We have to understand that for whatever reason – maybe being down below for a season – Newcastle has very little money to spend, and both Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley are working together closely trying to get the best possible squad together before the end of the month.
And it looks like one of our targets – Joselu of Stoke – is very close to moving to Newcastle with the news in the Stoke Sentinel that he has just passed his medical at Newcastle.
Stoke fans seem to think Joselu is a good player, so we have to get behind these new players in what is going to be a testing season back in the Premier League.
But knowing Rafa’s ability to bring in good players we have a feeling Joselu will be much more mobile than Daryl Murphy – who didn’t have much trouble scoring goals with Rafa’s system last season.
Let’s get right behind Rafa and the players – as Rafa asked us in his press conference on Friday.
Call us stupid (what again?) but we still think we can finish in the top half of the Premier league this season.
We gave Spurs all they could handle yesterday before Jonjo’s madness.
Here are some tweets about Joselu from the Geordie fans.
Yous all called Ciaran Clark shit (including me) and he surprised us all so give Joselu a chance ey boiz #NUFC
— Ryan (@senorlamb_) August 14, 2017
I won’t b surprised Rafa has joselu ahead of Mitro in the pecking order. A physical fwd who is more mobile and skillful on the ball #nufc

Surely there’s a decent song to made for Joselu. #NUFC

Funny looking at the people commenting on Joselu.Stoke fans seem to be positive he was a decent player but toon fans think he’s dump ? #nufc

Joselu will be signing from Stoke City from Newcastle for £6,000,000 in the next 24 hours #SCFC #NUFC
— Michael Warrington (@MJWarrington) August 14, 2017
Interesting signing for £5m. How many times have we slated players before they’ve kicked a ball for us, but became well-liked? #NUFC ?
— Cliffy (@cliffy_83) August 14, 2017
Stoke fans seemingly disappointed to lose Joselu, yet some of our fans think he’s a “shite” signing? Get behind him maybe? #nufc
— Wayne Roberts (@WayneRoberts_87) August 14, 2017
Lazaar and Gamez were Rafa’s signings so he has to take some blame. Don’t see further incomings after Joselu and Kenedy for #NUFC as such
— Matthew M (@matts_mo) August 14, 2017
Never got a chance at Stoke, he’s had a good pre season, reckon he will do the business #nufc
— Hitmanherbert (@h1tmanherbert) August 14, 2017
#NUFC have a worse squad than we had when we were relegated & now we’re signing Joselu? 4 goals for Stoke since 2015. Rock bottom..literally
— Alexander Woolf (@woolfalexander) August 14, 2017
Alexander – try to look on the bright side – if possible.
“We need a striker”! #NUFC buys a striker, “He’s not cost £30m he must be shit!”
No fucking wonder we’re called fickle!! ??
— Rafa (@El_MagoNUFC) August 14, 2017
Stoke fans in meltdown that they are selling Joselu, some of our fans in meltdown because we are signing him… ? #nufc
— Dan (@DanWalker92) August 14, 2017
And finally …..
Looks like someone’s been at Joselu’s Wikipedia page already #NUFC

Comment #82The simple fact is we can’t compete in this league.
We may as well be in the Championship.
A lot of the biggest teams in English football play there.
The Premiership consists of a big six and the rest.
Many of the rest are teams like Stoke and Bournemouth, who are above their level because TV money is now the main revenue. They are happy to be just part of the rest.
The big clubs play Champions League and use the extra revenue to keep the rest down.
The entertainment value of the Premiership is not what it was.
Is Man City Vs Bournemouth even worth watching. It’s the same story every time. David against Goliath.

Comment #83Tsunki, I was talking to the fans, not you. You just come on here to attack people, ironically, who don’t do as you say. They do say that’s a good diversion – accuse people of doing what you are guilty of. It’s been used for years, you’re nothing special.
You won’t get bored by it because it means you don’t have to talk about football, a subject you lack greatly in. 90% of your posts are a dig at somebody. Hey ho, nothing changes. First post yet again. Boring fart.

You make just way too much sense mate. Your pragmatic approach has widened my perceptions.
You’re right, I spend a ridiculous amount of time being frustrated, angry and depressed, not necessarily in that order and to what end? There is nothing I can personally do to alter the landscape.
At least now, while still layering sufficient amounts of spin and possibly being a bit economical with the truth in his somewhat staged interview, we do know that there is finally some kind of exit strategy for Ashley, even though it may largely be wishful thinking and largely dependent on market forces.

Comment #88Joselu will relish being at his boyhood favourite club, be energised by his move, motivated by Spanish legend Rafa and regain his football mojo.
It’s a shrewd move on our part and bet on him scoring at least two if not a hatrick against Stoke.
We’re still solvent which is more than can be said for Sunderland, Leeds and the like looking into the long term wilderness.
Rejoice, no more negative waves, I can’t handle that anymore !

Comment #89The exit strategy must be to run the club poorly, destroy the trust of the only decent manager we’ve had in the last 10 years, and depress the hell out of the already badly mangled supporters Rotonda mate. That will do wonders for the club’s sale price I’m sure.

I only take a dig at bladder busters like you bobby, lecturing people on what they should think and when they should say it. Save a blood vessel or two and just accept others have opinions and it’s their catharsis to vent them. You’ll live. A bit longer anyway.

Comment #92It’s not a case of negative waves lochinvar mate, it’s the pathetic behavior of wor Ashhole. The man just oozes stupidity. It comes out of every pore. I’ve seen street lamps with more intelligence than this lad. It takes some real mental vacuity to get a club with the support we have relegated twice in 10 years. And to look back at his management hirings is like putting your head into a fire to see if it’s hot…..

It’s not simply a question of complaining about Ashley and his attitude towards the club. We all know that he’s not a fan of the North East and regrets buying a football club.
The thing that gets bloggers riled is that, for an astute businessman, and with a fortune of two billion pounds behind him, he clearly isn’t too shabby as a businessman, he is never looking at the longer picture. The fact that by investing a few millions in Rafa’s judgement now to guarantee that we’ll stay in the PL, he will recoup far more when the PL payments are handed out later in the season.
Is it rocket science ?

Comment #95£210 million for an eighty percent controlling stake in Southampton. Seems like money well invested in a club that can produce young players. The New Southampton owner could already be sitting on £60+ million for Van Dijk. Bertrand is worth a few quid too. The squad value would nearly cover that investment alone.

Comment #96Joselu may not be a top drawer striker but I’m sure Rafa’s got his head screwed on about where he fits in the squad dynamic. I hope he does well – perhaps at this stage of his career he realises that he is running out of opportunities to make a mark. Rafa will be the one to drag something out of him, if it’s there to be dragged.

Comment #97I’m happy to be back in the Prem and to have Rafa as manager for as long as it lasts. The rest is just wishful thinking. That we could have an ambitious owner with less interest in getting pissed and puking into fireplaces and more interest in his football club.

Comment #104Rotunda, pleased you see it that way. What can we do practically? About Ashley? Nothing. About the team? Be the twelfth man. We’ll be needed this season more than ever. That’s where I devote my attention to. Something I can try and influence if only a small amount.
Posada, we can compete mate. We just need to get through this season, then there will be money to spend. From there we can move upwards. The manager and every player wants to be here and we need to get behind them 100%. I think we’ll survive OK.

I don’t think Bobby is being patronising and condescending. I think it’s just a dose of reality.
Getting stressed is really just not worth it
To a man, well perhaps not Jib, but the overwhelming majority would love to see the back of Ashley.
All we can do is support the most successful manager we’ve ever had, simply because Ash won’t.
Ash wants out and that’s first base at least.

52, not a problem mate, if you read my post not one tiny bit of it is in support of that other dick – Ashley, not Tsunki. 🙂 If anyone can come up with a practical – and I mean practical – way of opposing him, I’m all ears. We all want him out after all. We all agree on that. Having supported mainly crap for all my life – and paid for the privilege – nobody wants a better owner more than me mate. But nobody says anything new. ‘Ashley’s a dick’. Yep. No doubt. We know that. But every day for ten years? (whatever). Is there anybody on here who doesn’t know that already? Really?

Comment #117Are you calling wor Hoser Loo a Ho toontaff mate? I mean we’ve barely gotten to know him….. Shouldn’t we give him a chance first? I do like the song though. But we need more seriosity in wor official Hoser Loo song. Let’s get back to the song writing and see what we can come up with. Now….. what else rhymes with Hoser Loo? Hmmmmm. As for Bobby I think he’s a pragmatist. We’ve got the fat lump known as Ashhole so we just have to deal with him. Personally I love insulting the old Ashhole. It just isn’t getting the club further ahead. And that whole “Woe is me I’m a pauper” is something we’ve all heard before from him. It’s what he says when he isn’t busy drinking himself silly.

Comment #118Even with the subs and down to 10 men we did not look too shabby at the back. Mid and attack was a none event and so the signing of a big man up front may help with the long punts up field that we seem to fall back on. Hope the guys up for a bit of head tennis.

Comment #120For goodness sake man reel it in youll do yourself harm – if people want to complain about Ashley, even if it’s old hat and irritating, it is what it is. And the problem is the same as always – I don’t have a problem with differing opinions, but you do. Argue your corner, fine, but why shout everyone down like they are less worthy a fan? You’re a bit high and mighty aren’t you?
