We have to understand that for whatever reason – maybe being down below for a season – Newcastle has very little money to spend, and both Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley are working together closely trying to get the best possible squad together before the end of the month.
And it looks like one of our targets – Joselu of Stoke – is very close to moving to Newcastle with the news in the Stoke Sentinel that he has just passed his medical at Newcastle.
Stoke fans seem to think Joselu is a good player, so we have to get behind these new players in what is going to be a testing season back in the Premier League.
But knowing Rafa’s ability to bring in good players we have a feeling Joselu will be much more mobile than Daryl Murphy – who didn’t have much trouble scoring goals with Rafa’s system last season.
Let’s get right behind Rafa and the players – as Rafa asked us in his press conference on Friday.
Call us stupid (what again?) but we still think we can finish in the top half of the Premier league this season.
We gave Spurs all they could handle yesterday before Jonjo’s madness.
Here are some tweets about Joselu from the Geordie fans.
Yous all called Ciaran Clark shit (including me) and he surprised us all so give Joselu a chance ey boiz #NUFC

I won’t b surprised Rafa has joselu ahead of Mitro in the pecking order. A physical fwd who is more mobile and skillful on the ball #nufc
— bobby martins (@BobbyGoa) August 14, 2017
Surely there’s a decent song to made for Joselu. #NUFC
— MM (@LeafySeaDragon_) August 14, 2017
Funny looking at the people commenting on Joselu.Stoke fans seem to be positive he was a decent player but toon fans think he’s dump ? #nufc

Joselu will be signing from Stoke City from Newcastle for £6,000,000 in the next 24 hours #SCFC #NUFC
— Michael Warrington (@MJWarrington) August 14, 2017
Interesting signing for £5m. How many times have we slated players before they’ve kicked a ball for us, but became well-liked? #NUFC ?
— Cliffy (@cliffy_83) August 14, 2017
Stoke fans seemingly disappointed to lose Joselu, yet some of our fans think he’s a “shite” signing? Get behind him maybe? #nufc
— Wayne Roberts (@WayneRoberts_87) August 14, 2017
Lazaar and Gamez were Rafa’s signings so he has to take some blame. Don’t see further incomings after Joselu and Kenedy for #NUFC as such
— Matthew M (@matts_mo) August 14, 2017
Never got a chance at Stoke, he’s had a good pre season, reckon he will do the business #nufc
— Hitmanherbert (@h1tmanherbert) August 14, 2017
#NUFC have a worse squad than we had when we were relegated & now we’re signing Joselu? 4 goals for Stoke since 2015. Rock bottom..literally
— Alexander Woolf (@woolfalexander) August 14, 2017
Alexander – try to look on the bright side – if possible.
“We need a striker”! #NUFC buys a striker, “He’s not cost £30m he must be shit!”
No fucking wonder we’re called fickle!! ??
— Rafa (@El_MagoNUFC) August 14, 2017
Stoke fans in meltdown that they are selling Joselu, some of our fans in meltdown because we are signing him… ? #nufc
— Dan (@DanWalker92) August 14, 2017
And finally …..
Looks like someone’s been at Joselu’s Wikipedia page already #NUFC

Comment #281magspuggy…I think it was closer to 60% last season but they were all tailored for the Championship…a part from a few that didn’t make sense…
It seems quite a few of them won’t get much playing time this season…
This season I am just not impressed…there’s hardly any experience and a lot of maybes in his buys…
Hopefully Lejeune and Merino will surprise…and Atsu have had a season with us already…

Comment #282Lad lets just give Joselu a chance please ok he was deffo not our number one target by a long chalk but he ses he is a Newcastle supporter and i am sure he will be desperate to prove Mark Hughes wrong. i think its pointless wondering what he will be like playing alongside Mitro because if Rafe were to get a decent offer for Mitro he will be on his way

Comment #283magspuggy…it’s not the expensive players he doesn’t know how to buy…did that well at Liverpool!
…it’s the mid-priced players that are the problem…and that’s what we can afford here sadly ?

I’ll happily eat humble pie if he doesn’t workout but I’ve seen him play quite a few times in Germany and he was very good, problem stoke have is that they are desperate to get saido up and running, Hughes knows he’s wasted millions on players that haven’t worked. Joselu is a good player, he just needs to be to be loved which I’m sure rafa will.
At his age he’s coming into his prime, rafa will never change his formation and those putting out sides with 3 at the back need to realise that, with the injury to Lejeune the last thing rafa will do is risk playing the only 3 real cbs he has.

Comment #292I thought he done well to attract the players he did to play in the championship mate . Its easier to buy expensive players that you know will be a winner . Its a lot harder on wor budget and he has to do well. Sure gonna test his mettle.

Comment #294I notice that Aaron Mooy – he who had “found his level” in the championship and wasn’t good enough for us etc… Is being tipped after one game to be heading to pl pastures new.. 🙂

Comment #295Seen Stoke fans comparing Joselu to Michu and you can see the similarities, hopefully he turns out that good for us and has a fantastic season like Michu did when he first signed for Swansea, cost them £2 million only time will tell

Comment #296There is a general consensus amongst observers within the Football fraternity, that in the course of a football season, the ratio between good luck and bad luck, equalises out.
Should this be the case, we certainly had our share of bad luck last Sunday.
Let’s hope that we have received a big chunk of our ‘bad luck’ ration.
Obviously, as you might guess, my glass is still half done!

Comment #297Southampton part taken over for £210 by Chinese family.
http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40928467
Could this have been the party supposedly interested in buying into NUFC? It’s interesting that they say they like the Southampton way of running the club – could they say the same about the way Ashley’s been running ours? I doubt it.

The commercialisation of the club has been handled very poorly in terms of providing funds towards the first team, despite the lack of world wide appeal in comparison to those PL clubs appearing regularly in the Champions League. Rafa has managed to improve the relationship between the club and the fans but the financial aspects of the club are beyond his control and are of more benefit to Mike Ashley and SD.

Comment #299The new signings Rafa has brought in this window on a shoestring budget all look pretty good thus far. Atsu, though not really a new player for us, was almost a unanimous choice as POTM yesterday. Lejeune before his injury looked very calm and solid. Merino also played well the few minutes he was on and Manqillo did pretty well at RB. So 4 out of the 5 new Rafa signings did a good job! So I am optimistic that Joselu and Kenedy, if they do arrive, will be similarly wise signings by our manager.
The Shelvey mental meltdown really hurt of course, but I am sure nobody fells more disappointed in his actions than he does himself. I really think this Red Card incident will be the catalyst for a real change in his character and maturity and that he will come back an improved player and man. His teammates are sticking by him and I hope we the fans do too!
So many positives to take out of the loss yesterday, despite the 2 injuries and the suspension of Jonjo. In Rafa we trust! HWTL!!!

Comment #300Would have been fun to see if we would have had both Shelvey and Mooy playing for the team.
They could have been like good and evil twin 😀

Comment #301Huddersfield will be a good test for us. To see where we really stand in this division. Excited for the game. If we lose at Huddersfield then we are already in serious trouble.
