With 27-year-old Newcastle transfer target Joselu in Newcastle yesterday and passing his medical before a proposed move to the club this week could become a good week for us in the transfer market.
We are also said to be wrapping up the paperwork to get Chelsea left-sided player Kenedy to the club on a season loan deal to augment what is still a relatively ordinary squad for the Premier League., but with four more signings, it could become a decent squad and a good team.
But with four more signings, it could become a decent squad and a good starting team.
And we know once Rafa gets busy both the players and the team will improve and we looked so well organized in that first half against Spurs on Sunday.
To say Rafa knows what he is doing is a massive understatement.
We have been linked with 32-year-old 42 times Greek International goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis for some time now, and there’s news in CalcioNapoli that the goalie will end up in England once he leaves Udinese.
Karrnezis played for Panathinaikos and Granada before moving to Udinese three years ago, and since then he has been a standout for the Italian club.
Orestis has made 110 appearances for Udinese, and his excellent form in Serie A has attracted a number of clubs this summer – the 6ft 3ins tall player looks a very good goalkeeper.
Matz Sels is already on loan at Anderlecht and our third goalkeeper at the club – the talented young Freddie Woodman – needs to go out on loan for the season to get first team games, so we need a third goalkeeper brought in.
That assumes that Tim Krul can be sold this summer with Benfica said to be interested; that would be a great career move for Tim.
Once Tim finally leaves the club Rafa must replace him with a third goalkeeper, and it looks like it could well be Orestis Karnezis.
But Newcastle seems to have competition from Watford and Crystal Palace.
This is what his agent Vasileios Panagiotakis, has said on the Calcio website:
“He’ll play for Watford, Newcastle or Crystal Palace. Links to Napoli are dead.”
Of the three Premier League clubs interested, Karnezis may have a better chance of first team football at the other two clubs with both Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow in good form for Newcastle over the last couple of years.
But we need a third goalkeeper brought into the ranks shortly and as always Rafa has brought in somebody who he thinks will challenge both Rob and Karl for the number one jersey this season.
More competition in the Newcastle team – which is always good.
What do you think?

Comment #4Huddersfields style caught us out last season but to us unlike the rest of the league it’s nothing new.
Rafa will have us ready.
Yes they’ve improved their squad and will be bouncing but we have a point to prove now after the spurs game and there is nothing more dangerous than injured animal.
It’s hoping to be a long season but it’s 1 game, if rafa can get the parts he needs to complete his machine we will do ok.
I’m hoping we see out goings spins because that’s only going to help uspush on.

Comment #5Veltman – caulkin said nothing in the Wilshire link. Kenedy yep just agent stuff. Perez too expensive..i read his price went up.
I’m hoping rafa has a few more gems up his sleeve to complete his overhaul. Including more than 1 striker, a no.10, left back, dm as I never want to see colback or saivet used, Diame needs to be sold too. Goal keeper.
I suspect rafa will only be happy if he gets 2 in every position with the right quality.
Joselu looks like a real all round striker with ability. A powerful shot on him and a great leap.

Comment #6Jack Wilshire would not know how toget anywhere North of Landan. Could you really imagine him and Shelvey in midfield?

Comment #7Just some disquiet over the Kennedy move with some press suggesting (mischievously) that Conte is delaying due to concerns over their squad size . Ha ! tell Costa to get off his arse and back to work.

Atsu didn’t sign until 31st August last year
I think it’s something to do with the loan contract having to run for so many months to take the players registration up to seasons end ( they try to keep contracts under a year for some tax purpose)

Comment #11Rafa seems to want a goalie, fair enough. I would prefer a left back, since we now havent got one. A striker as the one we have doesnt think he can run. A no10 as Perez isnt the answer, little pace, cant dribble, cant pass and terrible under any degree of pressure. We could do.with sime PL experience.
Last thing we needed were injuries and suspensions, typical Newcastle luck and stupidity! Still think we will be ok, but only just.

Comment #12Clark , Gamez and Manquillo can all play left back and we still have Haidara training with the squad.
Not much stupidity there actually

Comment #13Jib I know but wouldn’t it be typical of Rafa and him being thorough to want a better left back. Dummett in my opinion is our only real left back. Haidara injury prone and I’ve never thought he was that good. Clark is no left back. Emergency cover yes. Gamez likely to be gone and yep manquillo can play both sides just not at the same time. So being thorough and getting another left back seems wise. Gibbs would be my choice

Comment #14Haidarra and Gamez are good footballers. Any 2 of Gamez, Mamqillo and Haidarra would do a decent job. Kenedy would be a good addition, but we do have depth at fullback. Assuming we have signed Joselu, I think our next priority is central mid and keeper.

Comment #15Agree to disagree on fullback.
Next priority is still striker or number 10 depending on where Joselu is going play but yet the cm and goal keeper I agree.

Comment #16I think we don’t need another goalie, any effort to sign another is time/money/energy that should be spent on wingers/strikers!
