Our Man of the Match poll is currently extremely close with Mikel Merino and Matt Ritchie both on 37%
of the vote at the time of writing.
Matt had another one of those games when he was not only excellent up front for us and had an assist, but he worked his socks off for the cause.
We’re a little bit used to this great play from the former Bournemouth player, and he’s been just a terrific acquisition for us and the fans just love the lad.
Mikel Merino put in another convincing display for the side in the middle of the park, and by his own reckoning, he’s starting to get to grips with the Premier League.
This lad could be a great player for us at the end of the season if he keeps learning from Rafa and putting in performances like this.
Mikel Merino congratulates scorer Joselu after the first goal of the season
His through ball to Atsu out on the left that led to the first Newcastle goal of the season was a joy to watch.
It’s too close to call at the moment so if you haven’t voted yet – please do.

Think we both agree on what happened, but the bone of contention is the ‘chicken flap’/elbow movement. I have been ‘air barging’, and my conclusion is that the action to shoulder and push someone over, is the ‘chicken flap’. As lawyer for the defence, I would point out Mitro’s immediate pointing out to the ref that it was a shoulder barge. Also I don’t consider Mitro to be a ‘nasty’ player like Shelvey; I think him an aggressive, bullying type of player, with the intent to dominate and unsettle players, but not to petulantly hurt them.
I rest my case.

If this were a court case the judge wouldn’t need to ask for a majority verdict as it would bea unanimous guilty verdict
Look at it man,and he is a dirty player the amount of times he has left his foot in is disgraceful and he hasn’t even played loads of games
The worst of it is Lanzini had done nothing prior to to this assault to provicate his actions
We already have one idiot in Shelvey
I rest my case

I hear you and I for one would be happy if we hear no more of it.
For me it’s the intent, the ball has gone and no reason at all to do anything other than go towards where the ball is or take up his position up front.
Chicken flap ! I love it – would be scratching my head explaining to a jury though never mind ‘his Lordship ‘
Cheers for the craic and fingers crossed no ban.
