With the players Newcastle has already missed out on this summer, Rafa Benitez doesn’t think it’s possible for us to have a good transfer window.
But if we can bring in say four more decent players this summer then the boss thinks it can be a better transfer window.
Obviously, Rafa is not happy with what’s happened behind the scenes this summer.
There are at least two things that we think have upset him.
The first is he didn’t get the money he was promised by owner Mike Ashley during their meeting in early May.
The second is that very early in the window we missed out on some of our targets – like Tammy Abraham.
And that was because we were trying to penny-pinch and save on agents fees – and we lost out on the player.
Rafa Benitez – could surprise us still in the window
Rafa has been talking about the transfer window, and he does say some of the players we are now after are not in the papers and therefore there could be a few surprises for Newcastle fans before September rolls around.
This is what Rafa has said as reported in the Chronicle:
“Yes, I think it will be until the end because you have teams with massive money and a lot of teams without money.”
“So these teams, everybody is waiting until the last minute, maybe, to put you in a position where you have to sell players cheaply and then you are maybe trying to do the same – it depends.”
“Some of the names that we are considering now have not been in the press, so maybe there could be a surprise for you,”
“We have done some deals during the last year and a half that nobody knew about.”
“We had been working on those players maybe for months in some cases and nobody knew.
“You have a couple of names in the press and an agent knows, and maybe he is feeding a good journalist sometimes and then it starts creating a mess.”
“We could have a better window, I would say. When you have what you have and you have missed what you have missed, you can try to improve.”
“But it cannot be ideal.”
The loan move for Chelsea’s Kenedy seems ready to happen once Chelsea gives the OK for the deal after they have brought in one or two reinforcements of their own.
And we travel to Huddersfield for the early afternoon game tomorrow – and hopefully, we can get a win – but that will not be easy.
