There is a report in the Telegraph today that Newcastle are after 22-year-old Liverpool striker Divock Origi.
Other Premier League clubs said to be interested in signing the player include Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle are still after one striker to add to the strike force of Joselu, Dwight Gayle, and Aleksandar Mitrovic before the end of the transfer window on Thursday night.
Divock Origi is reported to have been told by manager Jurgen Klopp that he can leave the Reds before the transfer deadline on Thursday as the player wants first team football.
But it seems to be on the condition that Liverpool bring in a new striker or strikers before the transfer window closes.
Newcastle will face some serious competition for the player with Tottenham Hotspur, Marseille, Inter Milan, Juventus, Sampdoria, Bayer Leverkusen, Werder Bremen, Crystal Palace, and Wolfsburg all said to be interested in signing the player.
The Belgian striker has played 71 times for the Reds with 21 goals since he signed on for £10M on a five-year deal from Lille in the summer of 2014 but was then immediately loaned back to Lille for the 2014–2015 season.
He made his debut for Liverpool in September of 2015 in a 3-1 defeat at Manchester United.
It seems that Newcastle’s best chance of signing Origi would be on a season loan with an option to buy him next summer when we have more money in the coffers.
But some of the clubs interested can afford the full fee up front for the Liverpool striker and that could put the Magpies at a disadvantage.
