We have to understand that for whatever reason – maybe being down below for a season – Newcastle has very little money to spend, and both Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley are working together closely trying to get the best possible squad together before the end of the month.
And it looks like one of our targets – Joselu of Stoke – is very close to moving to Newcastle with the news in the Stoke Sentinel that he has just passed his medical at Newcastle.
Stoke fans seem to think Joselu is a good player, so we have to get behind these new players in what is going to be a testing season back in the Premier League.
But knowing Rafa’s ability to bring in good players we have a feeling Joselu will be much more mobile than Daryl Murphy – who didn’t have much trouble scoring goals with Rafa’s system last season.
Let’s get right behind Rafa and the players – as Rafa asked us in his press conference on Friday.
Call us stupid (what again?) but we still think we can finish in the top half of the Premier league this season.
We gave Spurs all they could handle yesterday before Jonjo’s madness.
Here are some tweets about Joselu from the Geordie fans.
Yous all called Ciaran Clark shit (including me) and he surprised us all so give Joselu a chance ey boiz #NUFC

I won’t b surprised Rafa has joselu ahead of Mitro in the pecking order. A physical fwd who is more mobile and skillful on the ball #nufc

Surely there’s a decent song to made for Joselu. #NUFC

Interesting signing for £5m. How many times have we slated players before they’ve kicked a ball for us, but became well-liked? #NUFC ?

Stoke fans seemingly disappointed to lose Joselu, yet some of our fans think he’s a “shite” signing? Get behind him maybe? #nufc
— Wayne Roberts (@WayneRoberts_87) August 14, 2017
Lazaar and Gamez were Rafa’s signings so he has to take some blame. Don’t see further incomings after Joselu and Kenedy for #NUFC as such
— Matthew M (@matts_mo) August 14, 2017
Never got a chance at Stoke, he’s had a good pre season, reckon he will do the business #nufc
— Hitmanherbert (@h1tmanherbert) August 14, 2017
#NUFC have a worse squad than we had when we were relegated & now we’re signing Joselu? 4 goals for Stoke since 2015. Rock bottom..literally
— Alexander Woolf (@woolfalexander) August 14, 2017
Alexander – try to look on the bright side – if possible.
“We need a striker”! #NUFC buys a striker, “He’s not cost £30m he must be shit!”
No fucking wonder we’re called fickle!! ??

Stoke fans in meltdown that they are selling Joselu, some of our fans in meltdown because we are signing him… ? #nufc

And finally …..
Looks like someone’s been at Joselu’s Wikipedia page already #NUFC

Comment #41I’m optimistic about the lad, Rafa will know all about him, the Stoke lot don’t seem pleased about it and there’s positive things being said by people who’s opinion I’d listen to.
The people with a bug up there ass are being rather unfair on the lad, maybe he’s a back up striker and another is also coming in. Even if he is a back up i think it stinks a lot of people are righting him off before he’s kicked a ball in the black an white!
I hope he scores 20 and gets an apology letter from the neggars, shame on you!

Comment #44Following King Eric’s latest outburst we rank 10 of his best quotes from his colourful career…
10) “The revolution is really easy to do these days. What’s the system? The system is built on the power of the banks. So it must be destroyed through the banks. A real revolution” (2010)
Wading into the global financial crisis the footballer/philosopher/actor has sparked an online campaign calling for a “real revolution.” Cantona has called for a mass withdrawal of funds from banks by the tens of millions of people affected by the recession around the globe.
“This means that the three million people with their placards on the streets, they go to the bank and they withdraw their money and the banks collapse. Three million, 10 million people, and the banks collapse and there is no real threat.”
His message has gathered momentum but has been questioned by economists who have said such a tactic would mean banks quickly run out of cash and require further Government intervention.
A quote from the legend Eric Cantona which might help us to understand financial difficulties.

Comment #46As someone who doesn’t pointlessly whine about Ashley every post, because we can do nothing about him and my life involves other things, why are people so wound up by his interview? He’s little different from most, if not all, of our owners in my lifetime. All about the money. Of course he won’t pour any more of his money into the club, but WHY does this surprise some of those who’ve done nothing but gripe about him? Did you honestly expect anything else? You’d think this was some sort of bombshell ffs. This should come as a surprise to nobody. If you paid attention you’d know the blueprint has always been for a club our size to pay for itself. Rafa agreed to this but clearly expected more money. He’s not getting it. Shock horror headlines. ‘Ashley’s a tightwad’.
Just because I don’t write this every single post doesn’t mean I’m not aware of it. It’s been blindingly obvious for years, but what is the point in fretting over something you can’t change? And don’t say stop going either, because you simply don’t get why we go and I’m bored explaining that as well.
Get over it. We are what we are which is a great club stuck with a crap owner. Not much has changed in 50 years.
Whining on here does no good. None whatsoever. He’ll go when he finds a buyer which is the sooner the better. Repeating that ad nauseum is pointless and boring.
Get behind the players and manager, who are more committed to this club than some on here apparently.
This is a season more than any other that we’ll be needed.

Comment #47This is it? Hoser Loo instead of Perez? You must be joking Ashley. Where does Hoser fit in the pecking order? Is he going to be wor number 2 striker behind Gayle who will be unfit half the time? Or is he being brought in to wake Mitro up? I’m verrrrrry disappointed!!!!

So you believe we shouldn’t “whine” when he comes out with mendacious rubbish such as:
“I’m nowhere near wealthy enough to compete with clubs like Man City. I don’t have the ability to write a cheque for £200m.”
That’s insulting supporters’ intelligence, surely.

Comment #49If Hoser Loo can’t catch on at Stoke what good is he to us? Stoke are pitiful in attack. Again we waste money on someone who will add little to the team. And does this mean we’re out of the Perez derby? Please don’t tell me that!!

Comment #50From what we hear, Perez has always fancied a return to Spain. We don’t want a homesick Spaniard on our books.
Merino, manquillo, lejeune were all pretty much unknown quantities before they took to the pitch on Sunday. They acquitted themselves well in their first game for NUFC.
Hopefully it’ll be the same story with Joselu.

In competition with Peter Crouch at Stoke there was only going to be one first choice striker. ( Hugely underrated no.9 has been Crouch over the years IMO).
If you’re a Mitro fan you might be miffed, but this signing could get him to up his game, which is possibly Rafa’s thinking.

Comment #64But Mag52 mate didn’t Crouch just apply for his pension? I think he just turned 67 or 68? He’s tall but very, very old. Hoser Loo must have been unacceptable to Hughes. I just can’t see the point of this. Mitro sitting on the bench with his blood boiling while Hoser Loo trots about the pitch not scoring? I hope I’m wrong and this works out well. We still need a top striker though. This hasn’t done anything to address that need…..

Comment #66No, it’s more likely that Mitro gets sold now sparky. He would bring more money and the Turks are mad for him. They love a manly striker that bites peoples’ legs off over there. 15M for Mitro will help pay for a good number 10 to feed wor Hoser Loo.

Comment #71Jesper……… I can assure you that you did make those dipareging comments about Jamie Sterry before he was anywhere near our first team. I was very disappointed at the time as I am good friends with his father which is why I remember it distinctly.
Rafa rates him which is why he has given him another contract and told him to keep working hard and his chance will come. That I know as fact. It is your prerogative to have a skeptical and often cynical view of our players and club , but to condemn without reason seems somewhat unfair to me.

Comment #78Ron, you seem to be missing the point. Surely we all know what he’s like by now? Does this latest interview tell you anything you didn’t already know mate? Surely not.
This is why I choose to ignore owners. They’re all in it for the money, they’re not fans. The man’s a dick, but I didn’t need this latest interview to tell me that and I seriously doubt you did either. He’s been a dick since he came here hasn’t he?
My point being, what’s the point in continually going on and on and on about a man who, apart from owning the club, has no personal investment in the club – by personal I don’t mean financial.
The only way he’ll leave is if somebody stumps up roughly 400m smackers to buy the club. I can’t do it – who can?
By all means, be annoyed by his comments if you choose, but we’ve been hearing what we already known for years – the guy’s a dick 🙂
I’m just surprised anybody is still surprised, tbh. Especially those who’ve posted nothing else for years.
Time to get behind the manager and players imo. They are genuinely committed to NUFC. I’d rather do that than waste my time on a dick. That’s my point mate, nothing else.
I give SJH great credit for rebuilding our club. I’ll be eternally grateful for that, which is why I tend to give him a break. But the rest – and even him towards the end – took more out than put in. Westwood, Seymour, McKeag, Shepherd snr, Shepherd jnr, all milked us. This clown is nothing new, but so many came on board when KK was here and seem to think we were always like that for some reason. That was the blip, not this! 🙂 As you know.
You’re not one who never shuts up about Ashley, so I wasn’t aiming that at you mate. I thought you might be like me by now – immune to it!! 🙂
