This Would Be A Risky Exit From Newcastle At Late Stage In Transfer Window

It seems that Rafa Benitez could still be interested in moving out Aleksandar Mitrovic in the next week, but we’d be shocked if that happens with Newcastle having so little cover at striker.

We basically have new signing Joselu in addition to Dwight Gayle who regularly picks up hamstring strains during the season, so it’s unlikely he will be fully fit for the whole season.

So it’s a surprise if Rafa does sell Mitro or send him out on loan with only a week left in this transfer window, but there’s news today in Gazzetta dello Sport that Hellas Verona may be keen on him.

Verona is managed by former Newcastle coach Fabio Pecchia who knows Rafa very well, and they are reported to talk by telephone today about the possible transfer.

That could be a loan deal, but unless Newcastle has another striker ready to come in, it would seem to be a dangerous move to allow Mitrovic to go out at this late stage in the transfer window.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – could be sent out on loan?

Newcastle paid around £14M for Mitrovic two years ago and will not be willing to take less than that in a straight transfer, and we doubt that Verona has that kind of money available.

Mitro scored an opportunist goal last night in our embarrassing 3-2 defeat in the League Cup by Nottingham Forest.

It would seem a remote possibility that Rafa will allow the 22-year-old Serbian International to leave Newcastle so late in this transfer window.

What do you think?

If Rafa has gone and signed Joselu as a replacement for Mitrovic he is getting my vote for the sack. A distinct demonstration that he doesn’t know what he doing it would be. Can’t see this being true. Hope this talk is rubbish. Still have trust in Rafa, but only just.

Fcuking give over man! Mitro ain’t going anywhere. He’s the only forward that can score 😆

I would keep Mitro in preference to any of our current strikers, especially Perez – who is a waste of a squad number at this level.

I would like to see Ritchie in the hole. His lack of pace and unwillingness to take people on because of this makes wide play that he’s involved in get very predictable (get the ball, give the ball and move into space to whip the return pass into the box)… We have an absolute clatter of wingers now and Ritchie has the skill set to open teams up from the centre… Better than 20 odd mil on Praet!

Christ mitro the only striker who can score. is this the same player that was useless last season in both his hold up play and finishing while Gayle seemed to finish everything that come his way? We are not getting the time in the middle of the park to find Gayle so he has become very ineffective in this set up and need to play a target man. Joselu linked up the team against Huddersfield more than I have ever seen mitro do in a season and so he has to start on Saturday.

we are screwed if we dont sign a high quality no10 as its blatant that until we have someone playing in between the lines who is comfortable in tight spaces we are screwed. Richie would be my choice to fill that role but in reality we need a ready made high quality player to come in.

Ritchie in the hole wouldn’t be for me. Generally need to be strong on the ball and good in tight spaces. But another argument could be you need to have pace and be involved in counter attacks but I think he’s good at that from the wing.

C-dog Richie is good in tight spaces and he is faster than a lot of world class cams such as silva etc. He has a powerful shot on him from outside the box but I have doubts about his ability to pick a pass and be creative which is why I dont think he is the long term answer.

From a previous thread Rotonda pointed out that Ashley had agreed to move out the mediocre players and upgrade the team. Apparently he has since reneged on the deal.

How can it possibly be Ashley’s responsibility to move out the mediocre players which we obviously need to do to make space in the squad. He doesn’t involve himself in those things and as much as we would all expect him to fund the clubs transfers more ambitiously surely we can’t blame him for nor being able to sell our crap players.

Can’t believe that Rafa would sell Mitro a physical goal scoring striker who wants passionately to wear the toon shirt and emulate his hero Shearer just to attempt to recoup £15m to allow the part purchase of a midfielder such as Wiltshire or Barkley who’s off to Spuds by the look of things anyway.

Nor is he likely to be kowtowing to Ashley and certainly not Charnley so these decisions seem to be with Rafa.

Joselu is cover and not the main man surely as you need at least two strikers to compliment the lighter more agile Perez and Gayle of this world.

Being a Bank holiday weekend lets make sure that Kenedy is in the shirt for tomorrow latest and ideally Reina
and two or three others possibly Praet ( nick off Everton ) pdq.

    Betty @ 9

According to the press at the time Benitez met Ashley (and possibly Charnley) and requested total control of all transfers (in and out). This was granted and presumably it accompanied an amount of money.

So if Benetez can’t shift people out the door he cannot blame anyone else as he surely must have known the wage structure and conditions of all the players on the club’s books.

Similarly, if he cannot buy the players he wanted and presumably had talked to Ashley and/or Charnley about the figures involved he can’t start whinging unless the money promised at the meeting has subsequently been withdrawn. If so, he should walk and nobody would blame him.

Slank- there is the amount of money he was told and there is the amount of money he was actually given. From his interviews it’s clear Ashley has gone back on what he told rafa. He’s been proven to be a liar in court over king kev.

Unless we sign 4 or 5 key players before the window shuts I see us going down.

I don’t see anyone buying us as Ashley will price them out of a sale. He’s only going to sell at a profit. Why throw away his free advertisement.

The ridiculous thing is if he loaned the club enough to buy 4 or 5 quality players in I only see the club going from strength to strength under rafa. Anything else is asking to be relegated. We are toothless.
