The Northern Echo are reporting this morning that Fulham have finally submitted a bid of £15M for Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle.
That follows reports of yesterday they had already bid £18M for the striker but Chronicle reporter Lee Charnley says that no bid was received yesterday.
The news is that Newcastle are pondering how to respond to the bid, but the very least we can do is to ensure somebody else is brought in to replace Dwight if we do sell.
And maybe we can even get two strikers in – and then we would have four out-and-out strikers which would be good.
It will be interesting to see if Newcastle accept the offer because we value Dwight at £20M after paying just £10M for him last summer from Crystal Palace.
But Dwight can be critical to any Championship side seeking promotion after he hit 23 goals for Newcastle last season and has proved he can score goals in England’s second division.
The word on Dwight is that Rafa has not particularly liked his attitude this season.
Dwight Gayle – Newcastle could sell if we can get in replacement(s)
Gayle seems to have a mental problem with his hamstring injuries after so many of them in his career.
And he hardly looked ready to play in the first two games of the season when he was ineffective before being replaced.
But Dwight in the last couple of days has made it clear to Rafa that he wants to stay on Tyneside, so not sure how that will sway Rafa Benitez.
We have reportedly asked Liverpool about the possibility of taking Belgian striker Divock Origi, but we have to be low on the totem pole to attract the 22-year-old Liverpool striker with many other clubs interested.
Maybe the easiest striker deal for us to complete before tomorrow night is to sign Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Vidar Orn Kjartansson for a round £8M.
But there’s no way that Rafa will allow Dwight to leave the club without a replacement having first been signed by Newcastle.
Newcastle are run like a real football club by Rafa Benitez these days, and he doesn’t make those kinds of amateurish mistakes which we have made too many times in the past.
We’d be surprised if Dwight isn’t still with us on Friday – there just doesn’t seem to be the time to bring in a suitable replacement or replacements.
But we’ve been wrong before.
🙂

Comment #42Apparently the Perez deal is in the region of £100 grand a week wages, too high for us. With regards to Gayle I’ll give you 4 words..
Andy Carroll, groundhog day.
Gayle could be sold in the last few moments of the transfer window by Charnley with no replacement lined up leaving us with Mitro and Joselu
