Report – Newcastle Could Sign James McCarthy This Week

It’s almost certain that Gylfi Sigurdsson of Swansea will move for a massive £45M to big spending Everton this week.

And there will be further pressure according to the Mail put on Everton to sell some of their existing midfielders such as 26-year-old Republic of Ireland International James McCarthy.

The Mail report is that once Sigurdsson is signed by Everton this week, manager Ronald Koeman will allow McCarthy to join Newcastle.

Newcastle has wanted to sign James McCarthy since back in January, but how we will be able to afford the £25M fee put on James’ head by Koeman,  we have no idea.

Rafa Benitez is a huge admirer of James McCarthy, and Rafa sees him as a player who could be very important to Newcastle in future seasons with his massive experience in the Premier League.

26-year-old James McCarthy – Newcastle target

James is under contract until 2020, and it would be a coup if we can sign him, but we assume it would need to be a loan deal with an option to buy him next year when there will be much more money in the Newcastle coffers.

James has massive experience in England’s top flight, having played over 220 Premier League games for Wigan and Everton combined over the last nine seasons.

There were even reports late in January that Newcastle had bid £16M for the former Wigan central midfielder, but it was turned down.

Last season was a frustrating season for the Glasgow-born player due mainly to him picking up several injuries and the fact that he couldn’t get a starting place in Koeman’s new Everton side when he was fit.

James would be an excellent signing for Newcastle, and we hope we can get him through the door – maybe even this week on loan?

It’s doubtful – but possible.

What do you think?

I thought if we didn’t mention this for long enough it would quietly die. Some chance.

So we have £20 -25m lying around? Would much rather it was invested in a LB (Gibbs) and a CF (Perez)

Aye, the McCarthy story’s surfaced again. Ffs where’s the money gonna come from??

And it’s yet another day gone and still no signings confirmed. We’re a bloody shambles. Rafa must be pulling his hair out.

Ok, we need to offload some of the deadwood to free up some cash and Ashley could help by recruiting them into SD as ambassadors or whatever title he chose to give. The SD shareholders mightn’t be too happy though.

Just thinking about the 80% partial take over of Southampton, it’s notable that the investor has the utmost trust in Southampton’s set up, infrastrucure, strategy and manage my being happy to leave the running of the club to that clubs current management structire.

If Ashley’s looking for substantial investment into NUFC, would anyone in their right mind leave him, Barnes and Charnley to run the Club for them? Mmm, thought not. Rafa and his staff are probably the only ones any investor would trust.

Let’s hope Ashley comes into the real world and sets a sensible valuation of the Club that might attract a buyer or buyers – bearing in mind that we don’t own the freehold to SJP’s site – and let someone else get on with making something of Newcastle United before we sink into oblivion.

As an Irishman, and a life long Ireland and Newcastle fan, i hope to god this story about Mc Carthy is not true, this guy is simply a few very poor player, no pace, not creative in anyway, injury prone, he is the exact same type of a player as Jack Colback, in fact Jack Colback is a better player, i have watched him play for Ireland many times, please please Rafa, dont waste any money in this player. HWTL.

Surely we can’t be thinking about spending all of Ashleys savings on James M?
He’s down to his last 2 billion for goodness sake we simply can’t squander his pension fund on poor midfielders.

This is a nothing story but it’s regularity scares me into thinking it might hold truth!
    Please no.

Joselu & Bryan, OMG how the mighty have fallen. If these are the players we are scraping from the deepest barrel then how on earth are we going to afford McCarthy?
With every signing we make we take a further step backwards towards the Championship and total oblivion, and this time it will be oblivion because Rafa will walk and rightly so. NUFC don’t deserve someone like Rafa, only the supporters of NUFC do.

for a team just promoted, i’m not sure why anyone would want a mass change in the squad, yes some KEY players brought in, i would hope this would be done over both windows for 2 reasons.
1 momentum, we just got promoted and we have this winning mentality throughout the squad, but surely this would be disruptive to change so many,
    2. team spirit , which is linked to no 1 but i think it’s just as important to have people you know and trust around you on the pitch, getting to know how the players around you think and play their games. to much change is never great.

this time around we have a good man manager to help shape things.

i personally think we will be ok with the players we have right now, Joselu will be a welcome addition.

    McCarthy and Koeman have issues
To do with playing for the Republic I think
O’Neill and Koeman don’t like each other and JM gets the backlash
    as does Seamus Coleman.

If bryan is a good young player then its understandable we are trying to sign him, cheaper to buy, cheaper to pay, wont lose much in transfer fee even if he cant make the the grade here, and he appears to fit and injury free majority of the time compared to gibbs..massive signing on fee, massive wage bill, poor injury record and the fee paid for him will be a loss the second he signs.

How the mighty have fallen, I know we have just been promoted but looking at cast off players like McCarthy, Joselu, Wiltshire, Adrian, Really !! Follow this through and we will end up going back down. We already have players of this caliber and can’t get rid of them, I would rather see the youngsters given a chance, oh no, I forgot, we only have them so they can keep going out on loan or move onto a a bigger club where they will given an opportunity. Maybe Rafa should turn up to one of their matches once in a while, cos like the song says – you don’t know what you’ve got till its gone (Lewis Gibson)

It was interesting to read, earlier this week, that Shelvey has been receiving anger management therapy, since he was sent off in the Forest game.

Last season Shelvey received ten yellow cards, and a red card, later rescinded. Six of the ten cards were given after the five match suspension!

Strangely though all of the cards, with the exception of the February 20 game at Villa Park, he received at home matches!

Sunday’s red card, of course, was at SJP. 7 cards, 6 yellow and 1 red in 25 games.

Time to change the anger management therapist, I suggest!

Hmm i doubt Koeman would eject a decent player just because he’s having a barney over his international appearances, any manager with a decent squad will have those club v country arguments. It’s probably more to do with thinking he has had injury issues and is looking replaceable now he has a spending budget.

I don’t think people are having a go at rafa regarding signings or potential signings, bottom line is we have no idea what number these players are on rafa list. They could be last for all we know which means he could have wanted more than a handful before moving for these players.

If anyone is to blame or should shoulder the blame then it has to be the owner
