Newcastle Make Move For 29-Year-Old Striker Target

Newcastle were interested earlier this summer in Leicester City’s Algerian striker Islam Slimani, who cost the Foxes £29M last summer on a five-year deal, but didn’t have a good time of it in the league last season.

He played 31 times in all competitions scoring 10 goals and getting 5 assists, and it seems that Leicester City are willing to sell him if they can get near the money they paid Sporting Lisbon for him.

The Mirror are reporting both Newcastle and Watford are interested in signing the 52 times capped Algerian International (26 goals) who scored two goals for Leicester City in their 4-1 win in the League Cup at Sheffield United last Tuesday night.

It’s unlikely that Newcastle can sign him permanently this summer since we don’t have the money.

So it seems the best we can hope for is a season loan deal with an option to buy next year when we should have more money in the coffers.

Islam Slimani scores last season against West Brom

The 6ft 2ins striker would certainly add to the goalscoring prowess at Newcastle, which we badly need before the transfer window closes next Thursday night.

10 goals and 5 assists in 31 games last season is not too bad either, and we think the Algerian striker could do well at Newcastle if we can sign him on loan for the season.

These final five days of the transfer window will be vital for Newcastle to fortify our squad with at least four new players brought in and a number of players moved out.

Is it a loan deal or full transfer? If it id the former then is that code for, back-up option?

If Slimani is a target which seems unlikely does that mean that Perez isn’t coming or will he be our last minute Sky Sports exclusive at the midnight hour ?

According to this report it looks like Ashley is not committed to the club and that Rafa’s plans for a high flying successful Premier League team, new Training Ground and Investment into Academy facilities and team have been trodden into the ground. Is it just a question of who blinks first , Rafa because he’s been shafted or Ashley because he’s sold up to the Chinese or an Arab state. If it’s the latter then Rafa can stay and have the money to deliver a future nirvana. Let’s hope it’s that.

Rafa Benitez says he is not looking too far into the future
Rafael Benitez has admitted he is not implementing a long-term project at Newcastle as he attempts to prove to owner Mike Ashley that football has to be the priority.

The 57-year-old has been dismayed at the club’s relative lack of transfer activity this summer and is still hoping for significant movement both in and out as he attempts to re-shape his squad for life in the Premier League.

However, despite having re-affirmed his commitment to the club despite a testing few weeks, he admits he can think no further ahead than the current season at the moment.

Benitez said: “My aim is trying to improve things so when I leave – whenever it is – I would like to be sure that the team and the football club will be better.

What in your wisdom makes you think that Tuchel, Gaultier etc will come here and manage after yet another manager has been hung out to dry. Do you honestly believe that when Ashley and Rafa met for those talks that Rafa would have emerged from them buzzing about our bright future if he’d known that all the money we can generate would only amount to what we’ve spent. Would the manager have had to publicly state that he hopes Ashley can keep his word. It seems very strange that you choose to believe a proven liar and someone often mentioned as one of football’s worst owners over a man still idolised in Liverpool for the charity work he still does.

Can you really have it both ways. Last year you wouldn’t give the manager any credit because we had by far the most superior squad, now it consists of Rafas crap signings, which one is it?

honest do you believe a Chinese consortium or arab state would give Ashley what he wants for our club your dreaming, the club is worth about 210 million if that, the club doesn’t own its own ground much to ashleys disappointment when he found out, Ashley doesn’t have a choice really he has to sell because really hes taking the micky for the past 10 years with his free advertising ect ect ect and says he has no money to give to the team but has a load of money to buy land and other companies at our expense plus the way hes treated managers at the club is a damn disgrace and hes put our club through the mud a number of times so do us a favour Ashley just sell up and piss off

There’s a start for everything they say!

Morning lads! Haven’t been on for a few days…the missus gave birth to a beautiful girl named Ellie Thursday at midnight…

She was born at home but had some minor respiratory difficulties that has to monitored so we went straight to the hospital. Everything is fine, but she needs to be under surveillance the weekend over at least!

Just wanted to share the situation!

You can’t sell a PL when the windows is closed…if anyone were to buy the club then they would want to make their own impact on the summer dealings…

Ashley is going nowhere but I think those reporting he’s not committed are bang on the dollar!

If Chelsea get Lorente, Slimani could well go to Swansea. He did score some vital goals in his debut season, but I have my doubts that he would be a good purchase.

I can not believe Watford have basically got all my preferred transfers – Carillo, Hughes, A. Grey. I will not be supporting a second team and I hope we can finish above them, but I will be keeping an eye on them.

I’ve said all summer that Slimani is who I thought we’d sign, especially when Leicester signed ihenacho.

We’ve been linked with about 200 players with 194 of them being false so no reason to excited by this. But I’d love it if we were to get Slimani. He seems exactly what we need.

    Congratulations Jesper, get some sleep.

    Jail @ 5

‘..when Ashley and Rafa met for those talks that Rafa… if he’d known that all the money we can generate would only amount to what we’ve spent…’

It would have only taken Rafa a single phone call to the club’s accountant / finance director to find out what the budget figures were for money generated.

He may not have known the figures prior to the meeting but soon thereafter, on the day, he could have compared the estimated money generated with the estimated transfer costs of the players on his wish list.

If he wasn’t happy, he had choices. He could have changed his wish list to match the budget figures (sounds like that is the case). He could have asked for another meeting and fought his case (perhaps he did who knows). He could have resigned and few, if any, would have disagreed with his actions.

Rafa is not some rookie manager in his first managerial role. He is an experienced and respected manager who has been around the block with some tough and very demanding owners known worse than those at Real Madrid.

What I find distressing and very disappointing is his behaviour in words and body language that has been picked up by fans, pundits and players. This observation is manna from heaven for the pundits and journalists to have yet another go at our club. I hope he isn’t trying to copy the antics that Mourinho got up to at Chelsea by forcing the club to sack him.

I’ve said it before that he should ‘shape up, shut up or ship out’.

What’s required is a resounding win against the hammers and to start the climb into more positive territory in action and words. He rests my whinge.

Deja vu The Christmas window in the Championship last season, we were all waiting in anticipation to see who Rafa would bring in to give us that final thrust back up to the Prem. Zilch, nothing . Ashley took a big gamble that Rafa would get us over the line with what he had. Less than a week to go NOW, till the end of the window , no nailed on good players in the pipeline, this time I think Ashley is gambling that Rafa can stave off relegation with what he has. TBH I think Ashley wants Rafa to walk because Rafa has done his job getting us back in the Prem. I think Ashley want’s to resume normal service by installing another “Wing and a prayer manager” Ashley can’t do with Rafa’s ambitious club caper upsetting the apple cart.
