Argus and Brighton reporter Andy Naylor is tweeting today that Brighton & Hove Albion may be interested in signing Tim Krul today.
It’s a late move by Brighton who have been trying to sign a goalkeeper all summer.
And after Chris Hughton the Brighton manager was at Newcastle, he knows all about Tim Krul, and he knows that Tim is a good goalkeeper who has lots of Premier League experience and impressed while on loan at AZ earlier this year.
Tim is in the last year of his contract at Newcastle, so we would like a straight transfer, but Brighton could play it cute by offering a loan move, which means they could sign Tim as a free agent for nothing next summer.
So it depends on how much Newcastle want Tim’s wages off the wage bill for the coming season.
The other consideration is if Newcastle have time to bring in a replacement for Tim so he can be the third goalkeeper with up-and-coming Freddie Woodman likely to go out on loan in January.
BREAKING: Switch to goalkeeper. Reports in north-east re: Tim Krul. Can confirm possible, not definite. There are other options. #bhafc

Tim has made 185 appearances for the Newcastle first team and has been a very good player for us since signing on at Newcastle 12 years ago.
And as we are going to press, Dutch daily De Telegraaf are reporting Newcastle and Brighton are in agreement over Krul, and a loan deal could go through today.
If that’s true, it looks like we will not get any fee for Tim when his contract runs out next summer.
What do you think?
