Newcastle After New Goalkeeper Target – Exchange Deal Possible

Newcastle were interested in 26-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet back in 2013, but nothing came of that interest.

But now there is news that Newcastle are looking to swap Tim Krul for Zoet, who plays for PSV Eindhoven.

The report is in Fox Sports, and they report that both Benfica and Crystal Palace are also interested in signing the PSV goalkeeper.

Tim had loan spells with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar last season and is now surprisingly surplus to requirements at Newcastle and has been told he has no future at the club he joined way back in the summer of 2005.

Newcastle scouts were reported watching PSV beat Roda JC 2-0 last night, with Zoet keeping a clean sheet in that game.

But time is starting to run out with less than three full days left in the window, so if the deal is going to take place, it will have to be done quickly.

26-year-old PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet

The 6ft 3 ins goalkeeper has been the number one at PSV since 2013, and he’s played over 160 times for the Eindhoven club.

He has 9 caps for the Netherlands and looks a decent enough goalkeeper.

And it looks like it will be a swap between Krul and Zoet with money possibly going to PSV for the transfer.

Tim Krul has played 185 times for Newcastle and 6 times for the Netherlands.

What do you think?

I would think unless zoet is near the end of his contract there will be some money involved as well from our side.

    Jib,
Firstly that is a matter of opinion on whether Atsu is twice the player Townsend is and nothing to do with a higher level of “footy” knowledge. And secondly the boost to the squad of adding a player of his quality coupled with taking away all the negativity that surrounded January and the managers future would imo seen a much better points return in the second half of the season.

In fact Jiblets considering our form in the first half of the season you can safely say that by being the only club to not strengthen in January it nearly cost us the title and it could be argued that it stopped us from going down in history as record points holders. We’d have also had a player being apparently eyed for 27M now.

Good day Gentle folk, long time lurker, first time poster.
I could be wrong in this, but, was there not a confidentiality clause inserted by NUFC some years ago? Could be BS, but I can’t remember much warning of many signings we have made, lots of false alarms, but not many accurate predictions.
Here’s to a safe season back, 40 points by April will do me.
