Newcastle Agree Fee With Norwich For Grant Hanley – Medical Tomorrow

It looks like Grant Hanley will be the next player to leave Newcastle as the club have agreed a fee with Norwich for the former Blackburn Rovers captain.

We signed Grant for about £5.5M last summer so hopefully, we will be able to recoup most of that in this deal.

And there should be time for Rafa and Lee Charnley to bring a player or two in before Thursday night, now that Grant will be moved out.

Grant Hanley – fee agreed with Norwich City

Here’s what Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has just tweeted.

Some reports are saying that Grant is actually undergoing his medical today so the deal could be announced early tomorrow if that’s the case.

It also looks like Newcastle are willing to sell Dwight Gayle to Leeds United for £18M,  but only if we can get a suitable replacement in by Thursday night.

If the Hanley deal goes through it brings down our total net spend to around £13M, so surely there is money in the coffers to bring in some new players before Thursday night?

What do you think?

Amazing how many rafa got in and out the door last summer and it seems he’s having a right good go this time round too.

Ah well, I got that one wrong, I thought with the five year deal he’d be our new Willo, sitting quietly on the bench waiting for a chance. The way Mbemba seemed out of favour I thought it would be him on his way. That’s good progress that mind, four very capable CB’s with only room for two, they’ll all be seriously upping their game.

If it was my money I wouldn’t be happy with colback earning so much and not playing, but I would have been more sensible in the first place and not paid him that much weekly

If Rafa sells Gayle I wonder who he jas in mind to replace him as it obviously has to br an upgrade on our number 9. Interesting times, it may well be Jovetic.

I’d take Origi as Gayle replacement in a heartbeat. Not that clinical but can score, has pace and always mobile upfront and still young i think.Considering not much options available, will be decent addition. If not,i will go for Loic Remy. And oh,
Krul for Zoet will be another cracking deal if goes through.

I think Liverpool will want silly money for origi, especially in this market so cant see that happening unless its a loan like.

Good luck to Hanley. He was bought to fill a role. We had better. We won the league. He isn’t PL standard. Move him on.

For Mitrovic – I have my black n white glasses on for this one. When he challenged Lanzini he came across him from the side and he didn’t mind making contact and he was watching the ball when the contact happened. I do think Mitro was trying to get his shoulder into Lanzini and of course knew where Lanzini was. Also, Lanzini is only 5’6″ at best and Mitro is 6’2″. This played a part in how Mitro caught him but I think he pushed out with his arm as he made contact as opposed to throwing a deliberate elbow. Anyway, Mitro has his reputation. The FA already know this and more than likely they will suspend him. But hopefully there is enough gray area in this that the 3 man panel will not be unanimous.

    angry amn misses bus:
Ref obviously didn’t see the karate kick incident (see picture) properly. So obviously should be reviewed under new legislation. But no, it’s everyones favourite underdog, hudders, so nothing doing; no fuss made by those inaba pundits (thanks expatmag) on tv. This trial by tv really winds me up, as we never seem to benifit from it:
    -huddersfield stamping
    -huddersfield karate kick
-spurs Harry ‘such a nice young man’ Kane; feet off the ground, from behind scissor challenge, causing exactly the kind of injury these challenges were outlawed to prevent.
    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Good. Don’t know how he was a captain at Blackburn. Looks perpetually unfit so obviously doesn’t lead by example, further supported by the numerous anecdotal reports of him always been out on the lash whilst at NUFC. Must have been captain by virtue of some archaic ‘man’s man’ code.

If we do sell Hanley fair play to the lad. I doubt he will get the same wages so he obviously wants to play football.

Colback won’t budge from what I have been told so a loan with us helping to keep him at his current wage is all we can hope for.

Hail, never saw anything in him myself. Shorter, fatter, slower version of Williamson, but without the positional awareness. Hope he doesn’t get injured with Scotland; quick Mikey, helicopter him over to Delia’s.

Tynemouth – the gig was at the Odeon not the city hall
People behind me booed and shouted Judas (and were not Geordies by the way I heard them talking in Southern accents in the foyer)
In this pic his perm has dropped out a bit however the night I saw him it was really quite tight and newly done.
You have read about it and seen Scorsese’ movie with footage taken from several different tours – I was there and it made a big impression on me.

Have to say, i can’t imediately condemn mitro on what I have seen. Intent is ambiguous at best. Clumsy, maybe. I know I’ll be wearing BW glasses, but normally I like to be honest with myself if it’s a bad one, like shelveys idiot stamp. This doesn’t seem in the same league as that.

There was a fantastic film about Dylan a few years ago called ‘I’m Not There’, in which he was played by half a dozen different actors. Cate Blanchett did by far the best turn, as that Judas-era Bob.

The title would do for the autobiographies of about half our first team squad…

Players out are priority for Barnes and therefore Charnley. So despite having had weeks to tee signings up, they’ll not be able to get them over the **** (guess the missing word)

Ashleysmate @ 17 Don’t disagree at all. Whether or not he deserves red is one thing, but he put himself in the position to be reviewed and possibly charged.

Lesh @ 24 that word gives me fits. But here’s to Ashley – jumping over pounds to save pennies. He’ll risk PL status to save a few quid and prove his point to the club. Zero long term vision at all. Thing is he’ll probably enjoy the gambler’s rush about this bet – how little can he spend but still keep us in the PL. Us being relegated is just a lost bet to him.

Fulham and Boro apparently looking at Jota. If he is a target, get a move on, Brentford will need time to find their own replacement if they sell.

‘Jota’s importance at Griffin Park can’t be understated.

In the second half of last season, from January 1 onwards, only Chris Wood scored more goals than the former Celta Vigo man. And only Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle had a better strike rate over the course of the entire season.’

Not bad, not bad at all.

    Jovetic to Monaco….

Thanks Ashley. Because he is a penny pincher…we lost a great target. Now we are left for scraps. I am sure Gayle will be offloaded….never ever rated him, and thankfully vilified as so many have rated him so highly.

Gonna route for Monaco is the french league this season will be very interesting.

All this Gayle malarkey has got me flumexed, what on earth is going on, natural goal scorers are a premium and Gayle is one of those, granted in the PL he hasn’t yet proved to be good enough but he hasn’t had the chance yet, at Palace he had no chance at all as he is a quick and mobile striker and his managers there were Pulis, Warnock and Pardew who all prefer the target man so he was never going to succeed there, but with Rafa who prefers the Gayle type and bearing in mind how he done so well last season I really am at a loss as to why we might get rid, for me the deserves a chance, and with Rafa I think he would grasp that chance as well, compare him to Cisse, the biggest difference is the caught offside amounts, Gayle has a brain and times his runs far better, so why are we getting rid, the mind boggles.

We were never going to compete with a clib like monaco, with or without penny pinching. Add to that the fact Jovetic was not keen on a return to the prem, then on this occasion it’s hard to blame Mash, no matter how much we want to.
