Siem de Jong Moves Back To Ajax – 14th Player To Move Out This Summer

Siem de Jong has finally left Newcastle and returned to his former club after just over three years on Tyneside since we signed him for £6M in the summer of 2014.

When Siem joined, he had been captain of Ajax who had won four Dutch titles on the trot, so he was on a high, but once he arrived on Tyneside, nothing went right for him.

He kept picking up injuries and could never nail down a first team starting spot at Newcastle, and it seems that Ajax were pleased to sign him back this summer.

It will also be a good move for Siem who can now concentrate on getting his career back on track.

Siem had 22 appearances for Newcastle with two goals over three seasons on Tyneside, so he was certainly not very productive, but now his wages are off the wage bill at Newcastle.

Siem de Jong – moved permanently back to Ajax

De Jong joins striker Emmanuel Riviere in leaving the club recently as Riviere – who also joined three years ago and played only 31 times with 3 goals finally moved to French club, Metz.

De Jong was on loan at PSV Eindhoven, but at the end of the season, the Dutch club did not want to sign Siem permanently.

Siem is said to have cost £4M, so we got all but £2M back on our investment.

Here are the ins and outs in this summer transfer window with Siem being the 14th player to leave the club permanently or on loan this season.

surprised none of the championship hopefuls have come in for Hanley as didn’t think his wages were particularly high? He was one of the most consistent defenders in the league for 2-3 seasons before we signed him and is supposedly of good leadership and character…Seems taylor made for a Birmingham city or Derby county…
Saw some article say Jack Colback was on 70k a week… thought it was closer to 55k a week but remember he was a free transfer so his wages were inflated based on that..can’t see anyone matching that based on his form over the last 2 seasons

So Riviere gone… De Jong gone..Wonder who will be next? They need Krul off the books, think him and colback are the 2 massive earners on the transfer list..
Interesting to see if Saivet stays, no club that could afford him wants him. Personally still think theres a player there at least for the squad, guy was captain at Bordeaux and well loved but then his attitude got slated at st ettienne so no idea what his character is

How about Lucas Alario as an option for striker. Seems quite prolific in Argentina and probably available for the same price you could sell Mitrovic or Gayle for.

I hope we get tagliafico for lb.

Be good to get the following out before Wednesday to give Rafa some time to get players in:
    Krul
    Darlow
    Hanley
    Colback
    Saviet
    Haidara
    Diame

    Sign
A top keeper and keep woodman as 3rd
    Gibbs or Argentine
    Batashuyai on loan
    Top number 10

Still hoping Perez is on his way in. If he can’t go to Spain, surely we a re the next Spanishest choice!
If we’re looking to offload Gayle for some cash, surely a similar style striker is on the horizon.

    Shoulders,
I think so, read the other day (maybe on here) that we were now favourites to sign him. Diego forlan to Deportivo was a rumour I saw on twitter, More out of hope than any knowledge.

Who exactly is going to pay 20M pounds for Gayle? I don’t believe this has legs at all. He’s not worth it because of his various physical and mental problems and everyone knows it. We may sell him but not for 20M. He would be a brilliant Champo striker if they can keep him fit. A few Champo teams could afford him but not at 20M. If you get 12-14M snatch their hand off. Then get somebody with more physical endurance in quickly at striker.

Personally I think we should focus on what’s important and that is to move on those who won’t be registered, not every player who we might not think are good enough…

…we only have three days people ?

Krul, Hairdryer, Colback it seems now, Lazaar and Hanley needs to be shifted. Everyone else needs to wait unless an offer we can’t refuse comes in!

Kind of a shame about Sting. Lad was very unlucky with injuries, and definitely had the quality to make an impact.

Truthfully, I’d sooner have kept Sting, and sold Diame instead. Injury troubles or not, he has the birth right of not being Diame, and that has to count for something.

Good comments. From De Jong? Or Rivi? I’m thinking De Jong. Rivi is still wondering what hit him. Had a chance to perform and failed miserably. Better than Doumbia though. Or Xisco. Or a few others I could mention but won’t.

Cheers, he is just the type of forward we need, not saying that the others aren’t up to it, he would really compliment what we have got, great pace.

Push Charnley and those other twits Barnes and the other one oot of the way Rafa or nothing will get done. They’re just stalling and pretending to be busy. They actually don’t want to spend anything more than what we bring in for De Jong, Colback, Krul, Hanley, and Lazaar. So if we get say 12-15M total including the 4M for De Jong (and that’s a stretch) and if we got 12M for Gayle possibly we could still get a decent striker and AMF in without poor Ashley having to go begging in the streets again.

    On Gayle.
The going rate for a player who can score 20 goals in the Championship is 15 million.
    I’d take that.
    It’s about formations and tactics.
Strikers are a dying breed. Teams used to play 2 now its only 1 and you have to have certain qualities to be that 1.
Then spend 25-30 mill on Batshuayi.

We’re going to have to make some very quick deals now and Charnley usually isn’t up to it. Too slow and gets bogged down in the details. Telling Rafa to stop complaining and get on with it is all well and good Ashley but how often have you pretended to be willing to spend money and then reneged on it? Remember “the helicopter is fuelled and ready” Mike is still at the helm.

I would love 15M for Gayle posada as long as Rafa gets to spend it and Charnley doesn’t stall and bluff his way to the end of the window without doing anything with the cash.

Im actually gutted about de jong leaving. We really could do with a player like him. I know hes not impressed while he was here. But it always felt to me like we were missing a proper number 10. We’ve been using diame and perez. The two of them couldn’t dream of having de jongs creativity.

Mags @ 38 i’d guess about 50k-60k/wk each so 100k-120k off the weekly salary obligation. That could be enough to get a Lucas Perez in (if he doesn’t go back to Spain) or a jovetic (doesn’t go to monaco) or similar player in that class… Or bring back Ba! ( if two years younger ?)
