Newcastle has a lot of work to do in the last eight days of the transfer window, and it could even be a hectic final day of the window when we could move players out and move some players in on 31st August.
With just over a week left we still haven’t moved players like Tim Krul, Achraf Lazaar, Emmanuel Riviere, Grant Hanley, Jack Colback, Sadio Haidara and Henri Saivet.
That’s seven players that are surplus to requirements who are still on the wage bill with just over a week left in the window.
Dennis Praet – one of our transfer targets
Here’s some of what Rafa said yesterday as reported in the Shields Gazette:
“We are expecting players to come. We are trying to move players in, but at the same time we are trying to move players out,”
“It will be different on Sept 1, 100%.”
“I don’t know if relief is the word. But I have said before that it’s not fair to have players around that next week might be in another team and nobody knows what is going on.”
“It depends, you can’t say for certain this player will go, maybe he doesn’t like the other team or maybe they don’t offer the money.”
“It’s not so easy to know how many of this five or six will go.”
“Players in? When you start talking about names at the end of the window, the other clubs think that English teams have a lot of money so the prices go higher and higher.”
“And maybe you can’t pay them money they are asking for or maybe you are looking for a player they don’t want to sell.”
Some of the transfer targets we are after include Kenedy from Chelsea on a season loan, Dennis Praet from Sampdoria, and Pepe Reina from Napoli.
Those three players would be excellent additions to the squad, but we still need another striker brought in so we can score those goals which was also a weakness of ours last season.
What do you think?
