Newcastle Have New International Striker Target In Their Sights

The Daily Star are reporting today that Newcastle are ready to make a move to sign 27-year-old Icelandic international forward Vidar Orn Kjartansson.

Kjartansson plays for Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv at the moment, and he scored 24 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for his club side last season.

The report says that Newcastle had some of their scouts at Maccabi’s Europa League game against Rheindorf Altach earlier this month, and in that match, Kjartansson scored the only goal of the game.

In his club career, the 6ft 1 ins striker scored 173 goals in 331 total appearances so this player can score goals.

And if Rafa is really interested in signing the player he must think he can get the best out of him at Newcastle in the Premier League.

Kjartansson has played 14 times for Iceland, and the Star is reporting that he would cost as much as £8M.

The player has a good goalscoring record wherever he has played in his 10-year playing career, but whether he could make the significant step up to the Premier League is a good question.

Newcastle are not the only team interested in signing the player, and there are also other Premier League clubs and even Championship sides interested in signing the player this week.

Certainly, we should be able to afford the £8M it would take to sign the Icelandic striker, and we certainly need one more striker brought in this week.

Comments welcome.

Yeah, he looks great. They’ll probably pull the trigger on him too as he could end up being worth 4 or 5 times more than that with a decent season behind him.

I think Gayle stock is still quite high, he won’t cut it in the PL with our current set up and believe it’s best to cash in on him, get someone in on loan. 37 points to safety.

Like Jail I always remember the international break being a bad time for us as Ashley makes stupid decisions. It gives him a 2 week window to calm the natives, I hope this break goes well for us for a change

Like you, im not convinced by gayle at this level and tbh his head seems distracted for one reason or another so selling him now as long theres a replacement or 2 would make sense…thats not to say if he stayed i would be on his case,he deserves a any player, but i have my doubts.

I reckon we’ll keep Gayle. He’s got something different to offer. He’s just short on confidence right now.

Although Gayle may not be a good premiership starter, he surely is an excellent impact substitute. He’s well worth keeping just for that. Every team needs one of those.

Gayle isn’t good enough in my book, he will not get the space in the prem he needs. i would not be sorry if he went

I am from Norway and he used to play for Vålerenga an average club in Norway. Yes he did become top scorer, but he is not a very mobile striker. I reckon Mitro ,Joselu and Gayle would bash in at least 30 goals in Norway. I do not know much about Israel football, but i can’t see it being very good. He is not a starter in the Iceland national team. 8 million is waaaay to much for this guy.
