The Mail is reporting today that Newcastle should be able to tie up the season-long loan deal of Kenedy from Chelsea which has been in the works for a few months now, and the 21-year-old Brazilian will be the seventh signing of the summer.
But the report also says that Newcastle will have to wait until the end of the month to see whether Chelsea will allow their striker and former Newcastle target Michy Batshuayi go out on loan for the season.
Chelsea Technical Director Michael Emenalo is trying to bring in some reinforcements up front before the Premier League Champions allow Kenedy and others to leave the club.
Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi – available on loan?
But we weren’t aware that Newcastle was even in the running for Batshuayi and before we get carried away there will be some big clubs want him on loan this season if he does become available.
However, it would be a coup if Rafa could pull this one off and get Michy on loan for the season with an option to buy him next year.
Certainly, he would get lots of first-team starts and playing-time if he did join the Magpies and Michy himself would want that since he’s played precious few minutes for Chelsea since his move from Marseille for £33M last summer.
The other problem for Newcastle, even with the loan move, is that Batshuayi’s wages are very high and we suppose Chelsea would have to pay some of his wages if he did end up on Tyneside.
That doesn’t auger well for even the loan move since other richer Premier league clubs would be able to afford all his wages.
Rafa is still after another striker even after signing Joselu from Stoke City last week and we still have only three strikers with Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic being the other two.
Rafa and Lee Charnley will be working right until the very last day of this summer’s transfer window and we still need to sign another striker.
Michy Batshuayi on loan with an option to buy him next year would be perfect.
