Benitez Extremely Persistent In Trying to Sign Montenegrin International Striker

When Stevan Jovetic played in England for three years at Manchester City from 2013, after signing on from Fiorentina for £ – things did not go well for him, but he still played 44 games for City with 11 goals and 6 assists.

The 48 times capped Montenegro International (23 goals) went on loan to Inter-Milan on his final year at Manchester City and played 26 games with 6 goals.

Last season he was at Sevilla where he scored 7 goals and 5 assists in 24 appearances for the La Liga side, so he has had plenty of football over the last four seasons.

The news is that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is keen on the 27-year-old as reported in Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

But the Montenegrin is not anxious to return to England again after his experience at Manchester City, and it seems Rafa will have some convincing to do to attract the talented striker to Newcastle United.

27-year-old Inter and Montenegrin International striker Stevan Jovetic

Maybe we could bring Stevan Jovetic in on loan for the season with an option to buy him for Newcastle next year – that would be a good (cheap) deal for the Tyneside club.

Rafa is said to be very persistent in pushing for a deal for the 27-year-old striker.

And a Newcastle delegation led by Managing Director Lee Charnley may yet travel to Italy to try to tie up a deal.

Rafa Benitez is reported anxious to want this deal completed to give Newcastle a second new striker this summer.

Inter want around €14M (£12.8M) for a permanent transfer for the Montenegrin, and with today’s prices that may even be a good deal for Newcastle.

Remember watching him and thinking he got bullied off the ball at Citeh far too easily. Unless he has learned to deal with that, my answer would be no thanks.

Our Toon, I would disagree with that mate. At least our lot would fight for the ball a bit (in the most part anyway), and not dive to the ground with their hand in the air looking at the ref over a fair challenge.

I always thought he was a better footballer than he was a striker- as in, I don’t think he’ll ever score loads of goals but would be great in a two or playing as a no.10.

Would prefer we go for Lucas Perez of Arsenal. Strong quick and a clinical finisher. At the same price too.

Suarez is probably the worst for diving whether its a fair challenge or not, not comparing suarez with jovetic but comparing your strange comment to it. Would Suarez not be good enough for us either?

It’s all good running around and showing fight upfront but you need quality as well, Sunday should have proved that as we managed to get our first shot at goal after a man was sent off. Plenty of players work hard but without quality they are more likely to lose more games than to win.

As for Jovetic whether the news story is true or not he would fill the void at no10

    Re Colback

Steve Bruce is keen to be reunited with Jack Colback this summer, as Aston Villa lead the race to sign the Newcastle United midfielder. The Gazette has learned that there has been contact between the two sides, with talks initiated before the Magpies returned to pre-season training in July. Talks have been on and off since then but Villa are now primed to ramp up their bid to land the former England youth international after a difficult start to life in the Championship.

Hibbit – I had read that Bruce had been given three games to turn their poor start to the season round. By the time Charnley negotiates A move for Colback he might find a new manager like Steve McClaren there to open the door . Mind the hair please.

    hibbit,
I think we’ll see him and Hanley leave before the end of August, I wonder how our bargain basement signings sit with Rafa in the long term, I honestly believed we would be getting huge upgrades on five key positions. I wasn’t expecting us to pull up trees but was expecting more than just a quest for survival, I wonder what goes on in Ashleys head. He’s thought what do those lot want, I’m giving a manager 5M a year and they want players as well, they can’t have it both ways. Unless things change by next summer I think Rafa will see out his two years and be off, it will be a hell of a struggle in his last season as all the players will know he’s going as well, look at the way Arsenal imploded last season with all the Wenger speculation, why couldn’t he have just loaned us the money he’ll loan us if we’re in the clarts in January. JimmySmith keeps lauding Ashley for pulling us out of the shite, he wouldn’t keep having to if he spent the money at the right time.

I’m starting to think Rafa will be gone long before that, they couldn’t make things any harder for him I’m actually starting to think they want him to fail, otherwise they would be falling over trying to help not putting up road blocks at every turn
i heard on Sunday that we have had offers for the out of favor players but Charnley /Barnes turned them down without even discussing it with Rafa
so many stories going round it’s now hard to pick out the truth

I reckon we had nigh on 48 million.7.1 for winning championship and 40.9 for parachute payment. All the other money seems to be a mystery.Going by the way Raffa is having to juggle the money and get a pair of mole grips on Harry Hills nuts it could be right.

So Hoser Loo got the number 21 shirt? Excellent. I hope that matches the number of goals he gets this season. Jovetic? I don’t think so. Are we going to hear more from the blundering fool Ashley in the press? Who knows? It depends on how drunk he gets.

Most if not all of the parachute payment probably went to funding last season, along with any TV money and a couple of the Sissoko payments. There is no real war chest to speak of. We are spending the little we have. What is it now, a 23M net spend? If and it’s a big if, we can sell a few for actual money such as Krul and Colback we might scrape together another 10M for a player or two. That’s it. No Jovetic, no Perez unless Ashley suddenly starts listening to Rafa if we lose to Hudders and get knocked out of the cup by Forest.

Oh and if we get schlepped by West Ham as well. If we lose our first 4 including the cup match you might see Ashley wake up. I don’t think it will happen because Rafa will organize what we have and we only have 3 injuries so far but if it does happen we might see more transfer activity.

Scored one in four games while at city, often as a sub. Assisted another 6. So directly responsible fo 17 goals in 44 games, (not all full games). Who was the last of our players to do something like that in the premiership? I sometimes wonder if ANY player is going to be good enough for some people.

It’s a bit ominous that Lejeune has no return date on physio room. How bad is it then? Just ankle injury listed. If it’s ligaments it might be quite a while. Not good.

Jovetic is definitely good enough Markaccus mate. I just don’t think he wants to come and Ash doesn’t want to fork out the cash and a decent wage. He wants another underachiever for small money and a relatively small wage. He hasn’t changed a bit in 10 years even after 2 relegations. The man is hopeless. He’s hoping Rafa will provide a miracle by getting us into the top 10 and then I bet he will actually try to sell us again.

Rafa needs a clean sweep to really have impact. That means Charnley out and Ashley on the sidelines actually helping us. We’re not trying to match Man City in spending Ashcrack, we’re trying to build a decent side, and that takes some money. Certainly more than 23M after a season in the Champo.

Not that I’m overseen on jovetic but given that fatty includes wages as part of transfer deal we’re probably overdrawn already hence needing to sell

One decent player costs 23M now and we’ve got 6 in don’t we? It’s hilarious. Even counting the player sales we should be spending at least 20M more to get off to good start in the Prem again. No wonder Rafa keeps complaining. Two weeks to go. Wake up Ashley.
