This Could Be Rafa’s Starting Eleven Against Forest Tonight

It’s going to be difficult to forecast what the starting eleven will be tonight for the second round of the Carabao Cup against in-form Nottingham Forest.

But Rafa will give some of his fringe players a start, but we seem a bit short in the back four with both Dummett and Lejeune still being unfit until next month.

We think it’s a perfect time to give young Freddie Woodman a boost and give him his first ever competitive appearance for the first team tonight.

Karl Darlow is presumably now surplus to requirements with Newcastle willing to listen to offers for him, which we still find strange given his good form last season.

Siem de Jong – could get start tonight

This could be the starting eleven tonight:

Woodman
Manquillo Hanley Clark (c) Gamez
Colback Merino
Aarons De Jong Murphy
Joselu

Some changes to that team could be Mo Diame for Siem de Jong and Aleksandar Mitrovic for Joselu up front.

Massadio Haidara could also be in one of the full back spots – maybe left back with Gamez switching over to right back.

What would your team be for tonight?

Can’t believe Hanley, colback, de jong will be anywhere near squad again…gamez too. Haidara as well. I think youth has more of a chance imho.

If the team is too “experimental” we’ll probably lose. Not good for morale.

“Newcastle face West Ham today, having lost their first three matches since promotion to the PL.” I don’t want to read that!

Looks like Ashley the gambler is not prepared to go all in and have a go. We’re back to the good old days whereby 17th or better is just fine so long as Sports Direct is splashed all over the world via the ground and interview advertising.

He’s got no money to buy players but enough to increase his shareholding in Debenhams to 21%. What you must remember with Ashley is it’s always about the money and if his lips are moving he’s lying.

Mike Ashley will never have us competing for anything because he knows it costs too much to be competitive. Happy with mediocrity so long as his brand is transmitted round the world.

God awful cancerous owner if there ever was one.

“To be honest, none of those 3 players would make the difference we need. Still scratching around looking for mediocre bargain buys ”

    As I have said before
I’m cursed with an excellent memory
    hence:-

Sav – you called Andros Townsend a Tottenham reject before we signed him – then 7 months later reproached Señor Benitez for letting him go .

Just wait and see , before slagging players off , before they have kicked a ball for NUFC.

If De Jong is about to leave for Ajax then surely they won’t risk playing him tonight.
Sounds like Rivière may also be outward bound.
Expect a mix of first team and youth tonight.

Ron – as it stands I see us losing to West ham. Not because of our performance because they’ve got a striker who can score goals…exactly what we are missing.
Sounds like lazaar will play tonight which is interesting.
The youth i was thinking of was the ex arsenal defender playing for our u23 can’t think of his name. Woodman in the nets and maybe that young u23 striker Fernandez is it. The rest of expect to be first team. Aaron’s, Murphy, merino, saivet, manquillo, mbemba, Joselu…lazaar. there’s your xi with a good chance.

I’d written off the August fixtures a while ago. I expect/hope/pray September will be better.

The thing I think the press miss is that Ashley only seems to have a financial interest in keeping us in premier league to advertise SD so no concern on position outside that.
Having no footballing interest in the club is why we are held back. He even admitted he’s a Chelsea fan.

Jib #9, you are replying on the wrong thread and your marvellous memory is mistaken. Everyone knows Townsend decided to go. But to the point, are you arguing we should ‘wait and see’ with 8 days left to rescue the situation? Are you arguing that Reina, Kenedy and Praet are the top players we need? That is not ‘slagging anybody off’. Cast your memory back and you will recall plenty quotes of the same kind of ‘wait and see’ BS variety from Carver, Pardew, McLaren and company. It isn’t good enough.

Quite a few things wrong with your team Ed.

I would be very surprised if the club selected a player (De Jong definitely and possibly Gamez and Colback) in a game knowing they are about to be sold.

Notwithstanding Colbacks possible departure why have two left footed midfielders ?

Why play Hanley when Lascelles and Mbemba (especially) need game time to get to peek game fitness as it will be they who are likely to face West Ham.

Psychologically, Benitez should play almost the same team that played on Sunday to prove to themselves and the fans that they can compete and win which would give a huge boost to their confidence ahead of the game against West Ham.

I would play a 4-3-3 formation with Ritchie withdrawn into midfield to add some inventiveness. I would sub Mitrovich in the second half for Joselu. I would also sub either Atsu or Murphy for Aarons.

    Elliott
    Manquillo – Lascelles – Clark – Mbemba
    Ritchie – Hayden – Merino
    Murphy – Mitrovich – Atsu

Was a bit worried for tonights match, but Prutton predicts 0-1 so we should be fine! My money is on Gayle grabbing two, he should play (at least one half) to start his season – he’s been very poor so far.
