3-4 clubs likely to seriously compete for title then there is no reason to waste your time giving support to your club. Takes care of around 99% of clubs?

A serious thought out view or a wind up? I know what my money is on and I only bet on certainties.

From what I have seen of Kennedy I wouldn’t trust him at fullback. Could be a decent prospect on the wing but he tends to overplay the situation. Also a bit concerned about his attitude. He didn’t do well at Watford. And he’s fallen out with Conte. He is currently on the bench for Chelsea though.

    The Vicar@10
” Wake up China” could be construed as probably deriving from Cockney rhyming slang as “China”= “China plate” = “mate”
So just gentle friendly humour that the sleeping guard should pay attention during these security conscious times , hence ” wake up mate “.

Be careful how you use ” marra” in these troubled times !

Hull looking good early doors in Champ – held on to their star ST in Hernandez and got a couple already today and they’re 3-1 up.

The mighty Villa and their supposed embarrassment of riches in defence are 2-0 down 😆

Burnley shitting it and asking for trouble by playing as if they’re the team down to ten and just sitting back.

Villa now 3-0 down with their huge wage bill and misspent cash over the last 18 months.

They’re in danger of following a Leeds style downward spiral.

Wonder how much it’ll take ’til reality dawns on Terry and he checks out mentally and starts picking up ‘knocks’ like Colo used to? Already have Micah Richards happy to sit back and pick up a fair wedge.

    Hail

i think that what’s wrong with Eddie howes team, he gets the team to get a hold of the ball and pass it until they find and opening, very little risk, and great if you have Messi type players. the problem is most do t have a messi type player, so IMO esp in the prem, you have to attack very quick, and not shoot from 20+ yards, you need get people in the box and cause confusion.0

I reckon they’ll thrive, and Brighton will struggle. Not a great set of results for us so far today, you’d have to say.

    Aye Catchy

    It’s now at:

71% possession to Bournemouth and they’ve now recorded 1 shot on target and 1 more off target this half.

Burnely, rather Dyche, really made a mess of this half – 3-2

Abramovic must be fairly p@ssed now.
His missus is divorcing him and Chelsea have unravelled. They don’t have the fan base or passion to match previous years bought success.
How about he sells up down there, pays up his wife and makes Ashley an offer he can’t refuse.
Give Rafa all the loose change he needs, buy all of Darras Hall for fun and get down the Big Market to meet a new lass.
    Everyone’s a winner.

So 3 of the top 6 have played and conceded 3 each so far.

Well I thought I was being realistic in thinking we would probably end up taking a 2-0 loss and “lessons learned etc” tomorrow but if we follow the league pattern so far we could end up edging a 7 -goal thriller ha ha crazy couple of days.

Suspensions mounting up at Chelsea. Their next six fixtures:

    Spurs (a)
    Everton (h)
    Leicester (a)
    Arsenal (h)
    Stoke (a)
    Man City (h)

Could be a worse title defence than Leicester’s…

Well done Huddersfield – enjoy the moment.
I recall my childhood club Carlisle United being top of the First Division ( for the youngsters that’s the original Premier League ) and look at them now , reduced to playing Sunderland in the whatever it’s called now League Cup.
    Heady days.
Can’t wait for tomorrow – the buzz never leaves you. Chips on the way home. Wait for the Pink sports paper . Well ok check the phone for all the results but you know what I mean.
