Rafa’s Plan On This Policy Starting To Benefit The Newcastle Side

Rafa Benitez has always been keen on having competition for places at every single position in the Newcastle side.

And the manager wants to bring in another goalkeeper, left-back, winger, and striker this week before Thursday night at 11:00 pm to further increase the competition for places in the Newcastle side.

And after Newcastle’s excellent showing and 3-0 result against West Ham on Saturday we cannot see Rafa making many changes at all to that side that played so well and worked so hard for our terrific morale lifting victory.

Jonjo Shelvey should be back from his three match suspension, and impressive center-back Florian Lejeune should be fully recovered from his ankle injury.

But we’d surprised if either player makes an immediate return to the side, and we expect both of them to start the next game in south Wales on the bench.

Isaac Hayden – improving all the time at Newcastle

Ciaran Clark and captain Jamaal Lascelles have played really well in the last couple of games in central defense, and they play well together and have a good understanding.

And youngsters Isaac Hayden and Mikel Merino both had good games in central midfield, and both are likely to keep their places at Swansea in our next game after the two-week International break.

Rafa has talked about Isaac who still has plenty of room for improvement, but he’s already a much better player now than when he was signed from Arsenal last summer.

This is what Rafa has said today as reported in the Chronicle:

“Isaac is working hard to improve as well.”

“One of the main things you try and teach them is their understanding of the game – to have the compassion and commitment to know what to do in every situation.”

“The game plan was to work very hard and in two or three things they were crucial in that.”

“The plan was to stop West Ham doing their job and they did that very well.”

“Still I think Hayden has plenty of improvement left in him. He has the potential and is still a young player.”

“He will need time but he will improve.” “I would also like to win with Shelvey in the team!”

“It was important that every player and those that came from the bench that if you play well the next player has to do the same.”

“That’s perfect for the team.” “And for sure he will have to fight for his place back when the team plays like that.”

“Now they will have a chance to relax and we will see how they compete in training.”

Like you, im not convinced by gayle at this level and tbh his head seems distracted for one reason or another so selling him now as long theres a replacement or 2 would make sense…thats not to say if he stayed i would be on his case,he deserves a chance..like any player, but i have my doubts.

I think it would be unfair to break the partnership of Lascelles and Clarke if they’re keeping clean sheets. But if Lejuene is really that much better than them it would be foolish to leave him on the bench.

    SPRINGY,
Just wish it would hurry up and shut so we know where we’re at. I think if Rafa is still here after the first week in September he’ll be here for the season at least.

@Lochinvar – think its more Leeds are interested in Gayle than Gayle looking to move to Leeds..
Can see him going though, there was rumours that Newcastle were offering him up for 20m back as far as June, seems he’s Rafas David Kelly..
Cant see us signing this Icelandic guy, smacks of someone trying to generate interest.. reckon for sure we’ll bring in 4 OR 5…one being Kenedy, the other possibly being Tagliafica… Got a feeling we’ll get Praet and Reina in the end too and apparently we’re favourites for Slimani on loan…
Hypothetically If our total summer business is Reina, Manquillo, LeJeune, Tagliafica, Kenedy, Merino,Atsu, Murphy,Praet and Slimani should that see Rafa happy with the squad for the season?

There’s only three days left now isn’t there and Mike’s been very honest and told us there’s no money, you can say what you like about him but you just have to admire his honesty regarding this window.

    Afternoon chaps,

Long time reader but only posted once or twice before and that was years ago.

Firstly – keep fighting the good fight Ed. Been keeping track of the health updates, can’t be easy to keep up the blog but you’re doing an amazing job. Love reading the comments from everyone sending you their support, good sense of community and shows how highly everyone thinks of you sir.

I’m just posting to ask if anyone knows the best way of getting tickets for Newcastle v Liverpool? Haven’t been to a match for a while, it’s on my birthday, my best mate’s a Liverpool fan and of course the Rafa link all make it the one match I’d love to see this season. I’m not a member and I’ve got no points. Happy to get membership for it but as I understand it, it works on a point system so even with membership I won’t be able to get a ticket. Beyond that, I assume that a game like this will sell out straight away so won’t make it to general sale. I’m just curious if there a way of paying a member / ST holder to get a few tickets for me? Or is that a big no-no and against member / ST policy? Couple of pre-game pints in it for anyone that might be kind enough to help out.

If its possible for me to buy tickets myself then any advice on that would be helpful. Apologies in advance for not knowing the ticket system better. Hopefully the blog hive mind can help a mag stranded down south out! Cheers!

    Izzy,
The best way is to become a member as they will most definitely go on members only. Secondly there’s a Facebook page called nufc face value tickets, you could try there.

getting one ticket for that game will be hard enough but getting a few will be next to impossible

Ta Jail, but what about the membership points system? Do I need prior purchases to get access? Would it almost be worth buying a ticket for Swansea which I read is 0 points just to get a few points accrued? Or will Liverpool tickets almost definitely be available to all members regardless of points? Will check out that page for sure!

I see – so points only matter for Away games. Hibbit – how does one get a few? Do season ticket holders have first dibs before tickets go down to members? Do I just have to be first in line to get a few or do they restrict them to 1?

Jayphoto and Barkel from earlier – good to know that Mrs. Gayle is from Forfar as she’ll regard Newcastle as the south and wouldn’t want go any further below this longitude

Agree that Gayle isn’t looking to go anywhere that’s journos again taking the michael – lad just needs his fitness back and a few nights good sleep with Gayle Jnr’s arrrival

The link with Kjartansson is good and clearly has been influenced by what Ashley’s seen on TV and he’s realised that Rafa ” should have gone to Iceland”

    Izzy,
Join as a member and then keep a close eye on Nufc.com or the official site .co.uk for when they go on sale, it will be first come first served and you might get two together but I doubt in the Gallowgate.

Just a very minor point Re. Anita, he’s in the outgoing box as going to Villa but actually is now a Leeds player and doing very well playing left mid field. Just to show how versatile he is and Rafa ought to be a bit annoyed about letting him go. Still water under the bridge now!!

Not sure we need another Striker with both Mitro and Joselu showing they can score, don’t know what’s happening with Gayle, does he have injury problems, is he up to the EPL or is there a confidence issue.

If there is an issue I would be more than happy to see Toney, Longstaffe or Armstrong coming back as 3rd strikers.

Don’t know why we aren’t having a closer look at USA players, Geovinca is one that springs to mind.

I think we definitely need another striker in. We scored 3 against the worst side in the league right now and we scored 0 goals in the previous 2 matches. We have a long way to go to be a decent attacking side.

The U.S. won’t listen or change to prevent more climate change. They are going to continue to be lashed by huge hurricanes which are going in intensity because of warming waters. Katrina, Sandy and now Harvey. Get back into the climate accord and help convert away from fossil fuels or continue to pay the price. My thoughts go to those in Texas but this is only going to get worse.

G2 – Not wanting to get into politics but your statement isn’t entirely true. Trump has stated that the US would leave the climate accord but that’s not until November 2020. Many American state governors have disagreed and vowed to keep making difference to prevent climate change
