Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy are reporting that Genoa is getting closer to a deal to sign Newcastle left-back Achraf Lazaar for around €3.5M (£3.2M)
The 25-year-old has not impressed at the Tyneside club, and he was unable to nail down a first team spot last season in the Championship and appeared only 9 times for the first team.
His future certainly lies away from Newcastle, and it could be that he returns to the Italian League where he played for Palermo before joining Newcastle last August for around £3M.
Achraf could be one of the first players who are surplus to requirements finally leave Newcastle this summer after both Daryl Murphy (Nottingham Forest) and Kevin Mbabu (Young Boys) left about a month ago.
25-year-old Achraf Lazaar – could be leaving Newcastle
Genoa is ready to make a move for the Moroccan International – but only if their 24-year-old left-sided player Uruguayan International Diego Laxalt leaves the club.
They see Lazaar as a good replacement because of his experience of playing three full seasons for Palermo when he appeared 76 times with three goals for the Serie A side.
The hope is that the transfer fee Rafa gets for Lazaar can be used this summer to bring in more players to the Tyneside club.
But there are now only two weeks left in the summer transfer window.
