There is a report in Italy from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (via the Chronicle) that Newcastle are willing to pay Sampdoria €20M for their midfielder Dennis Praet.
And the new news is that Praet would prefer a move to Newcastle over Everton because he wants to play for Rafa Benitez.
The problem is that Sampdoria are unwilling to let him go until they get a replacement in, and that seems doubtful with time running out in the window.
Dennis Praet – wants to come to Newcastle
But it is still good news because it could be possible to get Praet in during the January transfer window or even next summer.
The report is that Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo has put a block on the move, and it looks unlikely the Italian club can find a replacement with so little time left in this window.
But they will accept the €20M if they can get a replacement in.
Newcastle have been after Praet for some weeks now, and then Everton came in to try to scuttle the deal, but it seems that attempt has failed with Praet preferring a move to Newcastle.
Newcastle could well follow this up in January if no deal can be completed in the next couple of days, and it would give Sampdoria time to get a replacement through the door in January.
But there again January deals are often difficult to get completed.
Anyway, it’s good news the player is keen to join us.
What do you think?

You’d rather have this than a normal football club because at least you know what you’re getting
“More damaging than the £2m pay-out is the panel’s indictment of the Newcastle hierarchy. The hearing declared that the club had admitted to ‘repeatedly and intentionally misleading the press, public and the fans of Newcastle United’, while the evidence given by owner Mike Ashley and his fellow executives over the course of the two-week hearing was described at one point in the verdict as ‘profoundly unsatisfactory”

Comment #3Yes, he’s got the potential to be the real deal. He was at one point the second best young player with potential just under Taliesman…Not sure how you spell his name.

Comment #4Can’t see us bidding 20 million for anybody , we are strictly bargain basement this season.
On another note, am surprised Murphy hadn’t been given more time – at 10 million he represents our star signing and he can barely get a few minutes on pitch- hopefully not a duffer

I think his price tag reflects the market and especially his nationality. We could have had Townsend for the same price in January, give or take a couple of million.

I don’t think he’s a suffer at all, if his final pass improves we have a star on our hands.

Comment #8Praet’s buy out clause is at £22.8M according to some media…will Sampdoria then accept €20M?

Who knows, if our value of him doesn’t rise above €20M then we’re flogging a dead horse. Although it may well depend on how many fireside pints Mikey has had when Churners rings him while answering to Rafa.

Comment #10I was wondering why Rafa was so eager to move players on if it doesn’t enable him to sign the players he need anyway?
He’s in change of in- and outgoings but if he doesn’t get any new players why bother trying so hard to move players on? He might need some of them and he’s not paying their salaries…

Excuse the late reply. Been driving my daughter to soccer training.
Re Gayle.
I am not sure what to make of it. Although he looked off the pace and underdone in the first 2 games, I put that down to lack of pre season training.
I would be very surprised to see him sold if a significantly better permanent signing were not made.

Comment #17Lindisfarne/Jesper – Just seen on the BBC news that we aren’t far off £1=€1, so it probably doesn’t make much difference, other that MA perhaps thinking he’s getting a poorer deal

Comment #27£15m for Gayle, I’d rather keep Gayle and give him a chance at PL level, if he fails then sell in January, some Championship club with a good chance of getting promoted would view £15m+ as being a good investment.

Maybe gayle has been waiting for a London based club to show an interest…or Fulham have just been made aware that gayle is available.

Kenedy….or praet…seems funny that we are linked to praet then when that seems to be goin tits up,kenedys name is mentioned….and now vice versa.
Argie left back in.
Gayle out and possibly icelandic lad, remy,or even perez who still hasn’t moved, so could be a loan with a view to buy….so many manoeuvres to made to get players in and out….or rather out…then in.
