After passing his medical at Norwich today, it has been announced that Grant Hanley has now left Newcastle on a permanent deal and moved to the Canaries.
Although the transfer fee has not been disclosed, we’ll assume it was near the £5.5M we paid Blackburn Rovers for him last summer – maybe £5M?
Here’s what was put up on the Newcastle website:
Defender Grant Hanley has completed a permanent move to Championship side Norwich City.
The 25-year-old center half joins the Carrow Road club having played just once for the Magpies this season, in the Carabao Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest last week.
Scotland international Hanley, who joined Newcastle from Blackburn Rovers in July 2016, made a total of 17 appearances during his 13 months at St. James’ Park, scoring once against Queens Park Rangers.
Grant Hanley – now a Norwich City player
We expect Achraf Lazaar to possibly be announced later today as having joined Serie A club Benevento on a season-long loan.
Also, Wolves have stepped in, and they are discussing a season loan deal with Jack Colback who seems very keen to join them.
That loan deal could be announced tomorrow.
That leaves Tim Krul, Sadio Haidara, and Henri Saivet still to be moved out of the players identified as surplus to requirements for the coming season.
And while we could hear something about them tomorrow, it’s doubtful all three can be moved out at this late stage in the transfer window with only just over 30 hours left.
We also need to move some players in – wonder who they could be?
Update – the Chronicle are reporting the fee was only £3.5M so if that’s true we lost £2M in one year on Grant, but we had to get him off the wage bill.
